The overall feeling of this hotel was great, the atmosphere was excellent and they have done great job keeping the prison feeling in a good way. Rooms were great and clean. Only bad thing is that hallways were kind of hard to walk because they were so narrow, because of these railings in the middle.

Hotel Katajanokka is a former prison changed to modern hotel. There are professional and friendly staff at the restaurant and reception for your needs. There are some prison cells left for show. Out of the box hotel.

This is a brilliant hotel which still looks like a prison. The rooms are great, the staff are very friendly and it is in a great location just 5 minutes from the center of Helsinki by Tram No 4, and right beside the sea too.

Nice hotel with an interesting history. Nice looking and clean rooms. Minus, mini bar was not cold in the room upon arrival. Downstairs there was an atmospheric restaurant where the food was ok but nothing amazing. Breakfast mid-level. Good location, for example. If you intend to visit the marine spa.

Nice hotel, strange experience to stay in a former prison.
It was a very special experience to stay in a hotel, which was previously a prison.
The rooms are very clean, with a modern bathroom, large TV on the wall, good beds, and a cozy breakfast room at the hotel.
Windows are very small, since these are the original windows of the prison.

Convenient location - in the center, but away from the noisy streets. Tram stop directly at the exit of the hotel. Unusual cultivated atmosphere of the former prison. Chic breakfast. The rooms correspond to the 4-star status of the hotel, no more and no less.

I stayed at the room behind me three times.

I stayed at the room behind me three times.
The shape of the window has a feature, but it was good with a bright atmosphere.
The corridor is narrow.

Looking down from the third floor you can see the atmosphere of the prison as seen in the movie.
Trace of the former cell in the back of the restaurant in the basement (right of the reception). Exit the elevator and go to the far right, where is it? There was an object and a table in which the file was hidden in the baguette. You can also see the landscape when old photos are used in some places.
The statue of Liszt Lucci is also on the ground floor.

The lady at the reception was also nice and nice!
It is far from central Helsinki, but it is convenient because the tram station is very close. I would like to stay again.

This former prison turned hotel is very much in the heart of katakanokka. It is quiet if you like that kind of hotel and the decoration inside give you a feel of being in a luxurious version of Alcatraz. The restaurant is alright, the gym is sufficient for a simple work out, nothing more unfortunately. Walking the city is more than enough exercise. It is close enough to the city so that you can explore most of the city by foot, if not a team station is just outside the hotel. We stayed in a room with its own sauna and it was a wonderful treat every evening.

Very friendly service around the clock. Absolutely worth seeing building (steeped in history and impressive) with original furnishings. I forgot clothes in the closet when I left - two days later nobody knew about them and nobody looked after them. Small advice: after departure is before arrival - every guest could come back ;-)

The idea of a former prison being a hotel is so novel that it has been turned into a tourist attraction, visited by coach tours. It offered us free tea, coffee and biscuits as it opened its tours to our coach tour. We had a tour of the galleries and some rooms. It's quite impressive and I'd certainly stay there if I were again in Helsinki, although I cannot vouch for the prices.

The elegant and red-brick building is hard to imagine. The predecessor of the hotel was preserved for prison visits. Apart from the obviously narrow and cold and humid space where the felon was located, it seems that the prisoners enjoy great human rights, as if the rooms are spacious and set Heating equipment
The bright rooms of the hotel have old-style exterior windows, comfortable beds, and a rich and fresh breakfast. Let our family have a happy mood. Start the first day of Finnish travel
The entrance of the hotel is the stop sign of tram No. 4.5. There is a small supermarket nearby. Uspenski Cathedral is within walking distance

Bell'hotel costruito in un'ex prigione. Stanza non molto grande ma accogliente, personale disponibile e colazione abbondante.
Si trova a due passi dal centro e ha la fermata del tram di fronte. Consigliato!

Nice hotel built in an ex-prison. The room wasn't very big, but cozy, the staff was nice and the breakfast was plenty.
It's near the city center and the tram stop is just in front of the hotel. Recommended!

We were there at Christmas and had booked their Christmas package with buffet in the evening and Christmas programme. The room was well equipped and quiet and the food beyond my expectations. They also had a playing room that our toddler loved. Great experience to a fair price. I recommend it

I was there basically for the restaurants and whole building was old prison and I enjoyed spending some time there was two cells kept as it was on its original shape as a prison cell.
The prison walls still there and it's very nice and you can see them around the hotel.
I didn't stay at the hotel but the reception was very nice with me and everyone from the hotel staff was very polite and very helpful.
It's really not nice experience to go there.

Very nice hotel in a suggestive location (the old city prison). Easily accessible from the city center by tram 4 or a 15-minute walk. The rooms are small but cozy. The only flaw is the bathroom doors that do not close perfectly leaving little intimacy in the most delicate moment of the day. The breakfast is really very good, one of the best I've ever tried. Of course the salty part is the predominant one but it can satisfy every palate. Too bad the sauna is only available in the morning.

Because it recovers an old prison, it makes its urban design an opportunity to install a modern and unique hotel. Good restaurant too, and very well located, close to the center with a tram at the door

It is the butique hotel that reformed the prison. This hotle located beside a tram stop of Line No.4. It is easy to go Central Helsinki and the station. Room is clean and simple. You can not open the windows in your room, because it is ex-prison building. Katajanokka is a high class residential area in Helsinki, where are calm. Visiters are seemd to be mainly from EU countries. Morning meal is almost same each day. Woman in reception is kind. If you ask in reception, you will be told the place where this hotel retain the room of prison era.

A nice hotel with very good transport links. Every 8 minutes a tram leaves in front of the hotel in the direction of the center until evening. But this cannot be heard in the hotel. If you have explored the surrounding area a little, you can get everything you need within half an hour if you only booked breakfast. I found it particularly nice that you can get a big coffee to go from breakfast in the morning. All in all the best hotel I could find in this price range.

A neat place, a special location in the premises of the former Katajanokka prison, the look of which has been utilized in the interior nicely. Friendly reception, at check-in, the history of the building was told briefly and not too intrusively for the busy person, but they will certainly be happy to tell you more comprehensively if they wish.

Old prison converted into a hotel. The cells are just right for hotel rooms and the building is solid. The vnakila-likeness has been left just rightly displayed. Restaurant services also work well.

It's a great architectural job this renovation. From prison to high quality hotel. If you want a experience into architecture and history, book at least a day.
Unfortunately I was late to meet the shrine and sauna. But everything was perfect.

Nice authentic "prison style" interior all around the hotel. Great weekend get-away. I stayed there for business for 3 days and enjoyed it very much. Friendly staff, very charming rooms, nice small lobby bar, which serves drinks till 2AM. Good restaurant downstairs - if you are going to a dinner there, I suggest to try the "Hella", which includes three dishes: seafood salads, main course (steak) and a dessert. Grab a nice red vine and order no more! ;)
