It s crazy to think that in 2019 a black man can t sit at a coffee shop and be serviced like the loyal customer that I am. This morning I went to Great Lakes Roast Coffee in Detroit, Michigan. Upon sitting at the coffee bar for about 5-7 minutes I watched as countless staff serviced other customers around me. Not once did someone acknowledge me, offer a menu, or even simply say good morning. Disheartened, I asked to speak to a manager about my awful experience. I was told there was no manager on site and basically dismissed. I never received an apology or anything. Needless to say, I won t be coming back and I strongly advise people of color to not spend their money at this establishment.

I'll preface this by saying I only go for trivia nights (not a coffee drinker). Solid trivia night every other Wednesday at 8PM. Great prizes, good drink specials. Michigan and other good micro brews on draught. Quality ambience and service.

I'm leaving this review mainly for the bathroom, although the coffee was delicious. I was simply blown away by the decor and overall ambience of the bathroom. Exposed brick, murals, excellent soap.

I've been here many times. The coffee is bizarre but, delicious! I love the Sexy Mexican! Very Spicy and creamy. I am very glad that they have a wide selection of vegan food and snacks. I think the inside is great and the selection of art is great.

My business partner & I stopped here earlier today on our way to the airport after a weekend trip to London Ontario. We ve been to several roasters across the USA & this was one of the coolest vibes I ve seen. They offer coffee, beer & wine. There is a cool chalk board displaying their bean sourcing. Definitely a cool spot to set up a laptop. I watched an artist sketching a self portrait as I enjoyed avocado toast & a nitro cold brew. A must-visit for a coffee enthusiast visiting the Detroit area.

Unbelievably overpriced. The "pour over" method is a gimmick. It's simply non automated drip. 4 dollars for a mug of this is ridiculous.

It gets three stars for all the outlets. The coffee is nothing special (other than the impact it made on my wallet).

I'm not a big coffee drinker so I love that I can meet my friends for coffee and have a glass of champagne while they drink their coffee. There aren't too many outlets so it's not 100% the best for long term working.

I like the nice kick of their coffee... even with the capuchino you can feel the espresso pumping you up. Service is good. I like they only have one size, keep it simple tried the macaroons, they are not too sweet.

An awesome space with gentrified atmosphere. Rustic brick, refurbished scrap wood and exposed ducts. Espresso was good and reasonably priced. They offered two bean varieties, a single origin Costa Rican and a Hybrid. Both come as a shot or in 3-5-8oz steamed milk options. The batista was friendly and knowledge about the product and pulled a mean shot. I didn't try any of the food but a number of the items sounded good including a Vegan Banh Mi. In addition to coffee they have a wide selection of craft beer and wine.

Really love this place. Most of the coffee places don't have a vibe of a legit coffeehouse, this one has a great variety of coffee for all the coffee lover out there! My personal suggestion would be spicy mocha with a cayenne pepper, very delicious! Oh and they also have true and legit macaroons, as they must be. Good spot!

Spacious, friendly, innovative, tasty, trendy, and comfortable. Great music, great selection of coffee and tea drinks along with homemade concoctions and beer. The chai latte with almond is the perfect blend of spice and creaminess. The mocha is equally balanced. Neither is overly sweet. The barista bangs them out with precision.

Great Lakes is a fantastic spot for a rich pour over coffee, small plates, as well as beer and wine. There are always students studying here and professionals holding meetings. It s a warm space with the hardwood floors and exposed brick. People are often using their laptops and there are quite a few wall outlets available if you plan on staying long.
