About Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona is a non-profit organization that has been serving the community since 1955. The organization's mission is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. The Youth Mentoring Program is designed to help children facing adversity by providing them with a positive role model who can guide them towards a brighter future.
The program matches children between the ages of 6 and 18 with adult volunteers who serve as mentors, or "Bigs." These mentors are carefully screened and trained to ensure they are equipped to provide guidance, support, and friendship to their mentees. The program operates on the belief that every child has potential, but not every child has access to the resources they need to reach it.
Through regular meetings with their Bigs, children in the program gain confidence, develop new skills, and build positive relationships. Mentors provide guidance on everything from schoolwork to personal issues while also serving as a source of encouragement for their mentees.
The impact of this program cannot be overstated. Children who participate in mentoring programs like this one are more likely to graduate from high school, attend college or vocational training programs, have better relationships with family members and peers, avoid risky behaviors such as drug use or violence, and have higher self-esteem than those who do not participate in such programs.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona serves over 1,500 children each year through its Youth Mentoring Program. However, there is always more work that can be done. With your help as a volunteer or donor, we can continue our mission of creating life-changing mentorship opportunities for young people in our community.
Volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters is an incredibly rewarding experience for both mentors (Bigs) and mentees (Littles). As a mentor you will have an opportunity to make a significant difference in someone's life while also gaining valuable experience working with young people. You will receive training before being matched with your Little so you feel confident about how best you can support them.
Donating money or resources helps us continue our work providing quality mentorship experiences for youth facing adversity throughout central Arizona communities including Phoenix Metro Area; Maricopa County; Pinal County; Yavapai County; Gila County; Navajo Nation Reservation & Apache Reservation areas within Maricopa County boundaries
In conclusion: If you're looking for ways to give back locally while making an impact on someone's life then consider volunteering at Big Brothers Big Sisters! Whether it's through donating time or money - every little bit counts towards helping us achieve our goal: creating supportive environments where kids can thrive!
