A good college preparatory and Catholic high school. It competes in the ultra competitive WCAC and falls under the Diocese of Arlington.

I graduated from O'Connell several decades ago. As a result, although I was no top of the line scholar, I entered undergraduate school with a better, clearer and more complete understanding of everything from Literature (wonderful at O'Connell) to math and science. The school helped form my life. Over the years I've taught in several universities, in graduate and undergraduate school, written seven books and hundreds of articles, and held substantial positions in industry and government. The foundation of all that was O'Connell. I owe the school my life and career. May it prosper and grow.

I am not from the area and have no prior association with O'Connell. My neighbor, who is not Catholic, highly recommended this school for my children as she had sent her youngest daughter there with great results. From my experience, this is a great value for the money. O'Connell can accomodate A students and B and C students just fine. In fact I have found that they enticed the best out of all types of students. They raised the bar on my more "average" students and encouraged them to succeed academically while keeping my high achieving student very challenged. None ever had any issues with getting into college. I teach at a local university and I am no longer shocked at the attitudes of many students coming out of local high schools and demanding grade inflation, special grade wavers, extra credit, not being prepared for classes, not knowing or caring about learning the material. O'Connell does not let their students do these things and as a result, they have been very well prepared for the college environment. I totally recommend this school. I'm sure there are many good private schools, however this has a nice balance of families from all over the area as well as all over the world with many backgrounds and income levels. The students seem to all be happy to attend there.

The students are extremely immature. I have had things thrown purposely at me in the cafeteria. Students can get away with cheating. The students are largely stuck up and amoral. I would NOT recommend this school to anyone.

Outstanding school!! Blessed to have my two daughters and two sons be educated and nurtured in mind and soul at Bishop O'Connell. Each child had their own unique experience where teachers and coaches recognized their unique potential and abilities and enhanced and empowered them.
