This YMCA is one of the newer ones in the area. The front desk staff is friendly and helpful. Full disclosure, I used to work here several years ago as a group fitness trainer. During that time, the YMCA was switching directors and starting to lay out a vision for the future.
It appears they are starting to see that vision. In the fitness center (the "gym") there are several rows of treadmills, ellipticals, and various types of exercise bikes which are centered around several large TV's. Right past them are two rowing machines.
As you journey toward the back of the center, there are about 12 or so weight machines and an assisted pull up machine. In the middle of the weight area is a half-walled area with some mats for stretching and other exercises, such as crunches or pushups.
Beyond that, are two racks of dumbbells ranging from 5 pounds all the way up to 100 pounds. Honestly, there were about 5 of us in there waiting our turn for the lighter dumbbells (15-35 pound range) and nobody using the heavier (80-100 pound range). It might be worth their while to get another rack of lighter dumbbells.
There are also the typical squat racks, benches, and plated machines. The equipment is all well maintained.
What was really nice were some of the new additions I saw. There were some boxes (for box jumps), two new pull-up bars, two TRX setups, and a punching bag. All new stuff that is usable for newer fitness trends. Very nice addition!
Finally, in the back there is a cycling studio where "spinning" style classes are taught, which can be used when no classes are in session.
My only cons are centered around the price. In the day of $10 Planet Fitness centers, paying for the YMCA is expensive. A family membership can run about $75 / month (although, assistance is available). While you should understand that there is more at the YMCA than a gym (there are camps, sports, classes, events, etc.) most of the extras have an additional cost associated with them.
To remain competitive, having maybe a $10-$15 / month option for gym only access would be great.
