Have stayed in shangri-la hotels before and never have i been treated so bad. I was made to feel like a leper cause i wanted to pay cash. We stayed the first night and paid already on coming back to our room after our walk we had been locked out as apparently the night before the reception staff did not take a bond. On talking to reception staff we were told that they want $400 bond for next night stay. Then told we can pay $100 if on credit card. Then told $200. The person on reception just laughed. I asked to go back into my room and he said bond first. I told him we will be leaving as soon as i got my things. I will never stay at another shangri la hotel ever. The staff in Sydney need a good shake up. How is it the customer fault when a staff member makes a mistake.

This is our 2nd stay at the Shangri-La Sydney and both stay has been excellent from the room we had which had an amazing view of the harbor bridge and Sydney opera house to the lounge area where all staff were very polite, helpful and nice especially thanks to Francesca and the supervisor Sheikh. Will definitely be back again very soon thanks to all the staff !

We had an amazing stay in a Harbour View Suite.

The staff in the lounge were all so friendly and helpful - especially Sheikh, Jane and Walter. They really made our stay. There were no buffets in the lounge. Instead food was brought to you, but we were regularly asked if we would like more. From Sunday afternoon to Saturday morning the lounge is moved to a small corner of the restaurant but I understand the number of horizon club visitors are quite small during the week.

The hotel felt very safe - temperature checks when you enter the hotel, all staff wearing masks and constant cleaning. All towels and bathrobes were wrapped in plastic.

We would definitely stay again.

Check-in was great. The view from the room was one of the best I ever had!! Simply amazing! The bed was super comfy and the bathroom was well appointed.
The elevators in the hotel were somehow limited and long waiting times after check in. The breakfast was rather poor, considering Shangri-La. Not having fresh squeezed orange juice and very little variety of fresh fruits, every day the same choices ....disappointing for this level of hotel chain. My toilet was not flushing well, this continued even after reporting :( The Service in the bar 36 was also disappointing for Shangri La, being told that there is no table service but we have to order at the counter:(
Overall, the location cannot be topped but this is not a benefit to the hotel overall experience.

I have stayed at a number of hotel chains in Australia and believe the Shangri-La Sydney is one of the best I have stayed in. The room was modern and well serviced. There is nothing that I can add for you to improve it was a great pleasure staying in your hotel.

This was our 24th wedding anniversary and we truly enjoyed the experience of your hotel.

I came to check into the hotel and was given a twin room. I advised that I needed a King size bed. The lady advised no rooms available all booked out. 1 hour later I went online to check and found king size beds rooms available. I went up to reception to advise of my disappointment I couldn t believe I was lied to. Why would you lie to a paying customer???
I then went online to send an email about my experience and did not hear back from anyone. I later received a review email and rated it with my experience and still no explanation from the hotel. The service was absolutely shocking and now I m absolutely outraged that my feedback has not been acknowledged. Poor staffing, poor rooms, awful!

From before I even arrived, there were issues that were easily avoidable. A lack of meaningful follow up once the room booking was confirmed left me frustrated and having to contact the Hotel myself to get more information about the extra services I had requested. Not difficult stuff, but clearly there has been no customer journey mapping carried out on the booking process. Upon arrival, it got worse. Our room wasn't ready (which was OK), so we were told that if we sat in the lounge area we would be called when the room was ready. We sat for 40 minutes before having to leave for a lunch booking, then a play at the Opera House. By the time I returned 7 hours later, I still hadn't been called to confirm that my room was ready. We had also left our bags to be taken to the room, with a request that the birthday champagne was put in the fridge. When we finally got to our room, there was no sign of the bags and no champagne in the fridge. A call to reception eventually produced the bags and a mumbled apology about the bubbly. Not what you expect from a hotel of this calibre. By contrast, the room and the view were spectacular and it was a shame that the lack of proper process management and clear need for improved staff training had failed to meet the standards you would expect from such a hotel. In the Horizon club lounge we received another shock: we were told by reception that it was open until 9pm, but when we got there at 7.45pm, we were informed that it closed at 8pm. Fortunately for the hotel, the head bar man heard our story and arranged for a bottle of bubbles to be sent to our room. However, later that evening, in the Blu bar, it got worse - much worse. We waited over 20 minutes for service at the bar - it wasn't even very busy. The staff were too busy arguing amongst themselves to know in which order customers were arriving at the bar. Their solution? A pathetic "who's next" - something you would expect from a backstreet bar and not a "luxury" hotel experience. We left the bar and mentioned our frustrations to the staff member at the entrance, who promptly showed us to the lounge area and a table near the window - again, the lack of proper management supervision and processes was rescued by an intelligent and customer focused member of staff. This small success was overridden again a mere 20 minutes later when we were asked to move from our window seats so a group of tourists could take some photos out of the window. Seriously? Fortunately, the group were too polite to take up the suggestion and moved to another (empty) window seat. It was starting to feel like Sydney's Fawlty Towers, without the comedy genius. The following day, we were at the Chi Spa for a treatment and this was a truly luxury experience. The staff and facilities were second to none, the processes smooth and efficient - clearly, a different management team with proper processes and decent training. I highly recommend the Chi Spa experience, followed by lunch in the Altitude restaurant - it truly was amazing and the views are every bit as good as you would expect. The final nail in the coffin of my experience with the Shangri-La's broken processes came the day after we checked out when I looked at my bank app and realised that they had taken an additional 2 unauthorised payments from my card, totalling nearly $1,000. A call to the hotel and the bank was required to get the ball rolling on retrieving my money. It left a bitter taste in the mouth, as it was unnecessary. If the Shangri-La had even half decent management, processes and staff training our experience would have been very different indeed. The Hotel itself is beautiful, with outstanding rooms and views to die for. Unfortunately, the reception, concierge and bar staff lack basic customer service skills, don't do what they promise and are clearly not supported by robust processes. Pity, because the views will only get you so far - you need to offer luxury customer service too.

The Shangri-La Hotel in Sydney Australia was built to near the historical Rock which is a 5 minute walk to the Harbor. If you're going to walk bring your athletic shoes and change into your evening shoes afterwards as the landscape has stairs and is a bit steep. However, the building is beautiful and boasts fantastic views of the Opera House and the Sydney Bridge over the Harbor and the view is hard to match in terms of it's beauty. The hotel is a very clean and well organized place with fantastic service. The food and service was also amazing.

the slowness of the hotel lifts is deplorable, the fact that as a guest In the hotel for 3 nights I was unable to get a drink in the blu bar without having to que for over 15 minutes, I only bothered with that once, then when I tried to reserve a table In the lounge of the blu bar on Tuesday afternoon /evening for 5-15pm as that is when it opens for 3/4 of an hour via the reservations desk I was told no one can reserve a table as that is the "managements policy", then when i went to the lounge at 5.15 it was packed out with non hotel guests and I was told by the staff to que up again for a drink ( not enough staff serving the volume of patrons by the way), and get on a wait list as that is the "managements policy" so not what I would call welcoming towards paying guests of the hotel, this experience has not shown your hotel in a good light I 'm afraid.

Very comfortable and accommodating stay - our room had a great view of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House.

The location of the Shangri-La is great - you're literally less than 5 minutes away from the Rocks and all the shops on George Street.

During peak holiday seasons, room prices can rise exponentially though.

On our arrival where we checked in after 6pm we looked after by a lady who forgot to activate our key cards and we went upstairs to get in our room and the door would not open. we were exhausted from a long day at work looking forward to go and relax and my husband had to go downstairs to activate the cards while me and my 6 year old boy were waiting for half an hour upstairs
A few other little things happened and you do not want this things to happen when you pay so much money at a luxurious hotel

Our expereince as two friends attending the Ballet. Share twin room was upgraded and was amazing.
The view and the room location was supberb. Lived up to all the expectations and the staff were very helpful.
The room was better than any other hotel room in Sydney, I have stayed in before. We often travel to Sydney and
stay overnight or for a weekend to attend events in Sydney, having stayed at other 5 star hotels this was the best experience, the best room, the best view we have ever had. Thank you the whole experience was just luxury plus.

From the moment we arrived the service was fantastic! The door man, front reception made Check in very easy even though they were really busy.
The view from the bar on 36th floor was the best thing.... having a few drinks to eating dinner & breakfast at the restaurant. A simple egg option or pancakes for breakfast would have been nice, as I'm not a big eater.
Room service was late unfortunately on our last morning, but it still came with a smile and food was great.
The Gym was great, along with the pool - easy to use service.

Check out was easy, The lobby also needs a few simple options for snacks on that menu, However the Service was fantastic! Our first time in Sydney - not the best timing however a wonderful experience and we will return again in the future.

Amazing experience staying in a room with the horizon club benefits! The staff are so welcoming and attentive! We went for high tea in the afternoon and unfortunately wasn t any vegan options but we asked a lady and she made sure there was options for me at the evening drinks and canopes and personally catered for me - was just expecting 1 or 2 things but they really went to a lot of care! Very appreciative! Thank you so much for a great stay!!

Shangri-La has left us with a five-star and beyond feeling! We absolutely love staying at Shangri-La and were beyond excited to have stayed in The Presidential Suite prior to our wedding and for the following nights as newlyweds. The service from the reception, to housekeeping and wait staff is impeccable. Staff must have received excellent high standard training to be able to serve their guests exceptionally well. Shangri-La is definitely the best of the best!

Staff were warm, friendly and mindful of our experience in Sydney. What makes the Shangri-La exceptional is the diversity and professionalism of staff, happy smiles and that little bit extra in service to make sure everything is "just right" during our stay. The acknowledgment of my parents and their milestone birthdays was a particularly nice touch in Altitude Restaurant.

I chose the Shangri La Sydney as our hotel when I was planning on proposing to my partner, when we arrived we were upgraded, then we had another surprise of champagne and chocolates delivered to the room. All of these things happened whilst the hotel were preparing for HRH Prince Harry to check in. We felt as special as the the Royal couple. Every minute of our stay was far and above what I expected. Shangri La Sydney is a jewel. We can't wait to come back, we cannot thank you enough for adding to our special week end.

Must stay with access to club lounge as that made out stay! The service, food, drinks, breakfast and afternoon tea were amazing!
The rooms are big with great views either side, but get a higher room for better views.
Do not stay on the club level or stay at the back of that level (no views). We stayed in 3014 which was on club level and our front door was across the hall from the club lounge staff access. Super noisey when preparing for each service and the carpet had a strong odor, I had to hold my breath every time we left or entered our room.
The phones in the room were not working and the choice of tv channels was inadequate and cost of movies was ridiculous (these should be free for higher value rooms).

Always love Shangri la hotels. Have had bad experiences in the past - especially in Kota Kinabalu- terrible service there. Didn t visit the hotels until now. Very nice here in Sidney- just not the same as our favourite hotel in Kuala Lumpur. Did upgrade to Horizon, and well worth it. Lovely nibbles and good wine. Magnificent view from the lounge. Lifts were being upgraded, so had to wait for 10 minutes - any way - a great stay and overall really enjoyed our stay .
