The location is great, love the interior and the food is pretty good but service is terrible! I have had bad service here twice. It was so bad the second time that I am unable to bring myself to return. Hope they are able to improve upon this so I can return and enjoy the good food and atmosphere.

The best french cafe in all of Chicago. The waiters are unbelievably nice. The price is more casual dinner worthy and the food is absolutely fantastic. The decor is based on french cafes in the later 19th century and it is very charming.

Lovely French bistro. If you're looking for an American style eatery with large portions, this is not the place. This is as close to Europe as it gets. Crafted food, great service, very relaxing and romantic. Highly recommend this cafe.

Always my go-to in Chicago. Beautiful authentic room, excellent French bistro fare. steak frites that are so good I carry a small photo of one dinner from 2012 in my wallet. Excellent cocktails, excellent wine list, attentive unfussy service- just a proper and lovely meal and experience

We used to get here more when my Mom was still alive, as it was fairly easy to negotiate with her wheelchair, but it still is one of our much-liked neighborhood spots. They have a very classic menu, which at times even recalls the much-missed Le Perroquet. I must admit that when I've been there in the past several years I've not strayed from my favorites, which include the pate, the always-wonderful escargot, and the soup of the day (which can be remarkable). The regular-menu entrees are all traditional and executed quite well (as one would hope for at the price), and if you're into splurging, the desserts might as well be in a bistro in Paris instead of on State Street. They are also quite child-friendly, which is a plus.

On a rainy Sunday morning, I made a previous reservation at Bistro Zinc for Sunday Brunch at 10AM. Fortunately, I was punctual and chose my own table by the open glass door window with a French Bistro street view. The French appetizers More

Great French bistro with great food, service and decor. I love coming here on a rainy day and having the french onion soup. It's very good and definitely makes the rainy day more enjoyable. Overall, the Zinc offers up great food in a great space that reminds me of France.

Great experience went here with visiting family and they loved it, the service was friendly and the brunch was great. The location is great too lots of shopping around this area. Street parking is usually available close by the restaurant. Great place for lunch or brunch I highly recommend it!

Best breakfast I've had in IL so far! I literally dream about this spot still haha The ambiance is gorgeous and rustic with tons of plants! Fresh delicious bakery items. Their bacon is SERIOUS! The matcha latte was to die for. I'd take any friends or family there happily :) 100% reccomend!!

This place was amazing. Yes, dress code but on cold evenings they ask just no jogging pants or pj's and the service is amazing. You might want to reserve a seat but not required. They're kind and nice. Always set your fork and knife on the top of your plate aswell! This was fantastic and I recommend Creme Brule!!

Maybe I didn't make the right choices in food, but the Socca with fig jam and sausages was not the best choice, nor was the Bouillabaisse that I ordered as a main. Other people who enjoyed their food ordered soup of the day and the main was one of the day specials that came with mashed potatoe and a crust over vegetables. Dessert was not to the standard of a regular Parisian patisserie

Love this place and hope they stay around for quite some time. They have great French options and a fun seasonal menu. Brunch is always a great option for a less expensive but good experience. Their dinner is usually filled with older couples and the waitstaff is always friendly. I wish they had a few more of the standard French menu options because I would love to see how they handle them.

My favorite restaurant in the city. Consistently exceptional quality and presentation with impeccable service at an unbeatable price point. You won't find a better dining experience for brunch/lunch/dinner in Chicago at any price.

Very authentic looking Bistrot. Came here for date night and it works rather well. There isn't too much space but I was expecting that. They had put up hooks for coats which was smart. Looks warm and cosy thanks to the red walls. Also, this place has half bottles of wine, perfect if you are not in the mood to get completely soused.

Where to start? Except for the "ambiance", nothing to see with a French restaurant. You have the impression to order a "homemade pate" but you have an industrial "mousse"; we didn't touch it! In ordering your wine by the glass, you may think that $12/15 for a French wine by the glass may be a good wine, but not; we tried 3 different ones and didn't finished it... Even the "French" fries are industrial (frozen). At the end, you finished your dinner with a $100 bill for a bad quality food. Stay away!

This is a wonderful small french style bistro in the Gold Coast. Love the zinc bar, the mirrored walls and leather banquettes. Order the onion soup and a bibb salad for lunch and try the pate to start for dinner. We love this neighborhood jewel!

The service is excellent. Despite being a French bistro, the portions are American ie they are generous portions. The atmosphere is very cool and a really charming decoration. Prices are great. The soup and other dishes were delicious.

Not crowded at all on a Saturday around 10:30am. Very nice waitstaff, intelligentsia coffee, reasonable prices for an upscale restaurant. Omelette was amazing, friends had the french toast and quiche, both loved it.

my new favorite place to dine in the city. the food is as good as any i have eaten in paros bistros - meaning absolutely scrumptious!! the staff is friendly, informative and has just the right balance of attendance. both experiences here have been superb. have the daily potpie, for sure!

Great food, loved skate wing and rack of lamb. Excellent special Cream of parsley. Would be great to have a notch more festive atmosphere on the New Year's Eve. Desserts are excellent. Don't take them to go for someone: the packaging is very low end.

Sad to see this one time excellent neighborhood restaurant lose it swagger. The menu has changed somewhat and with it Bistrot Zinc has become indefinitely average. The quiche was overcooked, the salad leaves were wilted, the wine list was more expensive but less interesting, and the creme brulee so average. Yes, the restaurant was full on a Friday night but maybe out of habit rather than for the food. They will not see us again.

I'm so saddened to see one of my favorite French bistros shut down so I made a point of coming here yesterday afternoon for a farewell dessert. One of my most favorite dishes here has always been the French onion soup, an order of pate and of course a dessert. My mother ...now deceased used to bring me here for the occasional lunch treat so I'm sorry to see this restaurant close its doors forever. If I have time tomorrow I'll come in for one more visit!

I quite liked dining on steak here. I got luck and landed a quiet table in the corner, where I could sip pinot noir and enjoy the butter and bread that preceded my beef. (Visited April 14, 2015)

Amazing! Every bite is better than the last one. We've been here a couple of times and we will continue to eat here whenever we can. The service is excellent. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves French food.

Bistrot Zinc was a quaint, friendly place to grab brunch. The food was definitely above average and the service was fast. After my experience there, I'd be comfortable recommending it to anyone else.
