Baala is a youth-led organization that is committed to making menstruation a non-issue in India. The organization aims to tackle the main problem about female menstrual hygiene recognized in India: the expense of modern sanitary products, problem of disposal, complete lack of awareness and information and the social taboos surrounding menstruation.

The name Baala means young girl in Hindi, which reflects the organization's focus on empowering young girls and women through education and access to menstrual hygiene products. Baala believes that every woman has the right to manage her menstrual cycle with dignity and without any hindrance.

The Importance of Menstrual Hygiene

Menstrual hygiene is an essential aspect of women's health that often goes unnoticed or ignored. In India, many women face challenges when it comes to managing their periods due to various reasons such as poverty, lack of education, cultural taboos etc.

According to a study conducted by WaterAid India in 2018, only 36% of Indian women use sanitary pads during their periods. The rest resort to using old clothes or rags which can lead to infections and other health issues.

Moreover, there is still a lot of stigma attached to menstruation in Indian society. Many girls are forced to drop out from school once they start menstruating because they do not have access to proper sanitation facilities or feel embarrassed about attending school during their periods.

Baala's Mission

Baala aims at creating awareness among young girls about menstrual hygiene management through educational programs conducted across schools and colleges throughout India. They also provide free sanitary pads for those who cannot afford them.

Their mission is not just limited towards providing free sanitary pads but also educating people on how important it is for every woman/girls' well-being & dignity while managing her period with ease & comfortability without any hindrance caused by social stigmas around it.
