Great place for a picnic and a day getaway for the hassle and bustle of the city life.
Amazing views and good hiking. Biking is fun too but some hills are hard to climb. The ferry schedule is the only reason this wasn't a 5 for me, we were waiting for over an hour after renting bikes because the island shops close at 3, but the last ferry our is after 4
The truth is to take pictures of the views (if you're lucky and there's no fog), but not beyond. I can pass without going to see her.
Had a very good time with friends. We took the earliest ferry, went to immigration center, got to the top of the hill, had lunch and was able to make the 3pm ferry on time.
What a beautiful national park, and a great place to get pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge, and downtown San Francisco. The History of the island told by the guides, is a must for all the History buffs. :)
Great island to spend a day hiking. Great nature and stunning views of the Bay Area
Perfect hiking say for a family! Spend some time together!
Lots of great hiking and historical sites. Fun gift shop and wonderful cafe. The ferry ride was cool, be prepared for a work out unless you take a driven tour.
Clean, open, and beautiful! Definitely a place to visit when you come to the Bay. Lots of trails.
Great views of the City, Golden gate bridge and environs. Decent hiking.
Park ranger are always there on the weekend to greet the guests coming off the ferry
360 views of everything you want to see in the area! The hike on angel Island is the most underrated thing to do in San Fran in my opinion!
I love to hike, so that was my main reason for heading to the island. I hiked up to the highest point--Mt. Livermore via the north ridge trail and down the sunset trail. In my opinion the north ridge trail is steeper/harder but has more continuous open beautiful views, where as the sunset trail felt longer with a much easier grade and had more tree covered views but specifically had beautiful views of the golden gate bridge. I would recommend doing the route I did.
I bought my bike over (both ferries I took had bike racks). I locked my bike up at the bike rack in the cove I arrived at while I hiked. I rode my bike around the islands perimeter path to visit the immigration building. It was very cool to learn about the history. It truly is the "Ellis Island" of the west.
I took the blue and gold ferry from San Francisco Pier 41 to Angel Island (bought my ticket at pier 39 office, cost about $9 usd). The ferry ride gave beautiful views of the bay bridge, San Fran skyline, Alcatraz Island, and the golden gate bridge. I took the Tiburon ferry from Alcatraz Island to Tiburon (bought my ticket on the Ferry, cost $7 usd--had to pay cash). The ferry ride gave beautiful views of Tiburon, Sausalito, and the Marin Headlands area... did this ferry route so I could bike through marin headlands and over the golden gate bridge back to San Fran--well worth it!
Excellent except for covid 19 takes an HR a ferry and only holds 100 people at a time
A really nice place to wander around and learn history.
Beautiful California State Park with a 360-degree view of the Bay, accessible by ferry or sailboat. 4.5 miles of well-maintained trails to the summit and around the island, 5ish-mile paved path around the island (walking or biking), historical sites (immigration station, military installation, batteries), campgrounds (reservations needed), and a picnic/grill area. There might also be segway rentals and a tram tour. The park has water, real bathrooms, and food/drinks available (food/drinks may be seasonal). Only a few ferries each way each day, so plan ahead.
A good short half day trip from san francisco. The views are amazing. A must do!
Beautiful setting. You feel in a whole different world. Plus great city views if you walk around to the other side of the island.
You can hike the trail with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge and the ocean. The view from Summit of Mt. Livermore is amazing. It's nice to spend some time at the picnic tables there. You can also see the steep sloped streets of San Francisco lined up. It's wonderful to see the variety of plants and flowers on the island.
Sandwiches are available in the cafe on the island.
What a great way to spend a day! Incredible views and super hiking trails.
It is an interesting historical place, but it does not have a great attraction, I would not repeat it, your visit is expensive for what you see and enjoy.
Cool photos and summit but the attractions weren't that exciting.
This is the island you go to in the Bay if you want to chill, picnic, and go take a hike. Would go here all the time when growing up with friends.
Camped overnight got to watch the sun rise and set over the city and Golden Gate Bridge
Great park to visit - but was frustrated by the rather early time the last ship leaves from the harbor to return to the mainland. If you want a decent time over on the island you better wake up early and get a head start.
Unique views of San Francisco and golden gate. Worth a trip if you re into hiking, camping, history, etc. Also, the frito pies are super good at the little cafe. Check them out.
Has an amazing bike trail all around the island and great beaches.
Great hikes, great views right in the heart of the Bay Area
Great place to hike and for views of the city on a clear day
A quiet place to have a walk in nature - without having to go anywhere from SF.
One of the best state parks to visit in the Bay Area. Pack a picnic and explore the trails and take some time to learn about the history of US immigration law, local flora and fauna, and more.
Great experience. Well organized. I only gave it 4 star because the bathrooms should be cleaner. Something I would expect after the 7th inning stretch at a ball park or an amusement park.
They really made this into a great recreational attraction
Mooring field is super shallow at zero or minus tides. Check your tide table before visiting in a boat. Cool cafe, campgrounds with 6 month wait list. Day trips are the best.
Go! Go for a whole a day! Hiking is amazing history is better. Best kept secret of SF.
Nice SF view. I visited the island as part of a tour. Not recommended if you wish to have a hike there. I might come back if I find better hiking options.
Ferry ride historic buildings, Canon firing on some weekends, beautiful view from the top of mountain
Very charming island with interesting landmarks and history. The tram guides are very good if you don't want to spend too much time.
Great place to go on a hike with SF and Bay bridge views.
Beautiful place, wonderful views. Was a great experience
Really enjoyed my first visit to Angel Island. Tons of great trails and nature to experience along with some epic views of San Francisco and the East Bay. Ferry ride from San Francisco's pier 41 takes about 30 minutes and its beautiful with some excellent views of Alcatraz. Bike rentals on the island and lots of water stations to fill up your canteen.
its nice for walking but the birds poo every where. at the lunch tables
What a beautiful spot to dock or moor your boat for some lunch. It is always protected in the cove.
We took a tram tour around the island and we were amazed at the rich history of the place. We had an excellent tour guide who was clearly so passionate about the park and added his own knowledge to the prerecorded tour playing through the trams speakers. The prerecorded tour was clearly outdated so it was great to have the ranger supplement this with his interesting stories and facts. The park itself is stunning, especially on a clear day when you have fabulous views of the San Francisco sky line and the Golden Gate Bridge. Definitely worth a visit, if you're either a tourist or a local.
Super, super pretty views of the bay; and cool abandoned buildings to boot!
From start to finish it was a fantastic day.
The ferry ride is so quick with breathtaking views. The staff is so friendly and I really appreciated the safety protocols due to covid. Due to social distancing there are a lot less people on the ferry. Hand sanitizer as you get on and off the ferry. Masks to be kept on the whole ferry ride, and keep to your own group.
As someone who has continued to be cautious during this time, I felt very comfortable and was able to social distance the whole trip.
Gorgeous and lots of history to be experienced. Deer and dumpster diving racoons. Gorgeous views of the bay, Bay Bridge, Golden Gate Bridge, and San Francisco.
Just went there because Alcatraz was no longer a solo ticket .... but we were surprised: Super beautiful and green island with a historical background
A great place to watch the firework for San Francisco!!!!
It is an island near Alcatraz Island. You can take the full tour, S.Francisco / Alcatraz / Island of Angels. It is an island where you can eat, a little gift shop, a cable car ride to the top of the island with a beautiful view. It has buildings from a village of ancient times. Interesting.
Great place for hikes and history. A ferry trip there adds to the fun, especially for kids.
Even in thick fog and drizzle the woods and open lands are magical
Like many people we only went bc our Alcatraz package included it. It was INCREDIBLE. Beautiful views and landscape. The landing area had a cute restaurant with good food. We took a tram tour of the island and passed a lot of hikers and people picnicking. We'd never heard of it before arriving and my whole group can't say enough good things. Definitely worth the trip out.
It's fantastic roger be able to wander about I countryside after a boat ride.
Perfect spot for an afternoon trip. Great hiking, picnic spots, and iconic views of the bay and San Francisco. Bring a camera, sunscreen, and lunch!
Great place to hike or bike on the weekend. You can take a ferry out of Tiburon. The ferry allows bikes, so you can bring your own. Or you can rent bikes on the island, but it can be a little bit of a wait because a lot of people are trying to rent bikes. Go early in the morning for hiking or biking. It's also a good idea to head back early, since the later ferries can be full. Get food at the little cafe before you leave the island.
Its very cool how you hike to to see such old and intresting things i have been 4
Times must go again
Historically fascinating and peaceful to walk the Perimeter Rd.
Angel island is a wonderful state park just a short ferry ride from fisherman's wharf. The eastern side of the island is shielded from the wind and is perfect for hiking in the hills or sitting on the beach!
A great easy-paced day hike smack dab in the middle of the bay with spectacular views in all directions.
The island is rich in history, including the sobering reminders of our country's darker times of years past.
The only downside to an Angel Island visit is the inevitable last-minute rush to make it to the departing ferry. I have no idea what happens when one misses the last ferry off the island.
Such a beautiful place, with a complex but largely positive history
A lovely place with panoramic views of the Bay & Golden Gate bridge from the top of Mt.Livermore - a mellow hike which takes about 2 hours round-trip. Picnic tables with excellent views along the way. The cafe on the island is closed due to Covid restrictions. The island has maps and clean restrooms near the ferry dock.
