Looking for a worthwhile arts experience? Artspace is a great place to start. Each year they show a diverse group of mid-career and emerging artists in their beautiful gallery spaces in the historic Gunnery Building in Woolloomooloo.

A fantastic contemporary gallery. Two large rooms present engaging installation and media works, and a smaller side gallery is off interest. The works are installed professionally and the staff is friendly. I highly recommend a visit to Artspace if you're in Sydney.

Pretty small gallery with not much information of the exhibition but you can find everything online. The space is pretty quiet so if you like admiring art with lesser crowd this is the place to go to.

I was accompanying my husband to see something he was interested in.
It's a good thing that someone can have a space for a length of time to expose their art.
But I was not impressed with the 'warning signs' at the entrance, with coarse language on them, very rude and disrespectful. I don't think anyone would like to come across with such signs in a real scenario.

About Artspace Visual Arts Centre

Artspace Visual Arts Centre: A Hub of Creativity and Innovation

Artspace Visual Arts Centre is a dynamic and innovative organization that has been at the forefront of contemporary art in Australia for over three decades. Founded in 1983, Artspace has established itself as a leading institution for the promotion and development of contemporary visual arts, providing a platform for emerging and established artists to showcase their work.

Ever changing, ever challenging, Artspace is where audiences encounter the artists and the ideas of our times. The center's mission is to foster creativity, experimentation, critical thinking, and dialogue through exhibitions, residencies, public programs, publications, and other initiatives.

At Artspace Visual Arts Centre you will find an exciting range of exhibitions that showcase cutting-edge works by local and international artists. The center's curatorial team works closely with artists to develop exhibitions that challenge conventional notions of art-making while engaging with pressing social issues.

One of the unique features of Artspace is its residency program which provides opportunities for local and international artists to live and work on-site. This program allows artists to immerse themselves in Sydney's vibrant cultural scene while developing new projects or exploring new directions in their practice.

In addition to its exhibition program and residency program, Artspace offers a range of public programs including talks by visiting curators or scholars; workshops on various aspects of art-making; screenings; performances; guided tours; artist talks; symposia; publications etc. These programs are designed to engage audiences with contemporary art practices while fostering critical thinking about social issues.

Artspace also publishes an annual journal titled 'un Magazine' which features essays by leading writers on contemporary art as well as interviews with emerging or established artists. This publication provides a platform for critical discourse around current artistic practices both locally and internationally.

The center's commitment to innovation extends beyond its programming into its physical space which was recently renovated by renowned architect Alec Tzannes. The new design incorporates flexible spaces that can be adapted according to different exhibition requirements while maintaining the integrity of the original heritage building.

Overall, if you are looking for an institution that fosters creativity through experimentation while engaging with pressing social issues then look no further than Artspace Visual Art Centre! With its exciting range of exhibitions showcasing cutting-edge works by local & international artist along with residency programs & public events like workshops & symposiums - there really is something here for everyone!
