This is an excellent location, right off the I-5. It is a very lovely venue, both inside and outside, pleasing to the eye and mind. Staff and docents were extremely welcoming and helpful. There are a broad variety of exhibits, something for everybody. I was especially interested in the Native American Art and its commentary on contemporary history and culture. Also, the information and displays about indigenous craft and art were valuable. Overall there is a great variety of information about the history and development of the west. I plan to return and learn more.

Really neat place to learn a bit about western history (circa 1800s) and few other non related local exhibits including various art both paintings and sculptures. I did find it somewhat odd that the museum has many exhibits not related to western history. One of the best exhibits is the mural located in bottom floor. During our visit some of the mural was blocked as this area was partially used as storage. There is ample free parking. There is also a large grassy field next to the museum where you can find people picnicing. There was no food service inside the museum (possibly due to Covid restrictions) however the gift shop is open.

About Autry museum of the american west

The Autry Museum of the American West is a unique and fascinating museum that is dedicated to preserving and sharing the stories of all peoples of the American West. The museum is located in Los Angeles, California, and it has been inspiring visitors for over 30 years with its wide range of exhibitions, public programs, lectures, film screenings, festivals, family events, music performances and educational outreach.

The Autry Museum was founded in 1988 by Gene Autry - a famous cowboy actor who had a deep passion for Western history and culture. His vision was to create a place where people could come together to learn about the diverse cultures that have shaped the American West over time. Today, his legacy lives on through this incredible institution that continues to inspire visitors from all walks of life.

One of the most impressive things about The Autry Museum is its vast collection of artifacts and artworks that span over 500 years of Western history. From Native American pottery to cowboy boots worn by Hollywood stars like John Wayne and Roy Rogers - there's something here for everyone. The museum also has an extensive collection of firearms from different eras which are sure to fascinate gun enthusiasts.

In addition to its permanent collections, The Autry Museum also hosts several temporary exhibitions throughout the year which showcase different aspects of Western culture such as art exhibits featuring contemporary artists or historical displays highlighting important events or figures from Western history.

But what really sets The Autry apart from other museums is its commitment to education and outreach. Through various programs such as school tours, workshops for teachers or community events - they strive not only educate but also inspire people young and old alike about our shared past so we can build a better future together.

The museum's educational outreach program includes partnerships with local schools where students can learn about Western history through hands-on activities like making adobe bricks or learning how cowboys used lassos in their daily work on ranches across America's frontier lands.

Another unique aspect of The Autry Museum is its focus on Native American cultures which are often overlooked in traditional museums dedicated solely towards western expansionism narratives. Here at this institution though you will find exhibits showcasing indigenous art forms such as basket weaving techniques passed down through generations along with interactive displays exploring tribal histories & traditions still practiced today across North America’s Indigenous communities

Overall if you're looking for an immersive experience into one-of-a-kind cultural heritage then look no further than visiting "The Autry"! With so much rich content available both online & offline there’s no excuse not explore everything this amazing institution has offer!
