Had a wonderful day at this very well organized event. With such a large crowd and a great atmosphere, it is very nice that there is really room to commemorate and be grateful for our freedom. And you just want to go for a walk, of course

About Airborne Wandeltocht / Airborne March

Welcome to Airborne Wandeltocht, the world's largest one-day memorial walk. This event is held annually in September in Oosterbeek, Netherlands, and attracts thousands of participants from all over the world. The Airborne Wandeltocht is a tribute to the soldiers who fought and died during World War II's Battle of Arnhem.

The history of this event dates back to 1947 when a group of Dutch citizens organized a march to commemorate the British and Polish soldiers who lost their lives during Operation Market Garden. The first edition had only 48 participants, but it has grown significantly over the years.

Today, Airborne Wandeltocht is an international event that brings together people from different countries and cultures to honor those who sacrificed their lives for freedom. The walk covers a distance of 10 kilometers or 15 kilometers through beautiful landscapes that were once battlefields.

Apart from being a memorial walk, Airborne Wandeltocht also raises funds for various charities that support veterans and their families. Over the years, this event has raised millions of euros for organizations such as Help for Heroes and Combat Stress.

Airborne Wandeltocht is not just about walking; it's also about experiencing history firsthand. Participants get to visit historical sites such as the John Frost Bridge (also known as Arnhem Bridge), where one of the most significant battles took place during World War II. They can also explore museums such as Airborne Museum Hartenstein or attend lectures by historians who specialize in this period.

If you're planning on participating in Airborne Wandeltocht, there are several things you need to know beforehand. First and foremost, make sure you register early because spots fill up quickly! You can register online via their website or at designated locations throughout Oosterbeek.

Secondly, prepare yourself physically because walking 10-15 kilometers can be challenging if you're not used to it. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes and clothing suitable for outdoor activities.

Lastly, don't forget your camera! You'll want to capture every moment of this unique experience so that you can share it with your friends and family back home.

In conclusion, if you're looking for an unforgettable way to pay tribute to those who fought for our freedom during World War II while supporting veterans' charities at the same time – then look no further than Airborne Wandeltocht! Join thousands of other walkers from around the world on this incredible journey through history – we promise it will be an experience like no other!
