They speak French all the time. Other schools use too much English in class
Great place offering great cultural activities. I am very grateful. I have attended many functions here and was never disappointed in the least. I am grateful.
It is a very long and not so easy ride to get there, but definitely worth the while.
Love this place! Always something to do and learn there!
I register my kid for a French course and we were not satisfied with the service. I asked for a refund and they said first it will be prorated and there is $50 fee.... The time passed and I did not receive the refund...So I wrote to them and they said it is too late we cannot refund you.
Awesome cultural Centre. Best place to learn French and French culture
If I could, I would give negative star. Beware!!! Registered my kids for summer program. Due to insufficient enrollment, program was cancelled last minute. The receptionist/administrator only refunded the course portion of fee and refused to refund administration fee despite the fact that they cancelled the program. I was told to contact the manager. I have left message and email but haven't heard from them.
Amazing French learning programs offered for kids and adults and the class sizes are small which is perfect for getting the most out of learning.
I attend the Mississauga location. I find Alliance Francaise has really helped me to cultivate my French and communicate in a more competent fashion. Many thanks to the institution and your teachers for the support.
Excellent teachers. Great atmosphere that encourages students to speak French at all times. Small classes.
I greatly look forward to my weekly classes. I always learn something new and have ample opportunity to practice French among new friends!
Taraneh is an amazing French teacher! She really helped improve my French!
Love this school, great teachers, lots of activities that can help practice the language. Highly recommend
Great place to learn French and to experience the culture
Talented, professional, dedicated teachers; friendly and helpful support staff; wide range of classes; great roster of cultural events; wonderful bookstore onsite; beautifully renovated building. Highly recommended!
I am a native speaker of French, so I cannot personally vouch for the quality of teaching. However, I have attended events during visits to Toronto and have found the Francophone cultural events quite enjoyable.
I love the Alliance Francaise, they really do prepare you very well! I wanted to go to one of the regular French classes at another school as I wanted to save money and the Alliance Francaise is far from where I live, but my husband advised me to go where they would really teach me as he went to the regular schools and he felt like he didn't learn enough. So I followed his advice and I don't regret it. I like that they have actual French teachers which helps because the best way to learn a language is from a native speaker. It is also a recognized school worldwide so that's a bonus. I could go on! I highly recommend it.
(Downtown Toronto Spadina campus)
The staff is polite and the school is probably good but...
The lady who did my placement test was incredibly rude and condescending. She had the air of patronizing superiority. The entire time she was scoffing, correcting me at every word and sighing. She was trying her best to show me that I was wasting her 'precious' time (even though later I ended up paying $10 for the "test"). It was so unprofessional. I also had the feeling that she was racist (wouldn't be suprised).
Disappointed.
I couldn't have asked for a better French class. There are multiple offerings with different frequencies. My instructor is fantastic - he genuinely cares about us learning French and teaches with great passion and effort.
In addition, they have a terrific French cultural program to add to the regular courses. For anyone interested in learning French, this will be a great choice.
they have some racist's teachers, and employees just so proud of their French, outsmart themselves by showing how "smart" they are on speaking french. courses are designed for robbing money, teachers are hired for making you register more courses, to ensure u cannot pass any exams.
I was steered to AF Toronto on a personal recommendation. The assessment exam (more like a chat in French as best you can manage) is conducted to establish your competency and advise on an appropriate course level.
Mine was done by a prof with integrity who was professional, competent and serious. I felt that she was focussed on determining my abilities so as to recommend a level that was in the best interest of my learning. This was a great help as I ve experienced courses where the learning of the group is brought down by someone whose level was mis-assessed, or because they opted to skip ahead.
I felt in such good hands with this prof during the assessment that I sought her out as a teacher. While studying with her I was engaged, supported and challenged and I improved a lot.
Because of this experience I can recommend the AF Toronto (downtown).
Loving learning French here!
I like to learn French there!
Spadina Campus.
So incredibly dependant on your teacher. If you get a good one, cling to them! If you get a bad one, run for les hills because you re not learning any French.
Amazing French learning place! I've had a such a good time while gaining knowledge of a new language. Stuff on the front desk - Super helpful. The teacher we had Super talented. Class size excellent, we had eight students in the class, and each one was interesting in its way. Many of class activities available too. The best place to learn French (for me) and meet new people.
One might think that I m working for AF, too many good comments :). I m only a happy customer/student, definitely will continue my French learning endeavor with AF.
Learning a new language later in life can often be quite difficult. However, at Alliance Francaise they have created an excellent structure and foundation classes to build your confidence and vocabulary. Jean Francois is an incredibly teacher. He's patient, knowledgable, and really knows how to teach French in a way that makes it both enjoyable and useful!
I studied here a long time ago. The classes were mediocre and the school didn t offer a good environment to practice the language either.
The good thing was that I was able to study in France for one month through the school. That was an unforgettable experience. I would recommend it to everyone!
I've really enjoyed learning with Alliance Francaise. My oral and listening comprehension have improved tremendously in the past few months. I don't live in Toronto so I appreciate the online courses that make it possible for me to attend classes and I hope they continue to offer these online sessions.
At level A2.3 so not very high level. Classes are small and comfortable with use of white boards and projectors. It would be nice to learn more per outing but I learn something new each day. The cost is also a bit high.
Charles K (took private courses with Jolanda from May to end of July).
During my first lesson with Jolanda, we discussed my learning goals and the areas in which I wanted to focus, and from then to the end of my course in July, each lesson was tailored exactly to my goals and desired areas of focus. Jolanda made sure to select texts and listening materials on subjects of interest to me, ensuring that I was engaged throughout the course.
In addition, the amount of progress I made during my course with Jolanda astounded me. I achieved all my learning goals and more by the end of July.
I really loved learning French here, the people are amazing, mercy beaucoup pour tout!
I found the lady to who did my speaking assessment to be rude. I also
I felt that she was correcting my mistakes pretty harsly (which when I trained as an ESL teacher I was specifically told not to do because it increases learner's anxiety about speaking the new language). They should probably try being less intimidating in their diagnostic if they want to encourage people to sign up for a course. They will also try to upsell a lot just FYI.
Phenomenal institution!!!!! I've been there for almost one year (two weeks until then from now) and it's unbelievable how quickly I've grasped the French language. The staff there is really customer service oriented and will do whatever possible to accommodate anyone's needs and the teachers do an amazing job at making sure the content you will be taught is well understood before moving on. I would definitely recommend this school to anyone wanting to learn French.
I have attended different schools in 27 years, for two other languages. This is the only school that is consistent, and has amazing teachers. They will go out of the way to help you every time. Absolutely fantastic! The best school I've ever studied at. They have a better system than University of Toronto! (And I took two languages.) I have never run across a teacher I wouldn't highly recommend, at the Alliance. You will find yourself looking forward to the classes, not dreading them like in University. It is well worth the money, as the classes are very quick when you have fun. ;)
I can vouch for the classes at AF. I used to attend classes years ago -- my French improved in such a short time that I was able to speak with Quebecers when I would travel to Que. I've started going again because I want to get back to where I was and improve my speaking and critical reading skills. It's the best choice I made. I've had such supportive teachers and made friends with students in the class Teachers know how to teach and care about the progression of the students. Really happy I discovered AF years ago.
