Balnarring Beach General Store Review

We love going to the Tulum store for coffee after a beach walk. The coffee is really good and the owner is delightful. There are tables outside and dogs are welcome. It's a far cry from the old general store it used to be, and is well worth a visit.

Always found it to be a good local beach side shop with excellent fish and chips. Has had some smart improvements and is now even better. Cafe inside and sit down area outside for takeaway. Nice salads. Lovely staff.

Very friendly place, but our food was terrible - fish wasn't fried well, awfully greasy. It may be a one off but won't be heading back

How lucky are we to have Cath & her team at the Tulum Store! Always a friendly smile & greeting no matter how busy they are and they work so hard to keep their customers happy. Great food, wonderful coffee, terrific atmosphere, love, love love it !!

Great babycinos and mini muffins! The takeaway menu has the best burgers around (and vegan options which is always nice). Limited parking and no view to speak of, but a super short walk to the beach.

Why I love places like this... you feel welcome even if you are from out of town... such lovely service and what was on offer for today was great. I would stop by again... Dogs are welcome too.

Terrible service ordered a egg and bacon roll 50 minutes later still no food I asked why they said it s coming after an hour I asked for money back and got no apology I won t go back

Both my wife and I would recommend this is a very nice little cafe in Balnarring to go to, after you've had a coffee taking a nice stroll on the beach it is very lovely.

Great little cafe at the entrance to Balnarring Beach. Service is prompt, polite and efficient. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Good coffee, soft drinks, take away food, pastries, local papers and some sundries available. Well worth checking out if you need some basics.

Me and my family were down from the city and wanted fish n chips by the beach. The staff were small town friendly and more than happy to accommodate even though the line was out the door. The shark bites and potato cakes were delicious. Will come here again

We LOVE Tulum store. Absolutely the best fish and chips!!!! Coffee is fantatsic and they are very flexible, laid back and accommodating to my young family each time we go there even during busy peak periods. I highly recommend

Tulum Cafe is one of the reasons I love living down here. Great coffee, food and service. I know how hard the cafe owner has worked to transform the former Balnarring Beach general store into the thriving business it is today - a credit to her and her team.

Just had the most delicious grilled chicken burger and chips! They were under the pump today but did a fabulous job! Not many people understand what it's like work on hospitality especially during summer but these guys rocked it today! If I could put more stars on here I would.

when this place is quiet it is fantastic. just about the best fish and chips you could ask for - but you can wait for more than an hour when busy - so plan ahead, especially on busy weekends / holidays when the caravan park opposite is full.
breakfast is delicious, well prepared and pleasantly quick - but there were only a couple of others seated at the time.
a great local general store overall.

A small sized large frothy milkshake in a take away cup. The excuse for not using a glass traditional cup, was because they didn t want to have to do the dishes. Not good enough.

Good food at a good price. The staff are lovely and nice to dogs! (as well as people! )

Absolutely make the best coffee on the peninsula
And when you turn up at 7am in the morning and are greeted with the biggest smile from the lovely staff it makes the start to a terrific day

Great fish and chips! We stopped in here after a day at the beach. This is no ordinary suburban fish and chip shop. My wife ordered fish tacos and our son and I had the beer battered barramundi. Everything was done just right. Crispy batter, juicy fish, crunchy chips and potato cakes, South Melbourne market dim sims. They even do an Asian slaw which was great. Can't wait to come back next time we are in the area. Highly recommended.

Lovely quiet place by the beautiful Balnarring beach for coffee and light meals.Near the caravan park and playground .Relaxing place with kids away from the towns.

The chips were great but the grilled fish turned this 5 star review to a 2 star. The grilled fish was extremely expensive for what was received. The fish was smaller than my phone (and my phone isn't even that big). We asked for grilled, but it was more like steamed. There was no seasoning at all either. There was a wedge of lemon, but did the fish no justice. What a shame as we read so many good reviews.

Firstly, Hands down best fish and chips on the peninsula.
Secondly, to be in little place like Balnarring Beach its actually got an awesome menu. Fish tacos, sweet potato chips and a range of yum burgers. Also such good friendly service.

These guys were swamped with customers on New Years Day so we chose not to eat but the food looked & smelled really good.

Ideal combo: Beach, General Store, Carpark & Amenities.

Yummy chips but the potato cakes are definitely out of a packet and are an absolute let down. Please change them so I can rate this place 5 stars!!!

Incredibly slow service. Hung around for 50 mins waiting for a burger and chips that i was told would be out in 20! Was a great burger though just don't be in a hurry

If you must exploit child labour, teach them how to make a coffee or share the savings with the consumer. Ten dollars for two burnt coffees. I hear the food is decent though

Nice workers and amazing staff however only accommodates to one audience, coffee drinkers. On a 42 degree day we were forced to sit outside in the heat, because all the air conditioned seats were reserved for cafe customers, not the take away customers, yet there were zero cafe customers in sight. I still remember the old days of the general store, lower prices for more substance and had the T.V. running with the cricket on all day (not just the news in the morning). Sadly all that s left of the place is a gentrified cafe that has lost the spirit of balnarring, unfortunate to see so many of these peninsula general store succumbing to the same fate.

A wonderful cafe, coffee is arguably better than what's available in Balnarring village. Katherine and her team do a marvelous job, always acknowledge you upon arrival. Fish and chips are much better than what's available in the Village. Keep up the great work Katherine.
