The Jaffa Gate or "David s Gate", is one of eight gates in the Old City of Jerusalem, at first it may seem like a very old stone gateway but beside of the history hidden behind the stones it is the gateway to the magnificent Old City of Jerusalem.
Usually around this area are a lot of tourist , so you'll never really feel alone, and as small unwritten tradition in Jerusalem you can but "Begalle" there ,Round crispy bagels and don't you forget to ask the merchant for "Zatar" the local spice , it is meant to be eaten together .

The Jaffa Gate is one of the eight gates in the city wall that lead to the Old City of Jerusalem.
The name derives as the Damascus Gate from the Jerusalem connecting Jaffa Street, which leaves here as Jaffa Street the Old Town. The Crusaders knew the Jaffa Gate as "David's Gate". Meanwhile, the New Gate is closer to Jaffa Street. The Arabic name of the gate refers to the way to Bethlehem and further to Hebron (Arabic al-Chal l) reference, which also begins at this gate.
Contrary to a widespread anecdote, on the occasion of the visit of the German Emperor Wilhelm II in the then Ottoman Empire no breach was struck beside the gate in the Jerusalem city wall. It was then filled in only the ditch between the gate and the citadel, to allow easier access to the old town. The Emperor rode on October 29, 1898 on a white horse through this new opening, which is still one of the most important access roads for motor transport.
British General Allenby, on the other hand, dismounted when he entered the city on December 9, 1917, as pilgrims had for centuries.

Very historical, ancient, crusaders, biblical type feel. You feel like you're crossing a door in to history (as you cross in to the old City). Or like you're going on a pilgrimage. Which you likely will be (doing) at the moment you step through it. You kind of feel the energy of many thousands who've done so before you.
