In all honesty, I haven't used Backroads, though live in an area where they operate regularly. They tend to hog resources (like campsites/picnic areas) and skim off tourist dollars from the local economy. If you are traveling to a specific location you should really use local guide services. Backroads groups tend to really standout and are usually pretty dorky. Go local. Be cool.
Just returned from my fourth Backroads trip, a bike trip to Burgundy. My compliments to the company for delivering consistently great experiences. We rode through beautiful countryside, past famous vineyards and historic chateaus. Our accommodations were deluxe, and the food was wonderful. Our guides were knowledgeable, and professional.
Fantastic company all around. The best people, the best environment, and best travel experiences one can possibly do. Active travel at its finest.
I've taken two Backroads camping trips with my teenage son. It's our summer bonding time and has proved to be a better experience than I could have imagined. Highly recommended. Everything is done for you except riding the bikes! We've been to the San Juan Islands and Yellowstone/Tetons. This year, hopefully Alaska!
I used to work there, what can I say. It's an awesome place to work and we do amazing trips.
I did three hiking vacations with Backroads during the 1990s. This past week I was in Springdale, Utah and to my surprise I saw some Backroads vehicles. the people that were working were as nice and as friendly as ever. you guys remain AWESOME.
I will never travel with this company because they don't treat their employees well
