Kafkaesque atmosphere

Kafkaesque atmosphere
Staff (librarians?) Especially impaled: glued to the bitter seats awaiting retirement. Some notable exceptions. I wish to thank Jason Morales for the help and kindness. Hold on, in there you won't have an easy life

The lady who is currently the head of the Science department is revealed to have zero professionalism, seems to want to break everyone, always walks with noisy heels, talks to her friends in high tones, she believes who knows who only because an employee. But in short, what the heck does his behavior have to do with users if he is the first not to respect the local regulation ?! Some people should be sent home. Maybe instead of the librarian she would have more luck as a crochet weaver. At least he wouldn't be in contact with other people. Really an ignoble woman. Firing her would be a gain for the facility.

Review these schedules of the library service for collection and also for delivery! It is limiting up to 13, not always and not all have the opportunity to travel in that time slot! Even for the delivery of books, it takes to get it and put it in a cart ?! Then place it in its place when you go ...

I come to the national library only for the vast assortment of volumes, and for the open and quiet spaces, air conditioning permitting, leaving aside the multiple limitations to enter, from which I admit, apart from some exceptions, they hire staff only if rude and boorish .. admit it, come on! Eeeeh, how much patience for this library, just for the volumes .. the central area or the modest outdoor vegetation to shelter from the sun and bad weather and eat quietly ...

Like many I wonder why certain inefficient structures that we pay with public money, such as certain Public Relations Offices, are not eradicated. Twice I contacted the Library office, formulating a very trivial question, without having the least answer, after a month (even copying the secretariat of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage). Obviously I will report this disservice directly to the Ministry. In order to spread the culture, it is first of all necessary to be educated and conscientiously and loyally carry out the work for which you are paid. It is time for state employees to stop feeling chaste untouchable

The regulation of the National Library is not very flexible, both for opening hours and for the number of books that can be consulted or loaned (regardless of the Covid emergency), but it is also true that the vast catalog at its disposal places these critical issues in the background. The online service works perfectly, you can find many texts, you really study which is a pleasure, in a certainly stimulating environment. Moreover, being a central institution not only for Rome, it often hosts very interesting exhibitions as well.

extremely short hours (mid-week is open only in the morning, until 13:30), you can book a book a day for consultation (only from your home, after which the online system blocks new requests), you cannot take books off the shelves
in essence it is no longer a library: it is a building with books inside, which in rare cases, without expanding too much, is allowed to browse. Impossible to study and work in such a place: a shame, but nothing surprising for those who have been forced, for many years, to attend it for study or work. It is only the logical conclusion, behind the motivation of health prevention from COVID, of a coherent path of expulsion of users, seen by the organization and by most of the staff as a nuisance
My secret hope is that the agony will last a short time and finally this Library will be closed, perhaps to put some school class in it that needs space: at present, it would certainly be more useful this way.

Incredibly limited and limiting hours, the need to book the few books available the day before (and very early in the morning, because the limit of requests is reached immediately), there were already problems of disservice in the past but in this 2020 they have exceeded every limit under the pretext of the "pandemic"

We must adapt to the strict regulation, but the catalog with more than 4 million books is a good reason to attend it. It would be useful to better instruct users when creating the card so as to avoid dissatisfaction.

I had to go to study only because there was no other place open due to holidays. Now, a national library, very important, which does NOT allow you to access with even a personal book, where you must also register because of the key with which you are forced to put everything in the lockers, I have no idea what it is for . I mean, you can't study it. You can't even take a pencil with you. You only have to go in with your clothes on. But let's say that one has to consult books for research: what does he do? Do you remember everything by heart? Can't write anything? And if he starts taking pictures, do you want to see that they sanction you? Ah, obviously no bottles.

Given my amazement - never heard of such a thing - I ask the guy amazed by how much this disposition exists, never felt in my life. He looking at me as if I were a poor ignorant who obviously does not know these things, quite annoyed by my amazement (from the series "are you saying I'm stupid ?!"), tells me "but look, it's always been like this, like since the 80s" . Ah, well, very good I must say.

I swear, never heard of such a thing. The astonishment is even greater when I discover from the comments the enormous rudeness of the staff and the very slow and complicated bureaucracy that have necrotized that place. I am only sorry for all those students and researchers who are obliged to turn to this facility as certain material exists only here

Huge potential ruined by the irrationality of the people who work there. Personnel worried about the only ever univocal and sometimes almost discriminatory application of rules on: what / how to bring / not to bring, where / how / when to consult, how to identify, where to withdraw. Employees who read novels and at the same time badly respond to users on the premise that they have too much to do, not aware of being a public service

I would give zero stars but it is not possible. The staff are old, slow and incompetent. Online services are completely ineffective. To request a loan, the intercession of the prime minister seems necessary. The "bureaucracy" of that bleak and annoying reigns supreme. Absolutely not to be attended.

New update 04-05-18

It is possible that in a library full of staff (increases visibly) who chat aloud, send messages on WhatsApp and mess around in the most disparate ways to try not to get bored while he is stealing a state salary, to consult a book that is not present on the shelves it takes more than 3 hours of waiting?

I know that basically it's my fault that I keep going back, but now it's really too much. I think I'll throw the card in the basket, so I won't be tempted anymore.

Terrible experiences at the national library. Absurd rules: you can't bring a bottle of water inside, yes the water seems to be dangerous! So while you study and train your mind you need to dehydrate yourself. Having low blood pressure I risked passing out several times. Unfortunately, if you have xerostomia, you can't go there. You can not access with material precisely because, they repeat the tiritera which is a library for consultation and not for reading. Woe to reading in the national library, you can't! You just have to consult, and you cannot read and consult at the same time. You just have to consult and not even take a single sip of water. Water is a primary good and no one, in a state of law, can forbid having a bottle of water with them. So I invite everyone to disobey, and to enter with water, a regulation to say the least inhuman. During the Christmas period, during the Easter week and in the month of August, it makes shorter hours as if it were a school and not a public office. Someone intervene!

The hours have been very short for months, to enter you must have requested a book the day before, and the request must be made early in the morning (not before 7.30, but if you are late you risk not seeing the request accepted because they accept very few). Any disservice is justified with the health emergency. I specify that I am not angry with the staff in contact with users, but the situation is very heavy for those who have to do study or research.

The staff working in the library has always been very kind to me, unfortunately you can't bring water inside to prevent it from falling on the volumes, but I would recommend putting a water dispenser with glasses somewhere, so that you should not step back from the locker room. Lately, however, the heaters have been kept at very high temperatures. For the rest, it held perfectly a place where you can study in silence and well controlled.

The library is very beautiful and has several reading rooms and an infinity of texts to be consulted or borrowed.
"ATTENTION" Keep in mind that in the Juridical and Social sciences room there are the room assistants who are not at all kind and bring their heels every time they pass through the room to remove the concentration from the study. I would say to do something for this thing. In my opinion, they do it by post.

Since you have the current covid frenzy, going to this library is pure madness. They speak of "gradual" reopening but six months after the end of confinement it is only open from Monday to Friday (working on Saturdays is notoriously harmful to health) and in the afternoon only two days a week. You can enter only if the day before you have booked a book to borrow or read, and this reservation must be made early in the morning, otherwise the maximum number of requests is reached. The procedure for leaving the bag in the cloakroom takes at least half an hour in a row. The books in the rooms remain inconsistent. The only thing that works in my opinion is the bar. I am very perplexed by noting such situations, probably not isolated in Italy, as well as the current tendency to sacrifice any value and any public service under the pretext of protecting health. I would prefer less hypocrisy on the subject of health, more space for services and more freedom in general. On the other hand, I invite those who need the library to go and take advantage of the few services provided: not going would mean giving it to those who would like a paralyzed society.

A very nice and peaceful place to study. The problem is that they do not let you enter the water and that the employees (women) wear their heels and every time they pass they take their attention away.

Over the past 4 years it seems to me there has been a gradual improvement: they have put up turnstiles with badges at the entrance, have made permanent exhibitions in the main corridor. Aesthetically it seems to me improved. The bar has been opened, then closed, finally reopened and now has a not exceptional but not disastrous management. There is a reason why you cannot introduce your own books, you cannot ask to change this rule. Download the material on digital media and bring your PC or tablet. As for the rooms, that of the state medical library is my favorite, because of the noisy room assistants; my favorite is that of linguistics, very quiet and with really personal staff, if only for you I would give 5 stars.

I met her as a child by participating and winning with my drawings (for example the one on the house of the future) in the "Macroproblemi" meetings presented at the end of the 70s by Piero Angela.
Then I was part of the research for my degree thesis in the early 90s.
Historic and professional place.
