Great museum. We utilized one of the private cove...
Great museum. We utilized one of the private covered picnic spits and then hiked to the top on the path to catch all the great views.

Nice place. Cool ruins. However, there's so much space between interesting sights that you'll need days to see them.
Wonderful place with a lot of great information! Cant wait to back here.
We listened to the historian there he was knowledgeable and lively. The displays we well put together and some interactive
Great place! A lot of history about our area, the Native Tribes & farming. Staff members are knowledgeable & helpful.. A must see if your in the area! ..... You can even walk up an outdoor trail & visit a current dig site.
Incredible experience! Our family learned so much and they had tons of kid activities.
Museum was closed because of the Christmas holiday. However the place is great
Very knowledgeable volunteers. Folks are very informative
The staff was very helpful, and happy to answer questions. The visitor center is well-kept, and houses a small museum dedicated to the sites that comprise the monument. The ruins of Escalante Pueblo are on the grounds of the visitor center as well, which greatly adds to the appeal of stopping at the center. Well worth a visit.
We visited Sand canyon here was wonderful visit there are three other parts here including including hovenweep
Staff was knowledgeable and helpful. I was impressed by how big the place was and how much was on display. There is also a nice, paved trail with a beautiful lookout point.
Great place to see many of the artifacts from the local Peublo villages nearby.... Dating from 9 to 13th centuries.... Nice theater, enjoy the movie
So much history to see! A great timeline of the area and 4 corners.
The museum is super cool. A hidden gem in southwest Colorado.
Come here before trying to see the Canyon of the Ancients. A great resource with lots of information
Absolutely loved this place. Lots of information and things to see and do.
This museum has great displays with many children friendly ones. Selection of two films to watch in the theater and many audio-visual educational displays in the main museum. The artifacts were excavated when McPhee Reservoir (next to it) was built. Be sure to take the 1/2 mile walk to Escalante Pueblo behind the Center (see photos) which is a paved trail with signs for native plants along the way.
And July worth the 3 bucks. Fun easy hike with great views
It was very interactive and helped me to better understand what life was like those thousands of years ago. I thought it strange though that it was kind of a museum for the local lumbar company that created a dam back in the day. I thought the museum should have been all about the Anasazi since the name of the center is the "Anasazi Heritage Center" but hey, what do I know?
Really enjoyed the museum and the trail to the Pueblo and reservoir overlook. The trail is paved nicely so it is handicapped accessible with a slight incline.
One of the nicest visitors center we have ever been to. Great help.
Very educational And humbling to learn how hard these people worked and how artistic they were in their weaving and pottery.
Only visited the outside as it was closed due to Covid-19. View was beautiful, very peaceful.
Great museum and interesting area. Just be aware the sites are spread out over a large area mostly farmland with gravel roads.
Very knowledgeable staff presiding over a very impressive collection of artifacts.
Really enjoyed this little museum. Very informative
Well presented display of Anasazi articles and modern archaeological techniques. Worth a visit to gain an orientation of the areas hiztoy and sites.
So much to see and explorr in the museum and paved hiking trail to ruins overlooking expansive reservoir
Roadside attraction. If you are driving by give it a try.
This is a great visitor's center, full of interactive exhibits, useful information, and fascinating artifacts. I especially loved the recreation of a pit house that you could see from above and at ground level, which includes a replica of a cross-section of an undisturbed dig site.
There are also great activities for kids (and--let's be honest--adults too) like grinding corn, examining artifacts under microscopes, and weaving, etc. There are also 2 small, partially-reconstructed ruins on-site.
I loved watching the orientation films and walking around the museum. I'm so glad that it is being preserved for future generations...
This is a good place to start. The museum was good and the staff was extremely polite and helpful.
The 2 videos are not that interesting. They give very little information about the Anasazi or Pueblo Indians or their culture. It's really more of a Politically Correct BS video about not taking any artifacts, which you shouldn't do anyhow.
The museum is worth spending some time in. The exhibits show the different eras of the people who inhabited the area.
Well maintained center to preserve Native American heritage. A beautiful display of the history and theater to show the sacred land & people.
Excellent little museum and interpretive center staffed by knowledgeable and friendly people
A reasonable tourist location to see and read about America's native people, their fwellings and how they lived.
Anasazi ruins around every turn, without the crowds of Mesa Verde.
Beautiful museum with a few ancient ruins nearby and some great overlooks. Very helpful staff
LOTS of historical info. Allow 2 hours if you want to read each display.
Lots of great artifacts and exhibits. Very informative. It was worth the visit. Plus, they have a couple archeological sites on premise
This place concentrates on anistasi and basket maker culture of this particular area of the Southwest. Super presentation of artifacts and very knowledgeable staff to answer questions .
This is a great exhibit of the Anasazi culture. Climb to the top of the hill to see the ruins. See the film's and displays inside to get a real idea of their culture.
This a comprehensive presentation of the history of the civilization in southwest Colorado. Well documented preservation of the extensive pueblos in the area dating to around 4 AD but great detail of the 900 to 1300 AD era.
Neat little history spot. Well maintained paved hiking trails.
Excellent displays of Ancestral Puebloan artifacts. Easy trail behind the museum up to Escalante Ruins. The view from there is truly magnificent! Well worth spending a few hours to see the museum and views.
This speaks volumes about ancient peoples. I believe that they were much smarter than today's people.
A nice simple pleasant hiking trail. Extremely beautiful and teeming with wildlife.
Beautiful visitor center with outstanding exhibits.
This is a BLM national Park. There is a lot of land to cover. If you like hiking, this is a must stop to talk to a ranger. They give all the best hiking spots. The museum was fascinating!
Outstanding museum of Anasazi history of the area as well as families who settled in the area and many artifacts.
Very informative Welcome Center. Lots of exhibits to enjoy.
A great place. Very well done with one small ruin right on the grounds and another along a very well paved trail about 1/2 mile away.
These National Parks are just beautiful and words just don't do them justice. Mine at least. If you haven't been, please take the time to enjoy.
Great place to visit. The short movie was very informative..
This place has beautiful artifacts on display along with a full size replica of a pit house. Air conditioned so that's nice as it was a bit warm the day I visited. Very fairly priced. I was not in the mood for a hike so I didn't see any actual dwellings. I was a bit disappointed in the focus which seemed to be more on the aclrcheologists than the indigenous people. Otherwise I give it 3 stars for such beautiful artifacts.
Very informative museum! I could spend hours here If I didn't need to be somewhere else today.
Family friendly place. Fun place! Informative! Peaceful
Nice museum on the native peoples of the region. The pueblo hike attached to the museum is also good.
A truly great museum! Their collection of Anasazi artifacts and displays are tops!
Beautiful exhibits and friendly staff. A short easy one mile round trip hike up the hill leads to a ruin and a fantastic overlook towards mountains, Mesa Verde, Sleeping Ute and the McPhee reservoir.
Beautiful place, well done. Accurate and friendly folks and volunteers.
We really enjoyed this visitor center. They have so many hands on things to do here for the kids and a great amount of information. The people there were very helpful when it came to planning our day. Well worth the visit.
Lovely staff and great museum. Helpful suggestions about alternative Pueblo ruins walk at sand canyon. Cheers!
In my experience second only to Yosemite in natural beauty. And way better with it being wide open, camping, hiking, sitting, Wonderful! Can't recommend high enough. The spacious grandeur! Amazing!
Very neet to see. Was fun to learn about history, kids loved it.
The visitors center was pretty cool. Very informative park rangers and neat displays. Not a lot to do otherwise especially off season unless you are a serious hiker. They tend to discourage vehicular travel to most sights because of residential areas you must go through. It was a pretty nice drive through it down road G from Cortez to Hovenweep National Monument. Well worth visiting if you are going to Mesa Verde and/or Hovenweep anyway. Hopefully during the summer you will have a more positive experience than we did in March.
This was actually a very nice visitor center. We stopped here on the way to Mesa Verde. The people who work here are super knowledgeable and love telling you about the history of the area and what's going on. There's a small museum with various galleries on how people lived in the pueblos.
