Had a great first time at Bern s! Our waiter Grant was busy but he was very attentive and we appreciated that a lot. The steaks were wonderful , perfectly cooked. After dinner we went up the dessert room and that was delicious as well!! I ordered the macadamia nut sundae and it was wayyyy too much for one person, I threw away more than half of it ;(

I got a lemonade to drink and it was the best I d ever tried. It was fresh made. The French onion soup was so hot and flavorful. I got the salad with the vanilla bean vinaigrette. I have never tasted any dressing so crazy and bold like that before. I got a New York strip. It was okay. It honestly lacked seasoning. But it was cooked and prepared well. Ratatouille came on the side. It was fresh and tasted healthy. After dinner I got dessert in the dessert room. We ordered an espresso brownie. It was so rich. It wasn t my pick, but it could have gone well with a glass of milk. Our waiter was great. He was very knowledgeable on the food. He also didn t hover or talk too much. It was a great experience and I d love to go back and try something other than steak. The person I was with ordered the duck which was incredible! It was well seasoned, hot and so crispy. I think it was the star of the table. The ambiance of Berns is so dark and romantic. Not what I was expecting. It was a wonderful experience and I d love to go back.
The dessert restaurant whether an extension of an incredible meal or an adventure of its own, Bern's lives up to the reputation of service, quality and indulgence.
Thank you so much Kim for this lovely gift. This is one of my favorites and also one of the best restaurants in Tampa Bay. You need to make a reservation in advance. If you are a steak lover you have so many options. I had to order from their seafood menu since I don t eat steak. It was an amazing experience. Food was superb. Excellent service too. Pricey but worth for the experience
It's been 8 years since we've been, but the food is just as amazing as we remembered it! Perfect place for our 15 year anniversary dinner. The entire meal and dessert room are an experience, I highly recommend Bern's to anyone looking for a unique, delicious experience
After multiple tries various times of the year, we were successful. We obtained a reservation for the same week after we kept refreshing the online reservation page. At last a 5:00 slot opened for September 11. We spent hours reading reviews. Before our arrival we had a good idea of the menu.
We parked at the hotel across the street. We only waited 5 minutes in the lobby before being called. We were seated in a small dining room. The decor with the maps on the wall was boring. No big deal, we came for the food and desserts.
PROS The Delmonico steak was flavorful The onion straws were yummy The French onion soup was very good although the cheese was salty The tomatoes on the salad were juicy The vegetables were good although minimal The pineapple upside down cake was the best we ve ever eaten The vanilla and graham cracker ice cream were both very good
CONS I never heard the waiter introduce himself. Maybe the mask interfered The waiter did not explain the menu or make recommendations I had to ask the waiter what was the daily vegetable T bone needs more seasoning The waiter stood in the hall ready to deliver each course however he never checked on us The salad was skimpy. A small slice of avocado and a tiny slice of egg. Iceberg cheap lettuce The bacon bits on the potato were imitation No salt and pepper shakers on the table. We asked for salt on the cheap lettuce and baked potato Only 1 tablespoon of vegetables After eating the soup, we had to ask what were the two toasts Very expensive desserts ($12) for very small portions
OVERALL Service was just ok, nothing exceptional
UPDATE After speaking with the Dining Room Manager, Bern s has demonstrated they sincerely value customer feedback. We spoke at length and the manager was genuine with his apology. Although my review remains the same, I m looking forward to future dining experiences.
This place is an experience - that's why you go. However, if you have any type of mold allergy, stay away! It's an old building and very musty inside. The dessert room uses wine casks for 'booths' and is also very musty. The food and service is good, but if you have food restrictions it really limits your choices. They don't really go 'off the reservation' for that. The lobster was good, but lobster tends to lose its sweetness when over 1.5lbs..and that's what happened to this one. Octopus and escargot was really enjoyed by my husband and son. They also loved the tomahawk for two. Dessert wasn't the best I've had - but again, it's the experience!
Bern s Steak House is hands down one of the best places in Tampa for steak. Between the amazing wine selection to steak selection. This is the spot for date nights or business meetings.
The service is always perfect. The steak is always cooked to perfection and the overall experience is a 10/10.
I ve traveled to Tampa from LA just for the steak and I ll continue to do it for as long as I live. Thank you for the amazing service every time.
