OK its not Heathrow but at least is far better than Luton or Gatwick. After you're on board the plane rarely delays to take off. Itsu, Starbucks, Pret a Manger, Hoola coffee and many more venues make your life easier
Overly crowded, queueing at EVERY toilet and I'm referring to the men's!!!
Security: abysmal, slow, understaffed. Plenty more security terminals open but not being utilised to alevuatea the mass flow of traffic.
I will now fly out of Luton and do a 1.5 hiir drive to acoid this disgraceful airport.
The self-service of checking out the luggage was interrupted by a staff "helping" hand and
i couldn't do it by my self, while I would like to check the weight and maybe add additional thing from my purse but unfortunately I was interrupted. It was a horrible experience. Afterwards during the boarding time staff let people outside earlier and forced to stand outside on cold, while plane wasn't yet prepared and flight attendants and pilots weren't present yet. Organization of the airport is terrible.
This airport serves its purpose, but it has long queues for security and check in. Food is overpriced but you have enough choice to where you want to burn your money. Cash mashines are a rip off but you can always pay with card everywhere you go. Connections to london are great with BUS and Train.
Uncomfortable for the distance from London. The coaches employ us a lot and the last time to reach Victoria we did a very long and useless tour of 2 hours and 40. The price of the train instead is absurd.
I happened to miss the plane because of the traffic coming out of London, but despite the fact that I and a dozen people of the same flight had arrived in time for boarding, the pretty lady with the crooked gate teeth left us to watch people getting on our plane 50 meters from us. Needless to say night at the airport like the worst refugees along with a few hundred other people. Ah, and the check-in and check-out queues have nothing to envy from ours.

Awful airport experience. Arrived 3 hours before my flight and ended up running to the gate because of a complete lack of adequate design and staffing. Queuing to board a long stay car park bus for 30 minutes? I've never ever experienced this in the many times I've used airport car parking. Then inside the terminal, no direction as to where the check in desks are located for each airline. Going into security, scanning boarding passes yourself and trying to get through automated barriers with a buggy and two children was impossible. Every other person travelling with an infant was having the exact same problem. Then having to find a member of staff and produce your boarding pass, your infant's boarding pass and your passports was a nightmare and certainly not easy in a crowd akin to chucking out time at a football match! I was unaware (due to lack of signage and staffing) that there was a dedicated family security area (despite actively looking for one). Didn't discover it until I was in the (extremely long) security queue with my toddler screaming in the buggy. There were not enough staff on duty to deal with the volume of people.
Next I had to navigate my way through a long winding path past shops and eateries, littered with people shopping, waiting and generally hanging around looking at departure boards. No doubt specifically designed to get you to part with your cash on your way to the gate (and I would happily have done some shopping myself had security not have taken so long) but not so good when you're flight is on its last call for departure. Next is the scrum for the train to take you to the gate. Two carriages when there could have been four and people packed in like sardines.
Our inbound experience wasn't much better. Nearly an hour to get through passport control? Then another scrum to get on a bus for the long stay car park. Busses every 10 minutes? I think not. 2 hours 10 minutes from aeroplane to car. Not acceptable.
I'll never fly from Stansted again. Complete shambles.
Ryanair staff got no manners at all rude and arrogant.
Lack of indication and we walked a lot before we finally understood that we had to take a shuttle (a bus) to recover the car we had rented.
This is not stipulated anywhere ....
So when we do not know we search and we turn. Which ends up annoying. ..

The worst airport I've been in. At night there were many people and they closed 3 rooms of the airport to put all the people in a corner. See if they close it already.
Due to snow, a good large airport was delayed on February 28 before taking off for Milan for 10-20 minutes in order to spray the plane with special liquid

Diabolical shopping centre : not an airport : with astronomical prices and rude staff. Management need to wake up to themselves and help people board their plane without the stress of narrow snaking corridors. This place has turned in to hell on earth

I travel from Stansted Airoport to my country and and have I my luggage some things which was confiscated. This was not problem for me because they told me I can pay for my things to be delivered to me . The lady from staff see want I left in luggage point one parfume and some cream and tell me to contact someone from luggage point which I do. When I complete the form someone contact me to pay some money to receive my things home .. After 2 weeks I contact them and they told me that I have one parfume and they can't send via Royal Mail . And they don't refound me any money back.. Don't trust staff from Stansted Airoport they want only take the money

Usually very busy, but has OK shops and restaurants.
The departure displays made me almost miss 2 flights because NONE of the long gone flights get removed. All the relevant depatures are being queued up on a single of the 4 screens that takes ~2 minutes to swap pages, which when appended up to like 10 pages takes 20 minutes of your 15 min you have to get to your gate=100% missed flight. A sad solution to this is to just randomly take the monorail to some gate and stay there if it randomly ends up being correct or if not to call for a transfer with one of the telephones (5305). TONS of wasted space that couldve been of use if it had more seats. Lounge prices are beyond rediculous. Wifi is only free for 1 hour and then its half a fortune (friendly reminder that its 2015). The only good thing about this airport are the post-check in restaurants and the affordable public transport.
TL;DR Stinky, heavily crowded hall of disappointment thats stuck in the 80ies

Absolutely disgraceful customer experience in every area. Even the WC taps don t operate properly.
I took my luggage totally ripped. All my clothes was ripped and the other stuff I had inside broken. There was noone at the Ryanair desk to go and complain. And the girl in the information desk just said that it got ripped in the previous airport. I bet my bag fall down and the driver drive over. But of course noone was there to take the responsibility. One star is too much for this airport. Oh and by the way. Even if you want to breathe you need to pay there. Everything is freaky expensive. Car park prices are just a big joke

Huge que no one to give directions.ie fastrack etc and this is 04,11 in the morning.good humoured passengers sort themselves out.
It's ok but not for sleepovers, the WiFi lasts only 4 hours and the food options are rather limited
No charging stations and the ones that are still there no longer work. Management appear to have done this on purpose to save money, might as well be a 3rd world country. What happens if people only have boarding passes on their phone but run out of battery? Bloody embarrassment to the country.
We like Stanstead for its easy and cheap bus access to London. You can easily book a bus to take you to any of the train stations . For example Whitechapel which we can then use the London overground trains to get to our house. Never had a problem there.
It's an airport. Once just passes through there. It's not a place where one would go to hang out. Having said that, it's a beautiful building and was pretty seamless passing through despite the pandemic.
Not recommendable if you have to spend the night. No electricity sockets and very few possibilities to take a nap. Departure area is closed over night. Probably a better idea to stay at one of the main train stations like Euston where you'd at least have unlimited internet access.
Flying between 0800 and 1000? Make sure to arrive 3 hours early! 90 minute ques for security are very normal
If you need a toilet, Stansted is a 3rd world airport. Just 2 toilets for the entire departure lounge that are way too small hence queues, right now at 0530am in the morning! They announce the gate at the last minute so you have no chance to get to the gate in good time and use the toilets there which would be much let busy. The head of markeing idiot clearly wants you keep every crammed next to the overpriced shops and food in the departure lounge. Next is a letter of complaint to Stansted.

Expensive "express" train whisks you into the most badly run and infuriating airport in the South East of England. Luton is awful too, but Stanstead wins !

Always prefer leaving from here when I'm flying budget airlines. Good layout and lots of shops and food options for when you arrive early. Security is pretty quick and straightforward.
We flew out of here on a busy day in the peak of euro summer. The signage for people not checking in baggage could be improved - as there is a separate lane you can use with shorter queues to get your passport checked, but this was not marked out at all. However, ground staff were helpful and pointed us in the right direction upon us asking.
After that point - boarded flight without issues. Just plan in advance for the queues at security, this is a busy airport.
Great coffee shop Harris &Hoole after security a plus.
It is to be expected that tourists, while bringing enormus cash flow to that country, do such tings like sleeping while waiting for an aircraft (within reason, let's say 6 hours before). But, it is not allowed in Stansted.
This could possibly be the worst airport and have the worst airport staff I have ever experienced, and I have been to Manila Terminal 2, which is known to be among the worst in the world. Believe me, Manila Terminal 2 beats this airport in every conceivable way, the staff especially. Stanstead staff are rude, unhelpful, slow and uneducated and are not able to use common sense or think outside their ridiculous policies even a little. Will never ever fly from stanstead, avoid at all costs.

Quite possibly the worst airport in the UK! It is the most inaccessible in terms of getting from terminal to the aircraft going up and down stairs witn no assistance and unhelpful staff!
As I have 2 young children this place is a massive no no for families.
As for the security leaving the UK the staff there were very rude and obnoxious!
Very bad experience First and last time I fly to this airport. Delayed flights, excess passengers, eternal queues, lack of staff to accommodate so many people ..... Not worth it, really. In case the experience was not bad enough, the flight delay left us trapped at the airport, since the car rental companies do not have the deference of waiting for the arrival of the delayed flights. That said: never again.
This place SUCKS. I have flown out of here twice in 18 months and it is truly apaulling. You are in one giant queue on the way out and way in, for everything. There are no seats anywhere in this hideously cramped terminal. Lord knows who people with disabilities cope. Shame on STN.

Even a star is too much. Zero coma nix service, departure opens at 3:00. If you have an earlier flight you have to wait for hours on the Bodem. Never again Stansted.
Lots of shops, ample seating to accommodate all the travelers, as well as friendly staff on site. The security check was swift and friendly as well.
Worst facilities for waiting costumers I ever seen on a airport. People are standing in toilets to charge phones (because they "locked" the sockets that's awaileable) , they don't have enof seats so people sitt on floor. And no open cafes, kiosks during night even the airport is full of people.
It's ok. Nothing special security checks take a good 30 to 45 mins. Slowest b I've been to. Not speedy. Staff. Soso

It's the WORST airport EVER! Recent experience and apologies for the long post that follows:
Company of 6, we arrived over 2 hours before our flight at the airport and stood at the baggage control waiting for our turn, which turn didn't come until one and a half hour later. We repeatedly mentioned that our gate opened and we need to be checked as fast as possible to what the personel responded with unacceptable rudeness and irony telling us to ask each and every person in front of us if they are willing to offer their turn to us. Two of our suitcases ware kept for extra control for absolutely no reason, nothing was found on the inside that could possible ring their bell for checking it. We ran -not walked, RAN- for 15 minutes through their Duty Free shops and cafe/restaurants which we couldn't skip and go fast to the gates, and right at the moment that we arrived the gate was shut in front of faces while we seriously made eye contact with the lady closing it.
We were never called as last passengers of the flight, never given priority although the unecessary control was what slowed us down and although being A LOT ahead of time, never treated humain in any circumstance. I am convinced that this incident -as it is not the only incident happening to me personaly at this airport, nor me and my compary are the only ones missing a flight this wayfrom this particular airport- is some sort of policy running through Stansted to steal as much money as possible from the passengers who of course will have to book another flight, eat and drink and shop there and generally cover the airport's expenses for being that far away from city centre same as THAT unbelievably inconvienient.
Never EVER flying again from or to that place.

AVOID! Parking scam is serious.NEEDS POLICE INVESTIGATION imho. Like to think your credit card is safe when booking via official site? Yes the official Stanstead parking site? Think again... prepare to get your credit cards blocked abroad afterwards, and have a bitter laugh trying to pick your way through all the London based fraudulent transactions. Customer support is appalling. Oh and queues in passport control 30 mins+. Serious organisational issues there.
Worst ever airport, unhelpful staff, incredibly over crowded!! ~15 minute walk from security checks to gates. We missed the flight! but we could have made it if staff even gave a thought of help. I wish you could get the same treatment we got today.
If for some unavoidable reason you had to use this airport, get there at least 3 hours early.

Worst airport ever.
Bad service, no place to sit down but if your flight is in the morning you have to be there on the previous day because of the transport. After 1am they just close everything and take away more seats from the passengers. Disgusting.
Horrible place where customer service goes to die, is genuinely as joyus as a mortuary with a severe lack of comfortable places for passengers to sit without being able to lie down.
The only redeeming feature is the staff of both the Costa and the Burger King who deserve to work in a far nicer airport.

Very large airport compared, of course, to the one I know well, of Cagliari. All very functional, well organized and excellent indications in number and quality. Very satisfied.

They looked at me sideways to the mascara, scandalously long safety queue, bad signage. Erroneous indications that caused me to miss the flight and have to pay another, without knowing if I can catch the flight this week. I'm waiting for a seat to come out. Because Ryanair doesn't promise me that, if I have to pay, I have to pay. No one at the airport speaks Spanish. I am looking forward to getting out of here so as not to catch a flight again at this airport.
