We just finished watching a production of Sweeney Todd. I have seen the original Broadway production years ago and I have seen the movie and this small Off Broadway production is comparable to the original cast. These young actors and actresses are utterly amazing, the staging is unique, and I was simply Blown Away. Many of the Renditions of Sondheim songs brought me to tears go see Sweeney Todd
Awesome off-broadway venue. Very intimate but known for putting on high quality productions. Very friendly staff. Our seats said obstructed view but we didn t have any issues at all. Definitely worth checking out if you ve never been.
I love this theatre. I've seen so many good shows here and they always have TJ and Dave shows once every couple months.
The Barrow Street Theatre is tucked away on Barrow Street. Get yourself a map in order to find it. Or just know that it is next door to L'Arte Del Gelato. The theater is in good shape and the acoustics are great.
Very small theater but it made the show very unique as the actors were all around us.
Theatre was awesome! I went to Sweeney Todd a few weeks ago and the show as amazing. A MUST see is the beautiful barrow theatre.
Sweeney was great. Amazing seeing Sally Ann Triplett, last time I saw her was as Sue Snell in Carrie (yes, I saw it twice). She was absolutely amazing as Mrs. Lovett!!!
Sweeney Todd is one of the best musical I have ever seen. I definitely would go see it over and over.
Nice theater Greenwich Village NYC. Saw Sweeney Todd, great show.
An incredibly intimate space to see a show. This whole place held about 100 people for Sweeney Todd, and the actors intermingled throughout the show. I felt like I was right there with them in the story and had a great time. Sat in the front row of the balcony and had a great view of everything. I hope to see more shows here in the future.
Attending the Sweeny Todd play. Absolutely wonderful. Happening neighborhood
Saw Sweeney Todd. The place was intimate and cute. It doubled as a cafe and stage
Went to see Sweeney Todd at this theatre. Great use of a small space.
Attend the tale of Sweeney Todd! Great show and cast. The meat pies are also excellent. This is an imersive space and the blocking for the play is amazing. I can't say enough about the cast, all of which were fantastic. The night I attended there were several understudies on the roster, and I have trouble imagining that they were not the first choice for these parts. Really great performances by all members especially Mrs. Lovett and Sweeney. All the entertainers had amazing voices. This is definitely worth your time and money.
Nice quaint little theatre in an intimate space. No bad seats, innovative sets that are typically immersive.
A cozy theatre with a lobby not large enough to hold everyone during intermission. As expected, the line for the ladies' room at intermission is insufferably interminable.
Brilliant theatre, well-run, beautiful acoustics. Sweeney Todd was amazing, would be excited to see any other play at this venue!
In the last 2 years I've seen some of the best theater there in my lifetime:
Our Town, Mistakes were made, Tribes and TJ & Dave.
The limited view seating is VERY limited. We loved the show, but would only sit downstairs in the future.
Excellent 200 Seat Off-Broadway Theater for intimate shows. Convenient to many excellent restaurants nearby.
Love this theater. Saw Sweeney Todd and it was incredible!
Unique performances. Recommended. Try it. Village location in NYC.
Pie and mash served and a terrific show. Interactive theater production, the actors come out into the audience and upon the tables .Wonderful company of actors led by the talented but gracious Thom Sesma playing Sweeney Todd. He chatted with us after the show and took a selfie with my wife, not scary at all in real life but terrifying in the show. We really wish the production was ongoing as we'd like to return and bring the family, it was that good.
I saw the Sweeney Todd play here which was PHENOMENAL and hands down one of the best plays I have ever witnessed. They made good use of this theatre by transforming it into a pie shop. It was very intimate and unique but more space would be useful; I felt a bit uncomfortable in my seat and with the constant need to stretch .
My son and I saw Sweeny Todd. One of my favorite shows. The interaction made it that much better.
Great, unique immersive Sweeney Todd musical opera production. Highly Recommended.
I saw Sweeny Todd: The demon barber of fleet street. Interesting, very intimate little venue. Had communal seating in the front (downstairs) that was cafeteria style and bench style seating in the back (upstairs). Not exactly comfortable, because there were no arm rest and everyone has to come out for you to come and go. The show was AMAZING but the venue its self is okay.
A great theater where you shouldn t be surprised to see the actors moving all around you.
Awesome space saw Sweeney Todd and had pie. If that was the worst pie, I wanna try the best too!
I liked the Todd Sweeney play more than I expected. Only downside is you can feel the subway go by.
Sweeney Todd was a great show! A must see before it closes!
A no-frills off-Broadway house: there's nothing fancy about this venue, it's just a functional spot to showcase some real theater. The staff is very friendly and helpful. My only reservation about this place is that if you're in the balcony, it appears the only way to get out is walking in front of the stage-- so if you're seeing a long show, be sure to stop off at the restrooms before the curtain rises!
Enjoyed Sweeney Todd a lot. Enjoyed the small theater and fantastic performance
Very friendly staff. The venue is small but uniquely interactive. Worth seeing a show here.
Very interesting theater. One of a kind experience.
What a wonderful time! The show is outstanding and the company is amazing! My daughter and I had a wonderful time.
I recently saw Sweeney Todd here. This was one of the best experience I've had at a theater very unconventional in a good way. Also the food is to die for!
A very interesting theatre to say the least. It was amazing to be amongst the actors like you are in this place. I don't know what show they will do here next, but it is a very different experience and worth going to.
A Village gem - consistently-great performances in a charming space.
Outstanding show, amazing voices, acting. Sweeney is A+!
A great experience watching the work of Swenney Todd. The work is highly recommended: they have an incredible performance and, although it is not a Broadway production, it is more than enough to enjoy good theater. I suggest taking the dinner experience where the Pay is included. I had the meat pie, soooo delicious.
The meat pie and mashed were the best part. The show was average. My experience was completely ruined upon entrance as they tried to refuse me entrance b/c I have a service animal. The House Manager was rude, and the Head Manager was even worse. My dog has been to see 78 shows including Hamilton, War Paint, Anastasia, Hello Dolly, In the Heights, Six Degrees of Separation and many many more. I have never been asked for ID after declaring her a service animal. By city ordinance once she is declared verbally any business is required to permit access and they are absolutely NOT allowed to ask for ANY documentation. The Head Manager tried to tell me it was a private entity and they had every right. When you look up the business license, it indicates that it is a public establishment. Shame shame on you for discriminating against people with a disability. They completely ruined this show for me.
I can only speak to my experience with Sweeney Todd but damn was that an incredible show. See it before it closes! Even the cheap seats are great as the theatre is so small.
Chico, so it is comfortable and you can appreciate the work from any location.
awesome show of Sweeney Todd, small and intimate theater for a great live experience
Saw The Effect which was an amazing show. Seems like some of the greatest off Broadway shows make it here and if you hunt, you can find discount tix online! Building is old school and someone needs to update the slideshow on their lobby TV screen to not look like a school iMovie project, but part of the village charm I suppose. But I care most about what show I'm seeing rather than the building. If they are hosting mind blowing shows, 5 stars for me.
I saw Sweeney Todd here. It was great! They transformed the theatre into a pie shop. Be sure to get the pie option with your ticket so you can get pie before the show! Great neighborhood, so lots of places to go before and after.
Sweeney Todd was amazing and the pies were out of this world
Unique little theatre off Broadway. Staff and cast were great.
This is more a review of the showing of Sweeney Todd I saw here. The entire space had been transformed into Mrs. Lovett's pie shop. Most of the seats were at long tables so that you could eat meat pies (chicken only!) before the show and on which the performers would sometimes climb onto. The ambiance of the performance space was excellent, as was the play itself.
However, I will say the rest of the building is pretty dilapidated, especially the bathrooms, but that's not why you're there.
Consistently houses excellent productions in an intimate environment. Seriously, whoever is in charge of choosing shows to stage here has impeccable taste.
Nice little venue, went for Sweeney Todd which was amazing! Definitely get the pie and mash
Had a blast that night when we came for Sweeny Todd! Best musical I've ever been to!
Only thing I found weird is that they didn't let us soak our clothes in water when we spilled wine on them. It would have been a quick and temporary solution.
Went to watch Sweeney Todd, delicious meat pie and great show!
We thoroughly enjoyed the immersive experience of seeing Sweeney Todd at the Barrow Street Theater. (The music overwhelmed the actors a bit, but it was still a fun production and the cast was spectacular. The set was amazing, too.) The theater is easy to find, central to many restaurants, and perfectly sized to feel intimate without being too small.
Went here to see Sweeney Todd and ad a blast. The stage was simply but the use of it was masterful. The almost 3 hours was over in a blink. I'd recommend seeing this show while it's on. ( As a bonus the meat and veggie pies were great!) I can't wait to see what other productions and events Barrow Street has in store.
Saw the immersive Sweeney Todd here. This isn't really a show review, but it's hard to review the theater without the show, because it's what's been running there ;) This is a scrappy off-Broadway venue, and if you're reading this to wonder if you should see Sweeney here, then 100% just buy the tickets now. You won't regret it.
Wonderful intimate theater that's away from the craziness of Broadway and midtown. See Sweeney Todd!
Went for the showing of Sweeney Todd. It was terrific. Small, intimate setting let's the cast really get up close and personal you into the story. If you go, opt for the package that includes the meal beforehand. The meat pies and mash we're genuinely quite good. I suspect there is some bakery nearby that must making them for the shows.they also had a delicious but difficult to identify seasoning to them which only adds to the level of immersion the environment provides.
Astutely curated offerings, intimate yet open space.
Saw "Sweeney Todd" here. Excellent production, very interesting space.
Great fun place. Saw Sweeney Todd and had a meat pie. Highly recommend this show and the preshow snack
Sweeney Todd in final days here. Run don't walk brilliant theatre.
They claim to be accessible, but (a) the ramp up their main steps takes 5-10 minutes to set up and (b) the ramp is extremely steep and cannot be navigated by a power chair or a manual chair user who isn't on the Olympic team.
The theatre itself is okay if you don't use a chair.
Perfect downtown theater hosting some of the greatest productions I have ever seen, including TJ and Dave.
