Simply put, one of the best meals I have ever experienced. It isn't just the food that made Bern's special, it was the entire experience. (though, the food was amazing too) The service throughout the entire night was incredibly good. You have to go into a night at Bern's with the expectation of spending several hours, it is not a place to go if you plan to get a steak and be in and out in an hour. If that is your expectation, you'll be disappointed.
We started with drinks and starters. To say the wine list is impressive is a huge understatement. The beef carpaccio was very good to start us out, even though we didn't really need it, with the size of our main course that was yet to come. A 75 day aged Delmonico was on special the night we visited, I couldn't resist, it was incredible. The rest of my group ordered filets, which everyone raved over. All were cooked exactly as ordered. All of the sides that come with the steak were also great, including the french onion soup, vegetables (green beans and carrots) and onion straws.
The tour of the kitchen was interesting, but overshadowed by the wine cellar. It was incredible to see so many wines that old in the cellar, and it was only a fraction of the overall collection.
The desert room was also great. We all ordered our drinks of choice, wine, port, single malt. All were priced very reasonably, for what we were buying. (we weren't going cheap) The macadamia nut ice cream is absolutely as good as advertised, we ordered more after our first taste of it.
Overall, we were there for about 4 hours, and don't regret a minute of it. An incredible experience that I hope to replicate the next time I visit Tampa.
