Beautiful, sleek hotel in a quiet neighborhood
Short walk to a vibrant port, and the bustle of Helsinki. Within the walls of an old prison. Staff was friendly, and they spoke fluent English. Hope to return soon.

Unique hotel which formerly served as a prison. The hotel is well thought out with its uniquely themed interior design. It s modern but making use of its original architecture. The rooms are rather small and with no view. The breakfast is great with a good choice of breads and local specialties. The location is very quiet and about a 10-15 min walk from the market place away.

We like hotel, it was amazing as on the picture as on live..but since we don't have credit card, we went there as "walk in guests". Room was available and we want to pay cash/debit card but they still ask for credit card. No deposit, but just as garanzie. So basically you can lie about your credit card saldo and get room, but since we been honest we didn't get room.
Receptionist was very kind..is actually upon management!
So if you like to stay in hotel make sure to bring credit card with you. :)

Very well located hotel, very quiet. In a former prison, this hotel is perfect for a change of scenery! The tram stops right in front. The room is comfort (junior suite) with a sauna which adds a real plus to the change of scenery.
The lobby bar is nice, its staff at your service and the gun tonic to perfection!
I highly recommend this hotel. Probably a bit expensive, but in Helsinki everything is expensive! But to get out of prison, ultimately not that expensive ;-)

Lovely hotel with some history / novelty behind it! We had a short overnight stay in Helsinki and this was a great base. I would not recommend for longer stays as wardrobe space was limited, although I will caveat we were in a "standard" room. All in all, would recommend for a weekend break.

We got a free upgrade to a suite, which was amazing. The hotel is really well done maintaining the essence of what it was but making a classy and fun place to stay. Really quiet, and excellent breakfast. Well worth the money!

The trade department meeting at "Church" was the first time I had been there. I was disappointed with the interior when there was a kp carpet everywhere, I didn't visit the "cells" at all.
The big gets the staff, it was friendly and helpful, the food gets 8/10. The 3n dish meal was somewhat disappointing, it was good, but somehow there was no 10n performance.
Easy to find, no 4 tram stopped at the gate.

Hotel in a renovated prison. The room we had was the former prison laundry and it had a sauna in the room. The attached restaurant has many good traditional dishes and the included breakfast buffet is delicious

Good location. Dog guests catered for; food cup in the room. Uncomplicated, friendly service. Excellent food in the restaurant. Cool. Large rooms. The net played well inside the thick stone walls. I can warmly recommend hotel stays to travelers who are already a little tired!

Hotel Katajanokka is located in the former Helsinki City Prison. The prison was still in operation until 2002 and was used afterwards. A large part of the prison structure was preserved. The rooms are really beautifully designed and comfortable. I haven't felt so comfortable in a hotel room for a long time. The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet even exceeded my expectations, really great and rich. Price performance was okay too. But I found it a shame that the bars in front of the windows were removed and that the cell corridor was carpeted. That dampened the prison feeling a bit.

We can fully recommend the Hotel Katajanokka.

We can fully recommend the Hotel Katajanokka.
The location is great, quiet and a 10-minute walk takes you to the market square in Helsinki.
The staff was very friendly, attentive and helpful.
We also really liked the rich breakfast.
The charm of spending the night in a former prison rounds it off perfectly.

A former prison hotel on Katajanokka Island.

A former prison hotel on Katajanokka Island.

A long time ago, it was a historic place where the President of Finland was also housed, but now it has been bought by a proper management company and it is a very nice hotel!

Some rooms have a bathtub.

On the 3rd floor and above, the aisle is narrow, so it may be a little difficult to carry a suitcase and the stairs may be rattling and scary. Lol

The restaurant is in the basement, and the private room of the prison era is left in the back.
Breakfast is a buffet with Finnish dishes such as herring pickled in mayonnaise and porridge pastries!

Tram number 4 is in front of the hotel, and tram number 5 is a 3-minute walk away, making it easy to access.

It is a short distance from Helsinki Central Station, but within walking distance of Helsinki Cathedral and Uspensky Temple.
The Allas Sea Pool, a sauna with a public pool, can be reached in about 10 minutes on foot!
The ferry terminal to Suomenlinna is just ahead.

It is very quiet and comfortable because it is far from the tourist spots, surrounded by walls, and the surrounding area is a quiet residential area. Lol

The older sisters at the front desk of the hotel are very friendly, so if you are worried about how to get to the tourist spots, if you explain it in poor English, they will teach you politely. \ (^ O ^) /

Thanks to the PC and printer that anyone can use for free, I was able to successfully print the ticket to Tallinn that I forgot to print in Japan. Lol

If you want to stay at a hotel with a changing ball, come on!

An unusual hotel in a former prison building, where the elements of the prison surroundings are preserved, but at the same time combined with an expensive stylish design. Even the rooms and the breakfast restaurant are called "camera")

Great hotel in a former jail. Great atmosphere, very nicely decorated and comfortable rooms with heavenly beds. The thick walls guarantee a good night's sleep - no noises from the neighbors.

Hotel splendidly obtained from an old prison, of which the galleries and some cells have been kept. The rooms are well furnished and comfortable. The rich breakfast offered in the basement, very particular. The staff adds to the whole extreme professionalism but with warmth rare in Northern Europe.

An original hotel in a former prison building, we always try to stay here for a day on our way. The hotel rooms are converted former prison cells, they are simple, well-designed and warm in winter. For breakfast buffet in the hotel restaurant, very friendly staff. At the end of the restaurant, there is a punishment cell in its original form, you can go to see. Near the hotel there is a tram stop to the city and not far from the port with Viking line ferries.
