This building, constructed in 1860, sits near the site of, and was built to replace, Wilton's Second Meetinghouse (c.1773, which replaced Wiltons original meetinghouse, a log structure from 1752) The Second Meetinghouse was burned to the ground in December of 1859. Then known as "the Town House" it served Wilton as its town hall for only a few years before it was decided to remove the seat of town government to the East Village, near the river and railroads. It was sold in 1884 to a group of interested citizens and renamed "Citizens Hall." It served for many years as a public meeting hall, and was taken over by the Advanced Grange organisation in 1925 which used it for their meetings, and then by the Wilton Lions Club in 1968. The Pine Hill Waldorf School bought the building in 1978 and for several years ran a school on the site. It was finally sold to Andy's Summer Playhouse in August 11, 1985. The original 1832 Revere & Sons bell from the Second Meetinghouse was recast after the fire by Henry N. Hooper & Sons of Boston, and remains today in the building's steeple.
