I believe the location to be perfect. Parking was not difficult, for a Saturday evening. The coffee, tea and wine menu was adequate. The pastry selections require improvement. Front counter service would benefit from organization and more staffing.
Overall a fair place to visit. Don't expect too much in the way of service or menu selection and you will do well. Perfect for a solo study session or 10 minute meeting.
Great Carmel Coffee /flavorful & robust. Peaceful atmosphere
This is a great place to study that's close to home and enjoy a nice cup of coffee or beer. They have a well designed floor plan. Staff and people are generally friendly there. I look forward to them expanding their vegan food options. I would recommend this shop to all my friends.
Consistent, clean, good drinks. Love the danishes and the beverages. Not big on the prepared food.
Bit noisy, but nothing hard to handle. Coffee and selection of brews to pick from, all for a good price.
Also nice to have secure parking just right around the corner.
Being from San Francisco, I can be a bit of a coffee snob and Great Lakes Coffee exceeds my expectations. They not only serve a limited menu of items like vegan banh mi and pimiento cheese dip, but they also offer craft beer, European wine, and handcrafted coffee beverages. The venue has vaulted ceilings and industrial furniture. During the weekdays, communal tables hug the perimeter, while full service cafe tables fill the interior.
My favorite coffee drink is their lavender latte, which comes in a petite glass. It's caramelly and lightly floral in finish. The Mexican mocha certainly has a kick, and could use more dark chocolate to add depth. The servers are gregarious and you can play trivia on Wednesday or come in for vinyl Tuesdays. We joined their beer club of the month for a nominal $25/month and we've enjoyed the selection so far. All in all, it's my favorite place to work remotely, meet locals, and people watch.
Fine products served by finer people. Clean and socially distanced but with that cozy college coffee house feel. You could be arriving for that marathon cram session or energizing for a night of mayhem and shennanigans.......no better place to start or finish.
Pricey for Detroit. This still isn't Brooklyn, fellas. The space is nice, if wholly unoriginal. The beer selection is good, specializing I'm high gravity small batch brews.
Always a great experience....plus, you can get a nip with your coffee!
I live pretty close to this shop and they've been amazing from the first moment i've tried them out. Throughout the pandemic, they've been one of the most consistent spots to go to and i truly appreciate that. A rock-star team and will continue having my support! They also have amazing shirts/ hoodies that are pretty damn cool & comfy :)
5 spice latte is great! Like the environment as well.
Decor is hip, coffee is amazing. The baristas are knowledgeable, courteous, and importantly passionate about coffee. There is also a nice selection of craft beer and their coffee menu selection is appropriate for real coffee lovers
Excellent coffee and service! However, upscale and slightly more expensive than your average coffee shop.
Nice place, dont entirely understand the artwork theme.
Solid choices for both food and coffee. Pretty decent spot as well to get work done but is usually full, so it can be hard to find a spot.
Coffee was good, but expensive, the atmosphere is really laid back, I would go for the experience. I'm not really a coffee drinker so paying 4 bucks for a coffee is too much for me.
Great atmosphere
Expensive prices
Good coffee
They've got wine, beer, mixed drinks, sandwiches, pastries.
Milk wasn't done great on last latte, but they've been great in the past.
Pour overs available.
Soooo...I'm a coffee snob with the best of them. But I asked for a sixteen once vanilla latte. "We don't use flavors here and the largest size is 12 Oz". I guess that's your prerogative as a coffee shop. But it felt very condescending. I'm not a Starbucks fan. I love little independent coffee shops. But I have my go to. I'm willing to try your special coffee but tell me how cool it is instead of looking at me like a heathen
First time coming here today. Love the location, warm and cozy, probably because of the interior. They didn't have my favorite drink white chocolate mocha (which is why I gave them 4/5 stars because that's a little unusual), so I got a dark chocolate one instead. The barista was super friendly, she took time describing what some of the other options are and didn't rush me even though there were a few customers coming in at that time. Really professional. The drink came out quite good. Definitely will come back.
I'm a fan of Great Lakes Coffee as far as their atmosphere and rotating selection of beer goes, but they should really consider having drip coffee available all day. I would come here way more often if I didn't have to pay nearly $5 for a small cup of coffee after 11 a.m.
Walking distance to work. Love their shrubs & coffees. Nice employees. Many students working on their computers. Like the atmosphere.
Such a wonderful place. Loved the seating they had.
Great Coffee in the Am and luscious wine in the PM. Fantastic stop for both
coffee shop with beer selection. What else can you ask?
Must try lavender latte...pretty darn delicious. They have a 50/50, coffee & beer, haven't tried yet but will the next time I go.
It's a little price for some of the food, but the coffee is great. I got the cold brew and it is perfect on a warm summer day. They also have some vegan treats and sandwiches, which is always a plus. My wife had the lavender late with almond milk and it was also great.
A nice hole-in-the-wall coffee shop, polite staff and great espresso.
I had much higher hopes for this store due to their reputation and others reviews. I visited on a Sunday and was behind maybe 4 people and it took nearly 25 minutes to get to the register to give my order.
There were two people behind the bar and they seemed the least bit bothered that a line was forming and they weren t moving the people along. On several occasions a man from the back room that appeared to be a manager of some kind would come out and casually converse with the team, holding things up even more.
Maybe this is just the environment here, that you come in knowing you will be chilling there for a while and it doesn t matter how long they take, but I was trying to grab something to go on my way out of town and this was definitely the wrong place for that.
Great Green tea latte.
Ample, industrial space.
Great coffee and vibe. Also like the beer options. 4 stars because they are out of all food? That's a bit weird.
Very good drinks. Would have been 5 stars but a bit pricy.
Great. Busy atmosphere. Good to work in. Great spicey mocha. Yum
Hipster central. Best coffee in the area. Will be back
Beautiful building! And even if that's not important to you, the vibe will make up for it. They have a great nitro cold brew, and I had the Spanish tuna and white bean salad and it was amazing! A home run for Detroit for sure.
Best chia latte Ive ever had. Baristas were friendly and extremely skilled.
Finally made it back home to #Detroit and enjoyed some amazing Great Lakes Coffee Roasters lavender latte! #MissKatMoonApproved
Good coffee but the $12 I spent for a lox bagel was not worth it at all. The tomatoes were disgusting (pictured below), and the bagel had hardly any cream cheese and was hard as a rock. So disappointing.
Visited this coffee shop the last time I was in town, and made sure to stop back by. Got a lavender latte and it was super good. The wait was a little long, but the staff was super friendly so I did not mind.
The place was busy- from students doing work on their laptops to groups of friends catching up with one another. I was reading a book from class, and I enjoyed how open and cozy this place was.
Would definitely come back. It's a super cute place.
Worst espresso, the beans were not fresh, it tasted sour.
This place has the perfect ambiance to study and meet with people! Amazing espresso and food.
This coffee shop is amazing. I have only ben here once, but the service is great and the atmosphere is wonderful. You must get out here and experience a quality coffee house.
Great place to meet up with friends and get some work done. Their prices are incredible and the food is really good. Will definitely come again!
There was a bit of a wait for simple avocado toast sure enough I enjoyed my coffee w/almond milk while I waited.
Just about the most hipster cafe I've ever seen. What appears to be a normal coffee shop from the outside actually serves unique menu items such as the 50/50 (half coffee half beer), vegan bahn mi sandwiches (that's what is on the menu, I don't think there are vegetarian or meat versions available), or smoked shrimp tacos.
I can only rate based upon my iced coffee, which was excellent. Highly recommended.
Coffee good. Atmosphere vibin'. Dance battle, poppin'.
Enjoyed sitting outside, drinking coffee along with some other drinks, playing card games with friends.
Great coffee, chill coffee house vibe...with a bar! Live music.
Quiet little coffee shop. Very nice staff and nice bar. I have only tried their IPAs once but they change the beers every month. I always go for the lavender latte during the day. The atmosphere is very relaxing and there are usually students there studying. Customer for life! I always have a positive experience there.
Excellent coffee, an even better place to stop and work. Pro tip, come in the afternoon and roll right from coffee into a delicious beer while you work.
Decent coffee, terrible brownies, very hipster staff. Asked for a"pretty latte" and the barista obliged.
One of my favorite coffee shops because of their selection of drinks and sweets!
This is my go-to coffee spot in Midtown. I love the community vibe and there are some gems on the menu (looking at you, lavender latte!).
Nice organic flavor of coffee. And i love the fact that they put in two shots of espresso in their latte
I dont like paying $5 for coffee, fine with it for a beer. That said been there several times, great coffees and beers, strong, bold, unique flavors without being over exotic. Great atmosphere.
Very relaxing. Great chai tea latte with almond milk and we sat next to cute guys.
As someone who works in specialty coffee (and I don t mean a chain like Starbucks) I was really excited to try this place out!! Very nice ambience of the whole place so I definitely had high hopes which were crushed by the awful service and worse yet bad coffee (resulting from poor service). I was first overcharged for the pour over I asked for. When I asked about it the other barista barista made it very clear it was an inconvenience to give me the money back via body language and tone I told her it was fine and to just keep it as tip!! I know what it s like to have a bad day we re all human so I was fine with it. All was well until I i couldn t overlook the awful service because it was met by a lukewarm cup of coffee. I mean the paper cup they put it in didn t even feel warm to touch and there was not even a little steam coming from the coffee. I m sure it would ve tasted excellent had it actually been hot but I didn t even see the girl put fresh, hot water into the kettle.. the other barista was actually very nice, but the terrible service complimented by the lack of attention to small details made this place a complete flop. Will try again in hopes of a different barista on the job.
Great environment, nice part of town, great selection of drinks and food.
Great atmosphere. Offers great coffee, local beer and wine and an assortment of small food items.
Great coffee and atmosphere. I recommend their corktown blend.
