Great place to get work done on your laptop, catch up with friends, or hold small meetups. The beverages are decent, however I strongly emphasize that it depends on the staff creating it. Expect the prices to comparable to normal coffee shops. There are table and bar seatings to choose from, as well as outdoor seating for those who love that. The only con that comes to mind is the parking. Some days it can be a bit of a challenge if you're parking on the street. There's a parking structure right next to it, but I'm not sure if it's reserved for students and such. You should check it out. Anyway, this location is pretty decent, and the vibe is very relaxed and respectable. It's definitely worth a visit or two.

I'm a great fan of inviting coffee houses with a good brew. The Great Lakes Coffee Roasting Company definitely has a great brew, and their combination of food and wine, with their coffee certainly makes for a comfortable experience, any time of the day.

Coffee is a little expensive, but it's definitely worth it. The staff, atmosphere, and customer base are all wonderful. I would go every morning if I could.

Great lakes is one of my favorite coffee shops in Detroit. The atmosphere is great to get some work done, study, meet a friend, or have a quick business meeting.

The coffee is excellent and the staff always has a great attitude. The one fault is that the internet is frequently very bad.

I frequent this place before and after classes at WSU. The staff is very pleasant and aware of their guests needs.

Good coffee; normally have around 3 pour overs to choose from, as well as a nitro cold brew on top of regular coffee and latte drinks. Their specialty lattes are also made with house made syrups-the lavender latte is my favorite. The food is also pretty good with a decent selection. It does get relatively busy on weekdays around 10:30-12 but it is still a good location to study/work or meet up with a friend.
Also have a full bar with a great rotating draft menu, though I have never been at night to determine how crowded it could get.

Fast service and delicious coffee is what you can expect when you come to Great Lakes Coffee. I stopped in there for an interview with a magazine editor and had a very enjoyable time.

Great Lakes Coffee is a nice quiet atmosphere, even though the place was packed. The seats and stools are comfortable which let you enjoy your coffee even more.

They have your standard fare coffee or espresso or latte and they also have some more specialized items to make a very unique experience. Not only do they have coffee but they also have sandwiches and other food items.

The variety of coffees available was amazing! The atmosphere was wonderful with happy people meeting up and lots of wayne state students studying quietly! The almond croissant melted in my mouth!

I absolutely love this place! I will go here whenever I'm in town. They serve food, they have a full bar, and they serve great coffee.

I like the ambiance and coffee was mid but the wifis dummy slow. Went in around 1:30 to folk music. Went right back down to Starbucks on Woodward

The best privately owned coffee house in the downtown Detroit area this side of the city's economic resurrection. A weekly changing roster of fine art from local artists decorates the walls for sale along with luxury brands of independently made alcohol. An old fashioned industrial interior design wraps everything up in an personal and high quality experience.

Atmosphere is social, comfortable, and spacious. Baristas are friendly knowledgeable and quick. Food is homemade and excellently prepared and crafted. Great options in Roast and excellent options for crafting beverages.

Good coffee and nice space. Used to be my favorite local coffee house but the last few times I've been in, they've given me coffee in a paper cup, and today my partner's mocha was cold by the time we got at. Baked goods are sometimes stale. They need to get their game back on.

Good coffee and selection of pastries and breakfast options! I liked the breakfast tacos while the standard egg sandwich was okay. A solid place to set up your computer and get some work done. Free WiFi.

Everytime I go here it seems like all the baristas have an attitude. What? Hipsters can't be polite?! LOL! The coffee and menu items aren't spectacular enough to keep me coming back to endure such treatment. When I was in college I'd study here because it was open late. But now I may go here once or twice a year and only if someone else suggests it for a meeting spot.
... Also, is it just me or cashiers HAND you your money/card back and not slap it on the countertop?

Highly recommend the green goddess sandwich - one of my favorite vegetarian things to eat in Detroit. The multigrain bread is thick sliced and super fluffy with amazing crust. Always a quality sandwich in my experience.

Great Lakes has an extensive drink menu, a great space to study, and good food options. As a med student, I have spent a lot of time here studying because there is easy access to caffeine and food, plus I can talk to my friends when I have a question. My favorite combo: black coffee with the toasted cheese sandwich!

They're slow & unfriendly, but at least they're expensive. It takes 10 minutes to get a plain ole cup of coffee and then when it comes its lukewarm. I've given them 2 chances and I'm done. McDonalds is right down the street.

My only complain is the WiFi. A coffee shop like this one should really have better WiFi. They have two networks and I couldn't connect to either. They claimed it was due to the construction outside, which may be the case. Just felt like that was a poor excuse.

The first time I went was after getting an MRI across the street at the hospital and I wanted to go to one of the "fancy" coffee shops to treat myself, and oh my was it a treat! I got an iced mocha and a ham and cheese croissant and they were both absolutely delicious! That day started my obsession with trying to find the best ham and cheese croissants I can find and they are still in the top two! I absolutely LOVE espresso and theirs is top notch. They also carry their coffee and espresso at bread by crispelli's so whenever I go there I absolutely have to get either an iced or hot mocha. Just so smooth and fresh and just, YUM!!
