It's ok, but parking is a pain, it's hard to find, and the audience is mostly students forced to go against their will by a theatre professor.
I love Actor's Express. One of the hidden gems of Atlanta. The revitalized West Side is the perfect home for this theater that offers something for everyone. The quality of acting and shows chosen is consistently great. Definitely worth an evening out!
The Color Purple musical was fantastic they can Sang!! And check out the food that a group of us ladies provided so we could mix and mingle with everyone.
Excellent performances from professional actors, producers and directors. Very high production values.
The Color Purple was a joy to experience. The Actor's Express Theatre never disappoints.
Attended Head over Heels last night and Actors Express does not disappoint once again. I did have a little difficulty with the olde English speaking but I understood the gist in parts. Had dinner at Donnetos Italian restaurant around the corner on Brady beforehand. Great too! Peyton was Basilius this night in the play and he did a terrific job.
I went to see Head Over Heels. This was my third time at the theater. The show had a lot of problems... but was enjoyable. One of the things that I found very off-putting, was that the light tech kept blowing his nose really loudly. This is a bit of an intimate space and it was very off-putting to try and watch the show while he kept blowing his nose nearby.
This is a nice little theater that has some interesting productions that often challenge the audience with new thoughts and ideas. Unfortunately, most seats are first-come first-served so be sure and arrive early if sitting close is important to you. They offer beer and wine at the concession stand right before entering as well.
Actor's Express is one of the fines theaters companies in the Atlanta area. They continually do innovate work with a great range. Examples range from well done comedies like "The Importance of Being Earnest'" to deeply moving works like "Angels in America" and a musical version of "Kiss of the Spider Woman". They even nailed "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." I have had seasons tickets for more than a decade and plan to continue to continue for many decades more.
Always brilliant performances. Just the most uncomfortable theater seats in town.
Wonderful experience. The one minute performances flowed smoothly. Bravo!
Current production of Sweeney Todd, one if the greatest of all American musicals, was ambitious and mostly impressive (male voices better than female ones). Kevin Harry's performance as Sweeney is harrowing.
place was amazing, hard to believe the small spaces behind the stage, where they prep and prepare, could deliver so much to the stage, outstanding.
Professional and memorable... Went with a group to see Sheltered... would do it again!
I truly enjoyed the show I saw last February. Was a treat in the heart of Atlanta. I'd definitely go again.
This is a wonderful venue. I loved how intimate the space for a performance. I saw the show "The Color People" and the performance was top notch! The production was as professional as anything that I have seen on Broadway. Being in a venue that allows you to be so close to the action gives you a feeling that you are a part of the play. I was blown away and will definitely return to see other productions in this venue!
We watched Shelter . Great play. And the theatre was cozy.
I saw A Dolls House part 2. It was a small venue and a small cast but overall I was impressed with the show. I had never been before and I was impressed by the quality of show and actors. You do have to pay for parking though their is a flat discounted rate. I loved the whole experience and look forward to returning.
First time and saw Sweeney Todd. Best performance of all performances I've ever seen.
Have seen three versions of Color Purple. This was the best!
Adaptable stage, plenty of paid parking, great theater company.
Went to see the Color Purple and it was amazingly wonderful! The performances and singing was excellent. I would recommend that play to anyone and I look forward to seeing what other wonderful plays they have to offer.
A great coalition of actors!!! Modern look and feel!! Inviting and friendly staff!!
Great small intimate setting. I have enjoyed every performance I have seen.
Attended a conversation with the Artistic Director and Production Manager on "New Play Production Design." Included lunch. Quite enlightening as to the challenges and decisions that have to be made when producing a new play.
Wonderful experience. The one minute performances flowed smoothly. Bravo!
Best acting to be found on stage in Atlanta. Challenging work. Theater with a capital T.
Best season ticket value in town! Consistent excellance. Color Purple was a triumph!
I love how small the theater is here. The atmosphere and staff are awesome
Really enjoy the intimacy of this theater. Not to mention the production is top notch.
4 stars only because parking was confusing but it is Atlanta so I would advise you to check before hand. I saw the show "The Color Purple " and it was fantastic the seats are a lil uncomfortable so I would recommend a travel cushion.
Professional theater company with a very good season of works being offered.
We love Actors Express. I just wish they would get the parking situation fixed. Last time we were there, they ran out of the blue parking cards. They told me I could pay at the machine in the lobby. The machine ate my credit card and I had to call the security guy to come get it out. It was such a hassle.
We went to see Actor's Express Theater's newest production, Downstairs. The set, actors and location were all great and the story and acting were compelling. I enjoyed the intimacy of the venue and how close you can be to the stage. Friendly staff and quick drink service rounded out the experience!
Falsettos is one of my favorite shows and I have spent weeks waiting to be able to see it at your theater. We arrived at 2:10 because parking was not available and were turned away, not even asked to wait until after the next song. I go see BROADWAY shows in New York City, I've shown up 35 minutes late due to MTA delays and I've still been allowed in at the next break. The real kicker is I spent WEEKS promoting this show in the work newsletter I put out, which then gets distributed to our hotel guests. I know several people went on my recommendation, but your box office attendant brushed us off like we showed up halfway through act one. And I was so looking forwards to seeing Head Over Heels during the summer and already had people who wanted to come in from out of town to see it with me, but I'd rather wait and spend my money at a different theater that actually cares about their patrons. 0/10 would rather not see a show than try to go again.
Sometimes their plays could be better, but it is a good theater company
Excellent live theater company. Subscribe or call to make sure of seating availability.
I have been to a number of plays at this theatre and they have always been amazingly well done. The choices of plays are different, this theatre is vibrant and i highly recommend it
This spot always does unique plays with diverse casts.
Outstanding theater. Bellwether in full range productions that are expansive and invigorating.
Any closer to the stage and you'd be in the play. Awesome venue!
Outstanding theater. Bellwether in full range productions that are expansive and invigorating.
We have been members for a few years now. A variety of plays. Some better than others. We enjoy the venue and look forward to the next play and the next season
Watched an AMAZING production of The Color Purple. It felt like we were a part of the show. Super talented cast and production crew to bring an old favorite to a beautiful light.
Actor's Express may need to re- think and develop a strategy to cater to all of the public, not a specific, minor part of the society. As a result they may need to enrich their repertoire.
Great venue and a strong set.of shows for every single season. One of Atlanta's great progress points!
Loved the stage setup and overall a nice experience!
Lucky to have these professionals in Atlanta. They're producing quality, entertaining theater. Go!
A great theatre company that isn't afraid to take risks.
Actor's Express is perhaps the best local theatre company in Atlanta. We have been attending for 12 years and have been season subscribers for the past 7 years. While offering the classics, it is the new, non-traditional and edgy plays that we have come to appreciate the most. This past weekend we saw Fun Home, a Tony award winning musical that pushes the boundaries of the genre. It was wonderful and well done with an outstanding cast. Highly recommended!
Tucked away in West Midtown is this excellent theatre company that never fails to bring edgy and contemporary plays to Atlanta. They often create renditions of classic work with new interpretations, and just as frequently produce brand new works that challenge the minds and expectations of audiences.
Socially forward theater. Incredible acting, phenomenal sets, every show is completely different and will challenge how you think about the world and how to relate to others and ourselves.
Quality local theatre that takes on challenging productions on a variety of topics. Small but comfortable seating. Paid parking
