$Horrible lib.. Bay shore high school teachers have two big study rooms from 9:00am to 3:30pm which doesnt allow other people to use the rooms. I pay a bunch of taxes each year. And i can't use the study room! I will be making a huge complaint about this. Teachers don't pay taxes and dont live in bay shore why should they be allowed to hold up the study rooms? Staff are horrible amd rude!!!
Maybe because i am a African American educated teacher they act this way to me!!! This place has some discrimination going on! I must contact town supervisor.
Beautiful library with excellent public use desktop and laptop computers; color and black white printers. Reference librarians are very professional.
Extensive cookbook selection. Also great selection of places to eat along main street Bay Shore.
Very pretty almost elegant library. I take my grandchildren there on occasion. There are some nice features in the children's section but some obvious flaws. One has to notice the chiders books with expensive stuffed animals behind glass doors. This is screaming don't touch. The book is unread, the toys untouched. And my almost walking grandson is trying to stand up and banging glass doors. Of course I rescued him. There is also a play rug that is completely shredded in a large area most likely from a vacuum cleaner. I have seen little ones getting tangled and tripping on the threads. Throw out this rug. Two very glaring safety hazards. Lovely fish tank, like the bagged puzzles. Very small selection of board books. And not much for kids to do in the play area compared to other children's sections. in libraries on Long Island.
Most libraries have pretty much in common as content goes but this library stands out to me cause the way it's laid out and how comfortable you while you're here.
The Information Technology (IT) man upstairs invades people's privacy wrongly when they are using the computer and takes that information and uses it for purpose that are unethical and probably illegal. Saw it with my own eyes and have the proof too. How awful. I am filing a complaint.
Continuing harassment from certain staff at the Bay Shore-Brightwaters Public Library, mainly from the women at the circulation desk and some male staff upstairs. They like to harass certain patrons for no apparent reason. Discrimination?
Most women librarians upstairs are very nice. I wish I could say that about the rest of the staff but I can't. I have kept my own documentation of all of this and I am in the process of filing a complaint with the NY STATE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION. Shouldn't have to be treated this way at a library or anywhere. What a shame how adults treat nice human beings. Honestly I have never seen anything so unprofessional ANYWHERE.
The librarians are super nice and helpful. They always have a smile on their face when you go up to them. The library is clean and beautiful. Love coming to this library
I LOVE! this library! Because of my profession, I have the need to visit libraries all over NYS and believe me! when I tell you that, this one, is one of the best experience! Staff is always cordial, professional, knowledgeable and eager to help! Mostly, Ideal with the second floor staff and the service they provide is almost impeccable! Every single time I need their service, they are prompt to help with smile on their faces. I observe this behavior when they take care of other patron as well. Library is peaceful and resourceful!
It's 80+ degrees AT LEAST at all times the main floor where the portable AC's/fans are it's maybe 80-85 the upper stack is easily 90-95 and the reference area i would be surprised if it was under 100 degrees. It's borderline inhumane that the poor library staff are stuck in there for 8 hours a day and its ridiculous and dangerous for patrons also. But i doubt the board and the director care i barely ever see them in the library, guess it's easy to be open when it's that hot when the people running the library are sitting home in the nice AC. It should have been closed multiple days due to heat warnings and humidity but they won't be happy until either a worker or a patron dies of heatstroke.
Sincerely,
A VERY pissed of member of the community.
As a kindergarten teacher, I use mostly the children's section. Personnel there is very welcoming and helpful. Regarding the front desk, I have had experiences that vary from great to unpleasant. Could it be some kind of discrimination? I am not sure. I rather want to believe that it is more a personality issue. Certain people are not equipped to deal with others in a cordial manner. In terms of the great children's programs, I wish I could comment, but no matter how early I try to enroll my child they are always 'already booked'. I am not sure if some people has preference or I am just very unlucky that way.
The library provides favorable services with an experienced and conscious staff as of notary and sponsored events. The building has nice features, the window view on the top floor is attractive. You are unlikely to locate study spots in every corner. One factor might be the uneven noise levels.
This library is beautiful and has a lot of different study areas. There's a lobby where you can eat and buy snacks/drinks. There are private study rooms, larger quiet areas, and a small conference room. The library has an extensive children's section and offers a lot of programs, especially during the summer. It's open 9:30am-9pm M-Thursday, with restricted hours for the weekend.
Sparkling clean, public, quite and everyone welcomed.
Peaceful, resourceful, knowledgeable and competent adult staff desirous of being helpful all in a clean, well maintained and elegant space.
