The service is perfectly adequate. Don't expect them to go the extra mile or anything but neither are they lazy or unreasonable.

Frank, my superhero helped me source materials, and appropriately "jerryrig" the home repair I needed to do. Huzzahs
Friendly and super helpful people. If what you want isn't in stock (super rare) theyll find a solution for you. Awesome hardware store.
Very safety savvy. I called ahead; detailed my request; waited outside store 10 mins; clerk retrieved my order & took it to the cashier; I entered the store & paid.
All workers wear masks & cashiers work behind shield.
Hooray. This is a great store that has served me and the Upper West Side community for over 40 years.
Happy Passover to Isreal & Tali and family.
I don t know what Lucas from an earlier review is talking about. The staff is overly helpful, they give great advice, and know where everything is in the store. Great long time, small business that is perfect for the Upper West Side.
Waited a week and a half for the coffee grinder to be delivered when upon opening on April 6th the coffee grinder does not operate does not work I go and make a phone call to the club recorded to bring it back on Columbus avenue New York City all I got was a refund that I'm still waiting for the corporate headquarters which takes a while plus emergence my credit card I have to wait 4 days before my money gets reloaded that's for experience that is bad I will never talk to you again
Received excellent service from this store,Thank You.
Convenient hardware store with a good selection of hardware. Prices are a bit high but it is Manhattan.
A credit to the neighborhood! Owner & his crew are true pros.
Often shop here, even when it was in a brownstone many decades ago. That it's family-run is a plus - their custom construction & lumber availability are useful in this neighborhood - and that it's a franchise for a national chain of hardware stores means that it's stock is usually up-to-date. Staff helpfulness varies - sometimes excellent, other times they're too busy to supply really good service. But all in all, a plus for the neighborhood.
Just called looking for a valve for my steam radiator. First guy who answers puts me on hold. Then a "Frank" gets on the phone, tells me I'm looking for an "air valve", I have no idea what he's talking about, he gets impatient and hangs up on me. Terrible customer service. Never going here.
Friendliest and most helpful hardware store on the UWS. Full selection at reasonable prices.
I was actually in disbelief with the topnotch service I received!
So used to the "non caring"attitudes from home depot.
Thanks for treating me well AJO Home and Lumber
Staff at Ace is doing a great job - line management, paint mixing, and getting things down from high shelves. I didn't know you could call ahead and have them prepare your order (which I recommend) but a visit in their store was well managed and socially distanced! They sell paint samples and gallons (~$40) at the same price as other hardware stores like Aquarius True Value, except they have a wider selection. Definitely call ahead to see if they have the base paint for the color you want. If you pay with cash, you can get a small discount too!
I went here to get some supplies, and at first one of the older gentlemen working there didn't have time for me. He got frustrated right away and spoke down to me, and then just threw one of the younger guys and he said very loud and clearly, "I have more important things to do." Then the younger guy who helped me was very nice but not knowledgable at all. He asked another older gentleman, and when I asked him about a piece of hardware that I didn't know the name, but I described it very well. He gave me a face and said speaking down to me, "that is called a hasp!" I go to a hardware store to get help with things I don't know. There is another hardware store a block away called Aquarius Hardware on Amsterdam between 89th & 90th. I regret I didn't go there. At Aquarius they are SO NICE AND HELPFUL. The older guys at AJO / Ace are rude and don't give a $hit.
Employees are super helpful and nice. Problem solvers.
Only place I know of in neighborhood to get lumber cut to order.
Very helpful staff, always find what I'm looking for here!
Great place for Benjamin Moore paint and hardware. The people at the store are very helpful.
The people who work here are the actual worst. Most of them are sitting around doing nothing, but God forbid you inconvenience them by having a question or needing them to do their job. Absolutely no concept of customer service and treat you like you are the dumbest customer they ve had all day.
The best hardware store on the upper west side. Extremely professional and friendly.
Rude and way overpriced. I needed legs of a crib shortened. "Izzy" quoted me $40 for the job and when I told him that seemed expensive he was extremely rude and said "let's see how you do on your own!"
I went to Mike's Lumber 2 blocks away and they politely took care of me on the spot for $8.
Save your money, time, and have a good experience by going to mikes lumber instead of these jokers.
This is the best hardware and lumber place in the neighborhood! Good selection for a store this size, and lots of helpful people working there.
Searching for old-fashioned lamp bulbs; Ajo employee went through various pros and cons with me until I made my choice., End result saved me $60, I have shopped there for 40 years because of their unusually dedicated, staff and their large merchandise selection!
Plenty to choose from but they re my last option for a hardware store due to staff customer service.
Great selection. One of the few places in manhattan that will cut wood boards. At $1 a cut, I ll be back for my future projects
I've lived across the street from this place for 6 years and I still can't say when this place is open. It's locked up and closed most times I stop by, even in the middle of the day. Just stopped by at 4 pm on a Saturday and of course, closed.
Meanwhile, the people who work there are surly as hell. Save yourself some hassle and money and go to the true value on 90th and amsterdam.
Ajo and its staff have kept me well stocked during these past few months of the quarantine. They are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. I've had a number of home projects to manage, and being absolutely unskilled at any of it, it was nice to have their expert opinion. I received guidance without condescension, which I appreciated the most.
Highly recommend!
They have what you need at this location. The prices are ridiculous, but so is the overhead. The prices are in line with the neighborhood.
I was very satisfied with the service and the prices they offer. The workers are very friendly and professional.
When everyone else nearby doesn't have it, AJO does. Great hardware store and really helpful, nice and knowledgeable staff.
Reach choice and low prices. The stuff is incredibly polite and helpful!
Good place for home essentials and DIY home improvement
Horrible customer service. Rude staff. Poor selection. I spent an hour trying to pick up supplies for a simple shelf-building project and became so frustrated, I stormed out in mid conversation with a manager with nothing. If have DIY projects, avoid this store at all costs.
I LOVE AJO. The service and caring at this hardware and home store is unsurpassed! I uploaded a photo of this hand sanitizer to pictorially show their great customer service. I LOVE their manager, Tali. I came in and we were talking about the current situation. I was complaining about hand sanitizers. She shows me what she is using, gives me squirt of her own private sample and makes me feel special, cared for and understood. I purchased the product below because of her great customer service. I love the product, I love the customer service at AJO and I love AJO!
Very helpful and patient staff. Frank, one of the in-store experts may be one of the most helpful hardware store employees I've ever met. He helped me accomplish several uncommon cuts on some PVC parts with which I was working. He seemed genuinely interested in making sure my project went well.
Some of the guys are very helpful where as others look and act like you just kicked their mum when asked for assistance. Maybe their focus is more trade clients?
Don't shop here!!!!! Manager (Yzzak?) is shockingly rude and unhelpful. Called ahead to ask if we could buy and cut a piece of wood. 2 min job. They said yes. Took the bus 20 mins to get there and when we did, Yzzak said "carpenter is gone." Asked if he or another employee could cut the wood. Yzzak said "no, I don't cut. I don't want to." No explanation. No apology. No attempt to make it right. And laughed about it. Unbelievable...
Being new to the neighborhood, I needed to get a key copied and some advice on a few things. I found the staff to be very helpful and they were able to get me what I needed and on my way within just a few minutes. It felt like my neighborhood Ace from the minute I walked in the door.
