My husband and I just stayed at the Belhurst to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. I wish that I had delved deeper into individual ratings before booking, rather than relying on the overall rating, since a lot of the good ratings have to do with the winery instead of accommodations.

We stayed in the Castle Chambers, specifically the Otis room. For upwards of $320+ a night, you get:
-A dark, dingy room with peeling wallpaper
-A visibly dirty window air conditioner that struggled to keep the room cool in the 90 degree heat
-Blown breakers when you plug in the iron
-A bathroom with cracked tiles, dirty grout, and a shower with what felt like no sub floor beneath the fiberglass bottom.

We often stay at historical hotels and B&B's and understand that it's a balance between modern comforts and keeping the accommodations true to their history, but all of the issues I mentioned above are simply a lack of maintenance and restoration.

I was going to let the front desk know about these issues when we checked out, but they didn't even bother to ask how our stay was so I figured it wasn't worth mentioning. I do appreciate the fact that I left something expensive in the room and they called me promptly to let me know.

As for the winery, we got a complimentary tasting with our stay which was nice, and their dry rose was really delicious. The grounds are beautiful and we had a nice time sitting on the patio with a bottle of wine. I will say that it lacks character that some of the other wineries in the area have, as the tasting room is basically just a big gift shop.

We did dine at Stonecutters and thought it was decent. Not gourmet by any means, but it was a nice easy option when we didn't feel like going anywhere for dinner. We had reservations at Edgar's for our anniversary dinner, but decided to cancel them because we read so many terrible reviews online that we didn't want to risk ruining our special dinner with a bad experience.

Overall, just an OK experience, but at the price tag of a luxury one. I would not stay here again, especially after seeing some of the other beautiful and highly rated options in the Finger Lakes region.

The service was awful
We waited for well over an hour with available tables
After we got sat and gave our order we never saw our server again.
We ordered an appetizer and waited at least 45 minutes and we asked where it was. Ten minutes later the app and our entree came out.
I had my sites on the dessert tray I saw but we were never asked if we would like dessert. It was almost time for them to close so it was a matter of trying to get us out of there
We arrived at the restaurant at 7 and we were leaving at ten
Super slow service

Very disappointed. When when I made my reservations i was told that it came with a wine tasting and a wine spicket. However that was not the case. They couldn't even provide ice. We had to go to the store to buy ice, food and liquor.
Thanks

We went there to eat. We had a private room, which was nice - and the room had cool stuff in it. But we hardly ever saw our waitress - e.g., I think my water never got refilled. Maybe they happened to be short-staffed that day? I got the prime rib. It was just ok or maybe a tad below that. But the price was reasonable. And the Belhurst salad was better and the mushroom side was delicious!

They sat us 20 minutes late, despite having a reservation. After that, service was slow, and the food was mediocre for the price. The venue is gorgeous and the wine is good, but I'd steer clear of the steakhouse.

We came for happy hour in their tavern. When we walked in and asked directions to the tavern, a worker in the hallway said "good luck." We sat outside and the view was stunning (hence the two stars). Our waitress went over the drink specials & let us know we needed to order food (with current Covid guidelines). The three of us each ordered one drink and we ordered calamari. The waitress tried to say that we needed to order more food, but we asked her to check on it & she never brought it up again. Drinks were a great size! Calamari wasn't really recognizable. It was drenched in a mayo cream sauce, cheese, peppers, & olives. It was SO tough and chewy. When our bill came, it was wrong. They overcharged us & we had to have it all redone. There were no apologies from the waitress. She seemed annoyed that we caught the error.

We booked to relax with by getting massages and using the hot tub.... The spa was completely booked (our fault for not planning ahead.) and the pool and hot tub were closed for repairs. Had we known that pre-booking we would have went elsewhere...

We needed a room for just one night and the Castle was booked so we were offered a room in the White Springs Manor which is a beautiful old home about 3 miles from Belhurst. We took the room and around midnight we were sleeping and heard a strange noise. It turned out a bat was in our room flying around. We called over to Belhurst to see if they had a room in the Castle and they did. But we had to pack our bags and drive 3 miles to get there in the middle of the night. Needless to say, we were pretty much awake and felt like we had run a mile due to the bat flying around our heads in our room. Though we appreciated management giving us a new room we weren't compensated or reimbursed for our troubles. The next morning when we checked out the manager made light of the whole subject telling us there was another couple who stayed there and they had 2 bats in their room!

UPDATE: Edgar s at Belhurst is no longer serving brunch every weekend. I am very bummed to give this update as Sunday brunch is one of the remaining parts of a classic tasteful society.

Great place for Sunday brunch. Mimosas and Bloody Maries all you want. A chocolate fountain with fresh cut fruit and whole strawberries. Enjoy the omelette station, I always do there.

My family and I put our name down for two tables of 6. The hostess said it would be around 30-45 minutes. We all spent over 100 dollars in drinks and sat down outside to wait for a table. An hour and a half later, we checked to see what our status was with the table and they then stated that they could sit ya now but it would be another hour for food because they over sat people who were behind us on the list! The manager said I don t see what the problem is and was not apologetic at all. Needless to say, we did not get served for dinner and had to go elsewhere.

Great time with great people! Staff was accommodating and guests were a lot of fun. Stayed in Billiards room and was very comfortable. Friends in Butler room were constantly bothered by loud kitchen directly below and deliveries early in the am. Dinner was great. Breakfast was only low point for us. Not included buffet left a lot to be desired, especially at such a higher level location. Didn't mind having to pay for breakfast, however we did expect made to order with a much better selection.

Belhurst Castle is all about relaxing, and a different experience from everyday travel. Belhurst Castle isn't the place to stop in the middle of a trip, it's a "destination". If you want a motel, stay at the Hampton Inn in Geneva. If you want quiet Victorian charm in a beautiful setting, and a nice dinner by the lake, Belhurst Castle is just the place. The rooms in the original castle are all unique, and a bit quirky. That's part of their charm. The bamboo bed in the Bamboo Room provided one of the best night's sleep I've had in years. The food at Edgar's was very good. The regular menu prices are a bit steep, but the $25 prix fixe dinner was excellent and an outstanding value. If you want Internet, you shouldn't be visiting Belhurst Castle. At Belhurst you should be walking by the lake, enjoying the view and the charm of the place.

It was a really pretty place. The view of the lake is gorgeous, the bathroom had toiletries available. The bugs were horrible in the evening, enough to force you inside at dusk. Our waiter was excellent, she was very accommodating with all our dietary and allergy needs.

The Belhurst Castle is a beautiful sight, sprawled across lush green lawns and over-looking the clear, blue waters of Seneca Lake. With room rates in the $300 to $400 per night range, you would expect a stay at the Belhurst Castle to be as glorious as your surroundings. Unfortunately, you would be wrong.

We booked the Clay Room for an overnight stay after a wedding reception. The room was in SERIOUS need of repairs and improvements. Our key would not work in the door. It took a castle employee fiddling with it for about 10 minutes to finally loosen up the mechanism and get it to work. A section of molding in the doorframe by the doorknob was missing with an exposed nail jutting out. The fan in the bathroom was so clogged with dust it barely worked. The drain in the bathroom sink was also clogged. By the time you got done washing your hands, the sink was half filled with water.

We were not alone in our dissatisfaction. At the following morning s wedding brunch, others expressed similar complaints. The worst experience of all was this upon returning to their room after the reception, one couple could not get into their room at all. Their key would not work and castle employees could not get the door open either. All of their luggage and personal belongings were in that room and they could not get to them. Management, who seemed to have little concern for their plight, put them up, sans luggage, in the cheapest motel available down the street. Completely unacceptable.

If you are looking for a high-class place with caring staff and excellent service, the Belhurst Castle is NOT it. Do not waste your money here.

We stayed at in the Lewis room in the hotel off site. The room was incredible, the building and grounds were beautiful, the castle is just afew mins away, we had dinner in the castle last night and was given free desert and chocolate covered strawberries for our honey moon! There is also a bunch of winery s close to the building we stayed at, and afew minute drive to downtown. We loved it here so much we would like to make it a yearly trip!

We ve been here a handful of times and continue to come back. We love the outdoor lakeside view and many benches to sit and enjoy it. The tasting room is open late compared to most of the other wineries in the area so that s fab. Great deal on a wine + cheese flight ($10) with local cheeses. Was super shocked to pay $30 for a 4 pack of hard cider (prices NOT listed openly) but it s extremely tasty so we will be cherishing it. We ve never stayed overnight so I cannot speak to that aspect, but it s a great place to stop while in Geneva.

It was a very nice venue that was great for a wedding I attended. The bacon chicken was fantastic but the potatoes could've been better. The green beans tasted like green beans! The service was great as well.

Great Hotel. Belhurst castle is a historic property on the shore of Seneca lake. It has long been known for its great brunches and as a place for wedding receptions (I have Neenah to several there). Over the past few years they have added new hotel buildings and a winery. My wife and tried a weekday getaway package in January and stayed in the new part. Great room. Great view. We did a wine tasting and had dinner at Edgar's. All without having to go outside. I highly recommend it.

Great place! Beautiful, room was nice with fireplace and got a great price online too! We went in Feb and snowed that weekend, made getting around not great, but very pretty to look out window over the lake. Would go back again! Staff nice, food in resturants was good a bit pricey but for get away weekend. it was perfect!

Unbelievably disappointed with the wine tasting. The wine and cheese wasn t bad but the service was terrible. Felt rushed the whole time, at one point my glass was filled before I had finished with the previous wine.

We were there for a Thanksgiving Buffet. When I was last there several years ago, the food was very good. This meal was completely disappointing. The turkey that was carved for us was a turkey role, not a whole turkey and included no dark meat. There was no cranberry relish or sauce. Instead, they had a gravy with cranberry and orange juice, along with another gravy.. When we picked up our plates to get our food, the plates were ice cold. They also served top round that was carved for each person along with a salmon dish and a pork dish which I don't eat. But my friends said that it was dried out. The pumpkin pie was cold, not room temperature and the dried out sides of the pie, suggested it was cut the night before. The side dishes were mediocre. The first course was the only thing I enjoyed. That was a kaje and beet salad with goat cheese and a raspberry vinaigrette. The stuffing was mushy bread with bland flavor. The service was supposed to pay as well. I had to clear my own dirty plate and had to ask for coffee, even though he brought coffee to someone sitting right across the table from me. If you're considering eating out for Thanksgiving or any time, I recommend you look elsewhere.

We were beyond thrilled with all aspects of the Belhurst. From an amazing, indescribable venue, to the details taken to ensure our guests and wedding party were comfortable, they went above and beyond. We had a blizzard during our wedding, yet all our guests were warm and comfortable. The maintenance team worked through the night to ensure all our guests could get on the road in the morning and the hotel staff, automatically extended everyone s rooms incase they needed to stay. Carmen and her staff exceeded our expectations handling everything so we could ENJOY our wedding! Overall, most incredible wedding venue we could ask for!

Have been vacationing here since 2003. Liked it so much we got married here almost 9 years later. Great relaxing vacation. I have and will return every year until I can't physically get there anymore.

My husband and I stayed here for a little over night get away sweethearts evening. First we did the wine tasting flight, the lady assisting us was so knowledgeable on the wine and outstanding customer service. Next, we dined in the main restaurant and the food was outstanding! The drinks were perfectly delicious and the waitstaff was timely, knowledgeable and extremely friendly. In the morning we went and did the couples massage. The masseuses were professional, friendly and we both felt refreshed after to take to lunch at the bar/lounge to enjoy the view of the lake. The lunch was delicious and I would highly recommend the bloody mary. Again, the waitstaff was perfectly timed, friendly and professional. I would recommend Belhurst Castle to anyone and cannot wait to go back. Thank you for such a perfect get away with my sweetheart.

We stopped at Belhurst as a part of a wine tour we had put together. It was a nice place to stop, but definitely had more of an event and dinner space than a winery feel. I bought a couple gifts, but felt that the shop staff was not as attentive as I would have liked.

The rooms were decorated appropriately but they were not updated, and not very clean. For the price paid it was very disappointing, will not stay there again. The grounds we're nice and the food at the pub was good, but over all very disappointed.

Food is equal to what you would find at APPB or any other place that microwaves your dinner. Not a kid friendly, family-oriented hotel. We stayed for 2 nights & there was 1 nice black woman in the gift shop. Even the manager has no people or management skills. If you want to rate yourself as a 4 star place of destination maybe take on a Sbux model for customer service. Poor.

Stonecutters bar provided a nice comfortable atmosphere, but the food was suboptimal. Steak salad was greasy and unappetizing. At least the bartenders figured out how to make a proper hot toddy

Ate at Edgar's and was VERY disappointed!! Great menu but the Prime Rib was horrible and our waitress, Kerri was RUDE when we shared that we enjoyed the Delmonico and the scallops but thought the prime rib was blan with no taste. We were hoping she would share with the mangers/chefs but she took it as a personal reflection of her service. Even after we told her it was no reflection of her service she did not lighten up and took it very personal. The price was not worth the meal!
