Awesome sweets, clean facility, excellent service and restaurant. We make the trip from VA to PA just for whoopie pies at least 2 times a year.

Nice food and beautiful place, would love to visit again
Ordered a chocolate cake with peanut butter icing. Got a cake with what my order slip said chocolate, butter cream. The gentleman did open the box slightly I peeked in an assumed it was what I ordered never looking at the slip till I got home. Once home called over and explained what happened. She said I could throw the other one out and she'd make a new one no charge. I give chocolate, butter cream cake to a friend and not to my surprise it's white icing! :( Not sure what's going on over there. Won't order anything again!
Great food and atmosphere. Staff is attentive and efficient.
Good ice-cream. Try the Shoofly Pie flavor. It's not to sweet and goes well with coffee. If you sit outside it's a bit close to the street but you can just go around the corner and hang in the back of the building where you have a nice few of fields.
Nice bakery that does things as close to homemaed as it gets they just remodle and i can say they maed it a better pkace with outdoor seating both up stairs on a balcone and on street leavel very visavle frome the road its close to other shopes as well. And a nice hotel and campegrounds are very close.
There many times and love it! Great food and quick friendly service.
Loved this place! Great food, clean and nice staff. Food was so fresh and good! We also brought their pies which were fresh and delicious. My husband loves their apple fritters! They have good iced lattes too! Will def go visit again!
Sandwich bread was dry but was replaced with delicious fresh multigrain bread.
Great bakery and breads as well as home made ice cream....yummm!
Rooms were average. Food at next door restaurant was very good. Only reason this didn't get higher rating is poor internet speed.
Bird in hand bakery best baked goods we ever tssted.
This was the worst service i have ever had at a place. It took 15 minutes for a salad and they forgot the chicken on it anyway and i was only 1 of 2 people in the whole place. Then they overcharged me for a bag of chips that had a special sticker price on it and when i saod something to the elderly lady she got mad and handed me a dollat and said are we good now. Im sorry you over charged me and did your job wrong lady. Never again.
I was at the east flea market where usually on Fridays they sell bakery goods there... the 2 ladies that were working today were very rude, they did not hand my mother her change they basically threw it on the counter and continue to make smart comments about my mother's color hair.. we were not finished picking out the donuts n she ignored my mother n closed the box n basically charged without us finishing out our order. I will not be buying anything from this place again.. very rude ppl
Perfect place for breakfast on a recent motorcycle trip through the area. Clean, friendly, great food, easy parking, amish sights.
I was about to walk into this bakery/cafe when a woman came out to post another sign on the door about mask requirements. I had a mask on, and as I was going in she said, "You know, they're not wearing masks in there." I said I didn't care if they're not wearing masks. Sure enough, at least a dozen Amish men were waiting for food, not one was wearing a mask. I was not bothered in the least, as masks don't prevent virus transmission. What I found annoying was the fact that these gutless employees won't demand the Amish wear masks, because they know they'll lose a lot of business, but they demand the rest of us wear them. On top of that, the cinnamon buns were stale. I won't be back.
Very good service. Little odd that the one old lady smelled like weed. It was a bit concerning coming from a cafe.
This bakery has a lot of sweets. One of my favorites is the ice cream sandwich. It's delicious. The prices are on the high side but that seems to be the norm in the area. The workers are nice and professional, has a smile on their faces. The store is not that crowded most of the time. If you go upstairs, you can be seated and eat a proper meal. Overall, fun place to visit to get some good treats.
The best baked goods around. Fantastic apple fritters!
just got ice cream that they make in house was excellent!! and the goats in their little petting zoo were cool little fellas
The reason I only gave one star is because I bought some apple dumplings that were just awful last week. (Oct 2019) The dough on the bottom was raw, the apple wasn't cooked and all brown in the middle and not due to any cinnamon or spices. Just looked rotten. They came two in a package and I bought two of them..Needless to say I threw them all away! I do have to say the people were friendly and it was a nice shop to look around in, but I wouldn't buy apple dumplings from there again.
Best apple fritters in the world. Cafe is amazing and the ice cream too!
Pleasant workers, a lot of cakes and ice cream to choose from.
Located in Amish country they have GREAT sandwiches, a nice assortment of ice cream, and an incredible variety of freshly prepared baked goodies! Bought several items to take home. They also have outlets at the counter seating so you can charge your phone!
We've lived in Lancaster for 2 years and have yet to visit this lovely place. Since it was the first day of spring and they offer a free scoop of ice cream I figured I would support a local establishment rather than a big national chain. It was wonderful ice cream! I also got coffee and bagels afterwards. Just across the parking lot there are a couple of adorable animals in a little fenced enclosure. Today we saw goats, a donkey, and chickens! My girls were all about that. There's also a lovely little playground with a very shallow Creek running through it. I definitely learned my lesson about not bringing Wellies on this bright sunny 45 degree day. We came home with wet feet but happy hearts. This will definitely become a place we frequent.
Good food ....very nice place....very good shoefly pie
Why oh why did they change this place we use to love it. It took 20 minutes to get a bowl of soup and an apple fritter. People behind the counter couldn t even see us there because they were standing in back of huge separation wall giggling and talking. Food not as good as it use to be a few years back when smaller. Shows you bigger is not always better.
This is a clean eatery that serves sandwiches, ice cream, bake goods, and ice cream / coffee drinks. The salads here are great and there are plenty of nice places to sit. However, the sandwiches taste average but are priced above average. The staff is very friendly here.
Great selection of pies and cakes. And you can also get ice cream if you really want to fill your guilty pleasure.
Waited 40 minutes for sandwiches. Soup was only lukewarm. Same problem last year, so we won t be returning. Food was good but not worth the wait. They also tend to run out of everything very early in the day. Please don t blame the pandemic, I said we had the same issue last year! Also, I m a nurse, and it s a medical pandemic, everyone is using it as an excuse these days.
Nice place. Good to buy food, ice cream and other good stuff. Visited there when we went to visit Lancaster a month ago.
Great place to hang out. Snacks , ice cream, coffee, all fresh.
Great ice cream! Friendly staff, great food, and a nice place to eat.
The workers here are so nice and friendly and all their home-made baked goods are delicious. This place definitely deserves 5 stars
We drive from Baltimore at least once a month to buy artisan bread (asiago cheese and Apple pecan). So delicious.
All-American bakery and cafe in the heart of Amish country. Shoo-Fly Pie and apple fritters, whoopie pies, all kinds of fancy cupcakes, angel food cakes, that kind of stuff. Some really good donuts too. And fresh local ice cream, extra good. Spotlessly clean, super friendly and helpful staff, nice location. There's even a petting zoo for the little kids.
We had soup and sandwich, was delicious...very friendly....
Yummy. We had an apple fritter. It was really good. The other pastries look delicious. The coffee was good. Great place to stop in.
Deli and bakery items looked yummy. We tried the shoefly pie and whoopie pie. Very satisfied with both.
Cute sandwich shop with delicious salads and sandwiches!
Very good. Just got ice cream.but really good. I did have a chance to the owner, Jim Smucker, haven't seen him in a couple years.
The food is great but noticed a difference since the last time we were there . We ate breakfast there 4 times 2 out of 4 the order was wrong. I ordered something s to pick up before we left . They forgot to give me one of the things I ordered and I ordered bread and asked for it to be sliced . They didn't slice the bread. So lesson learned check your order before you leave . They are very nice and friendly .
Very rude service. They put donuts with other pastries in the same bag which messes up the fosting if the donut has any. And the put nicely decorated cupcakes on its side so they get messed up. I dont know who runs the stand at Eastern Market but they need to be dealt with. Immediately.
Delicious sandwich and soup, similar style to Panera. Baked goods are sensational!
Waited forever for soup and sandwich and then I got it and it had mayo on it and was wrong. Didn't even send it back because it took to long. I think they are trying to be like panera bread but they are failing, very disconnected place it use to be way better, 2 registers for cafe and bakery just takes so long here if you are in a hurry skip it.
Smaller selection of items, but clean store and reasonable prices.
Bird in Hand Bakery its a good store 2 buy ice cream fresh donuts and much more if u got a sweet teeth this is the place 2 be so come enjoy the mini Zoo and the wonderful site
Fresh food, clean, staff very good. Breakfast sandwiches are the best.
Was not impressed at all. Known for their woopie pies. They were all frozen. And their pies are priced too high and they were small. They are ridiculous. Would not call that a cafe!
This place has amazingly creamy and delicious ice creams and donuts. I went in at almost closing time but their donut still tasted chewy and just the right amount of sweetness. Customer service was also delightful. 5\5 would go visit again next time I'm in Pennsylvania
My wife had never had shoofly pie, and this was a good opportunity to catch her up. We found a complete selection of local fare at the Bird-in-Hand Bakery, but we found the crowding distracting and the offerings sort of dear. That said, it's still worth a stop to get a feel for the Pennsylvania Dutch area.
Best Eggplant Mozzarella Panini I've ever had! Service was great as well.
Friendly people. Roomy place to eat. Plenty of things you can take home.
Really enjoyed the chicken salad sandwich. Other members of our party also enjoyed the food selection. Not really an Amish experience, however, there were Amish folks shopping and eating here, which I guess indicates the level of deliciousness.
Wonderful selection of bakery delights, friendly staff and accommodating facility.
Nice place to get baked goods. Can be a bit busy and touristy. Also the parking lot is smaller..
Signs everywhere say chicken & tuna salad in January...until you order and find out they don't sell it anymore. Veggie wrap is 2 leaves of lettuce, 3 slices of tomato, and more mayonnaise than you know what to do with. Skip it and find lunch elsewhere
Food was excellent and good value for price. All food is homeade and delicious. They also have great ice cream. My wife and I shared a banana split and it was awesome. We also didn't leave without picking up a few homemade foods to go. Bathroom's were clean and are all around experience was great. We will definitely be going back the next time we are in the area.
Great place to get a pie or any dessert, neat glider table to sit at to eat.
