This is a community space. It's a 3 acre farm in Brooklyn. It is also the largest composting site in the U.S that processes it's materials with 100 percent renewable resources. Solar power, wind power, and last but not least man power. It is a beautiful place.
Farm stands on Saturdays & cooking demonstrations! I love this place
Volunteered with Added Value Farms (now Red Hook Farms) for almost two years, from August 2015 to May 2017. Amazing project lead by a great team providing opportunities for youth, healthy food for the community, and showcasing how renewable resources can be used in urban environments. If you re interested in getting involved, check out the New York Cares website for volunteer projects at Red Hook Community Farms. I can t recommend this project enough!
Cool idea. The garden is a shared community garden and a nice green space in Red Hook. Nothing exciting was growing when we went by, but it looked like a nice place for neighbors to meet up and be a little more self sufficient.
Impressive organic operation feeding people in need healthy food. Great opportunity to get your hands dirty and volunteer.
Wonderful organization growing fresh vegetables for the less fortunate, while running a CSA, employing local youngsters, etc. Great volunteer opportunities too.
I am not a farm life girl at all! I seriously could care less about recycling! But after a trip to the red hook farm, I can honestly say that has changed! Im still not a farm loving kind of girl but what an impact this place has made on me! The supervisor of the farm gave a class on composting (theory and practice ) and what we can each do to create change!!!!!! There was absolutely no smell! This place was spot on clean to the T. ( FYI I m a hard critic, impressing me takes work) AND I WAS IMPRESSED !!!!!!!!!!! What an amazing opportunity to be consumed with so much information on how to support our earth and future! Hands down a TRIP EVERY NEW YORKER needs to take!
