Battle Ground Golf Course Review

I went and played this course for the first time 05/03/17 and I had a blast and loved it. Fairways where in great shape although very hard so when you hit a good shot you're going to get a lot of roll afterwards. Green where in good shape, it took a couple of holes to get them down because they were pretty fast. Got a great deal on the round plus lunch and a beer. I drove from Katy to play this course (about 45-60 min drive) and I would drive out there again to play. The pace of play was great when we went. It was on a weds and we NEVER had to wait on anyone in front of us. A single caught up to us and we let him through and that was about it. I don't know what its like on the weekends

I m giving the course a two stars only because of the hurricane. Tee box was hard and void of grass. Fairways was also void of grass. I suggest goggles for eye protection. Greens in horrible shape, ball marks not repaired and lack of grass makes for a bumpy quick putt. (You may putt around sand bunkers on the greens as well) Hurricane washed out the bunkers so just pull your ball out.

I should have known something was up when I was overcharged for the round and compensated with a sleeve of Pinnacle rocks

The starter was funny though. He told us 90 degree on that hard azz dry course.

Wonderful banquet facilities very beautiful setting plenty of fresh flowers cooties over-the-top have not got off the course yet but it looks very interesting and I can't wait for the time to come that I can play it

I played this course on a Saturday morning with my son-in-law as a two-some. I was pretty happy with the pace of play. We played the front nine in just slightly over two hours with some waiting, but I don't consider it an inordinate wait considering we played as a two-some.

The course is relatively ordinary, a typical older style layout somewhat open with water frequently in play and wooded areas that force you to play the course honestly. We played from the blue tees, which can be a bit short, on a couple of par fives we backed up to the gold tees which worked out pretty well. My game is not well suited to over 6300 from the gold tees. One complaint: Would it kill them to take a range finder out on the course and mark some sprinkler heads with yardage out in the fairway and on the tee boxes? Finding yardage in this day and age shouldn't be so hard.

Greens were in pretty rough shape (it looks like they had aerated recently) and groundskeepers didn't seem to care. There were a number of pin placements that seemed to be set in some pretty rough spots, even though there were some other spots that would have made for a smoother putting surface near the hole.

Tee boxes were pretty hard. I had trouble getting my tee into the ground on a number of holes. It didn't look like they picked up too many broken tees, so duffers who are short handed in the tee area will have no problem picking up stubs along the way. Containers for collecting broken tees would be helpful.

The cart girl was friendly and accommodating. The burgers were great and bar staff at the 19th hole were good too. We got a great deal for a twosome on groupon that included a bucket of balls, golf, and coupon for lunch following our round.

Magnificent place for anyone having a very important celebration. Beautiful setting, great menu for catering, friendly service, excellent organization. This is the best place for anyone having a celebration with family and friends. Everyone who was invited was impressed by the excellence of the place and the courtesy of the staff. Thanks to all from The Battleground for making our celebration a wonderful event.

Went to a wedding reception over the weekend. The food was really good and they let us bring our own keg for the bar. The seatimg was spacious and the venue meet all wedding reception needs. Will use this venue and catering for future events.

I played this course on Saturday, June 8, 2019. All 18 greens were horrible. The sad part is when we checked in at Pro Shop the guy didn t inform our party about the greens condition. I will never play this course again. What a waste of time and money.

You looking for a quick lunch with a great view I'd recommend this place.

Great value for Friday golf! The temporary greens are a bit rough, but the course definitely is on the mend.

Food is excellent, prices are a bit high but the atmosphere offsets that. The golf course is well maintained and seems to have a regular group of players. Very nice, just a bit dated for my taste.

Poorly maintained course and something in the water is causing all of the fish to die leaving a horrible smell throughout the course. Overpriced for the experience and will not come back

A very unprofessional golf course. Players driving golf carts on greens, taking many mulligans, and not letting anybody pass through. No Marshals on the course to talk to. Very backed up and overbooked. Would have liked a refund for only being able to play 8 holes. I do not recommend this course. I would recommend playing somewhere else. Will not be playing here again.

Greens are miles better than they used to be and it is starting to look like the Battleground I'm used to. I'll be back often!

Clean facilities, but overpriced at 45 per player when the fairways and tee boxes seem to be hard as marble. Great scenery except for the dump on the back 9.

What a waste of time and money. The greens are beyond repair. They consist of tiny patches of actual grass, a lot of packed sand and in some cases a few puddles. This place should close down until they get their greens presentable. There is no way you can play an enjoyable 18-holes in its current condition. I sent an email to their GM, Rich Earlywine and received no response whatsoever.

Okay so, just let me say that I played this morning at 9:30. Very helpful staff from the pro shop to the starter, to the snack bar woman, all had a very friendly attitude. Greens were running 9.5 which was posted before you got to the 1st tee. And they were in great shape. As were the fairways. The facility, if you ask me is top notch. Prices on par with anywhere I've been in the last 6 months in the greater Houston area. If I had a slight knock, it would be the bunkers. But that's it. Really fun time. Thanks guys, I will be back for sure.

Great track, friendly/professional staff. Long enough to actually use my long irons.

Facilities and staff are great. However, the course is in rough shape.

I live in Deer Park and I can golf at better courses nearby for cheaper then I can golf here. Even seniors pay more here then I do at most other courses in the area. Greens tend to be in need of repair and pace of play can be unbearable.

Not too bad. Greens are pretty fast... Better than I expected.

Beth and her staff were miraculous and provided the perfect ceremony and reception with only 40 days notice. It was shockingly affordable. They delivered at Champagne wedding on a shoestring budget. This place is a hidden treasure and we highly recommend this venue, food and atmosphere. We originally planned an outdoor wedding but the weather forced us indoors and I am great full it did. I could not have imagined a more beautiful setting. Food was absolutely delicious and the pasta bar was a huge hit. Will definately use them again on my next large event.

Terrible terrible greens. Was overcharged because they were open on Easter and many others weren't. Terrible shape.

I love playing here. The course is nicely set up and is always a fun experience. Staff is friendly and you are allowed to golf without people breathing down your back. Great price for golf. They even have a practice facility accross the road that is inviting for all levels. The only complaint is the condition of their greens, which I'll say has improved recently this month. Highly recommend

Played here for the first time. Staff wasn t unfriendly, but they weren t friendly either. I mentioned it was my first time and got no response or welcome or anything. Not a huge deal, but like I said, not friendly. Starter was watching videos on his phone at the 1st tee, gave little to no advice when I asked him about the layout. The course was nice, good condition, but the players out this day had zero sense of pace of play or etiquette. I ll try it out again in the future, but left today pretty disappointed.

5 stars to the staff for their professionalism. 3 stars to the course being in shape, 5 stars to the rate and 1 star to course design. Fortunately I was with some great people but as for the golf experience, it was whatever.

Had a good time with my pal, staff was very friendly and helpful. Drinks at the bar are ok, i will definitely come back to play again!

Nice course. Staff very friendly and professional. Greens well kept. Only fault was very long waits at the Teebox. Overbooked.

Poor excuse for a golf course. If your on limited income and don't mind slow play and 5 hour rounds of golf this is indeed the place to play at. On the 11th someone made 2 tee times and then decide to bring an additional 12 players so everyone else had to wait to allow the other 3 teams to tee off. When reservations are made they neglect to inform anyone that it is presently cart path only and will most likely be on there day of play. Majority of the time it is filled with hackers that have nothing to do all day but play army golf and meander around the course. I'm sure this is due to the green fee not putting a burden on the cat food money. Battleground was once a exceptional golf course and the staff was golf oriented and had no problem addressing slow play. Wasn't the hackers green fee then and you only occasionally run over a 4 hour round of golf. It hasn't been about quality in a long time at this facility.

Went here to play a round of golf with some buddies on May 13th, 2019. When checking in we were told the greens were not in the best of shape. What we found was so much worse than "not in the best shape", The greens were nonexistent. They had absolutely zero grass on them and were nothing but packed sand. Do not waste your time or your money ($35) to play this course unless you check the greens out first. Total rip off right now.

This golf course is really expensive for the sub par greens. I noticed there was a hot deal on Golf now for 35 per person. I call to confirm they are open and have carts and I speak to Travis. He confirms the tee time but says if I book with him it will be 49/per. I attempt to book on golf now and it won't process my payment. Somehow the rate increases after I called. No biggie if it's a decent course. We come to play and are met with numerous greens that look like this. For that price you would think that you could reasonably putt... Two stars given as the fairways seemed well taken care of and no blatant issue with customer service. But for 100+ dollars for 18 you hope to have better than this.

Played on Saturday. Was a very nice day. I was alone my friends stoped out. Came back on Sunday and it was just as nice. Good greens and course was dry. Some wee places but not on the greens.

Price was great. Unfortunately the golf course is not. The only part that was ok was the fairways and they were a little long. The greens had very little grass. The t boxes were terrible. #9 and #18 greens were great.

Greens are currently in horrible shape - maybe 2/18 greens are decent.

The course was fine but it was not a fun experience. We had 3 above average, sub 90 scoring golfers, and it took 5 hours. The course was way overbooked and people were waiting at every tee box. Usually 2 groups waiting per tee box. Disappointing for $50+ per person per round.

Greens are total garbage.... the hard pan is widespread.... one of the most overpriced courses in Houston......

I played Battleground today. I can truly say it was in the worst shape of any golf course I have ever played. I can't believe they can charge what they do. Will never play there again.

Course is in great shape. Plays a little longer than the card says from the yellow tees. Other than that it's a perfect tract.

Some greens are horrible and the pace of play was torture.

Houston s hidden treasure for sure! I Played a round here and loved it. For the price it s well worth it. I will definitely be back again and will be bringing my buds! Good job BGGC.

The lawn was well organized and the staff were friendly.

The layout of the course is nice. Some of the tee boxes are so hard that I used the back of my driver to get the tee in. The same can be said for the greens, there is no possible way to spin the ball and make it stop as they are hard. The only way to play approaches is to use the yardage to the front of the green and let it roll out. That's just my 2 cents after having played 10+ rounds at this course.

Cool environment. Gets crowded and it takes a while to get a drink, but no complaints. Dark ambiance might be a good place to stop on a date.

I really enjoy this golf course. Definitely a challenging course with all the water hazards. I like the range and the practice course a lot. It has a good deal with the PDP program.

Great course. Starter wasn t present at the first tee today. We tee d off and starter showed up ,Told us we had to wait when no one else was around to tee box. Finally the foursome showed up and teed up after a 15 min wait. Don t know if my group will be back if this continues.

I have definitely seen this place look better! The greens were in need of a lot of work as well as the tee boxes. The fairways weren't in the best shape either. I've always enjoyed playing here. But I just wish they would put some of the green fees back into the course so that we as customers would have a better experience. I'm not sure when I'll come back to be honest.

They offered a free round of golf in the summer of 2019 while they were re-doing the greens. The course is not bad; and at a good price.

Even after a thunderstorm the course was in good shape. The green are good. The price of $19.95 was great

Unfortunately, the front 9 greens are dead, unplayable. Back 9 are close to completely dead as well. Fairways are reasonable, tboxes are reasonable. Skip this course until greens grow back

Price was not honored through golf now. When we called in to ensure carts were available we were told to pay regular price, not cool. Then on the course the greens were the worse ever. It felt like we were playing in bunkers while putting!!!!! Never again!!!!
