My 5 year old son started Martial Arts here a few months ago. He is pretty shy, so we didn't think it would stick, but he really wanted to try. The instructors there are phenomenal with children. He loves going, loves them, and they really seem to understand how to work with all personality types. His confidence has been so elevated in his experience at Active.
The lessons they teach the kids each class are great and will benefit them for the rest of their lives. I have seen them with my son and other kids give individual attention when needed (like being shy with new instructors). Every time I am there, I am so impressed by the operation.
I have never written a review before, but felt guilty for not with Active Martial Arts. When people like Ms. Troutmen (sp? sorry) and Mr. Olsen do something so well, it should be recognized. Without a doubt, some of the best money I've ever spent on the well being of my child. My two younger ones will join sooner than later!

Active Martial Arts have fantastic instructors/ mentors who know what they're doing. I started attending AMA in the beginning of April and have felt like I've grown in skill and knowledge of Muay Thai and Taekwondo. Ms. Trautmann and Mr. Olson cater to every member at AMA no matter where they fall of the spectrum of skill and knowledge. On top of the instructors being great, the people that attend here are amongst the most cheerful and upbeat bunch of individuals you'll ever meet. My only concern with AMA is the current location because of the difficulty with the traffic turning into the establishment. On the plus side AMA is only a couple minutes away.

My 2 boys (3 and 5 years old) started going to Active about 4 months and I can not say enough good things about this place. The boys love it and are always excited to go and the instructor is absolutely amazing with kids. They have learned respect, discipline and how to listen to directions. It 's a great way for them to get some much needed focused energy out! Take the trial and you won't be disappointed.

My daughter Avrie has been taking martial arts since November this year. We have been very happy that she has found a place she wants to go. The staff and teachers are all encouraging, patient, and knowledgeable. We have been very pleased with the lessons and values they are helping us to instill in our daughter.

We were new to the area and was looking for a martial art school. My son had been learning karate for a year at our old place and he absolutely love his teacher and classes there, so finding one that could compare to his high standard was not easy. We tried other martial arts classes in the area before we came to Active Martial Arts, and we are so happy that we chose this place. My son is thriving well in the class and he always has something to show me after class.

My chiropractor agreed that martial arts would be a good rehabilitation program after a back injury I was working through. Walking through the door was intimidating, but the staff and students are kind, helpful, and make a person feel welcome and comfortable. The martial arts program effectively teaches compassion, patience, focus, and respect. The kickboxing class is intense and a great workout!

Active Martial Arts is a wonderful place. I have been taking my son since he was four years old. In addition to martial arts they also teach him other life skills. He now knows how to properly introduce himself; talk loud and clear, hand out and looking straight in the eye. What to do if a stranger grabs him; lock his legs, scream for help, bite. He also shows more respect towards others, demonstrates first time obedience and has better listening skills. All this and so much more is thanks to Active Martial Arts, and the best part is he loves going to class!

My 11 year old son has been with the Mill Creek Active Martial Arts School for about 9 months now and absolutely loves it. He is autistic and has never been able to work well in most team sports, but martial arts have been great for him. His school teachers have commented on the huge improvements in the classroom since joining, noting that he has been calmer and more focused. On top of the martial arts training, at the end of each class there is a short discussion on a variety of topics to help the kids learn things like goal setting, focus techniques, and self-respect. All of the instructors are great and really know how to work with children to keep them focused and motivated.

My son really likes to go to classes at Active Martial Arts, and asks most nights to go (which is why we'll be increasing his membership to unlimited nights versus the two a week we are currently on). He worked really hard to learn his first form, and was really proud of himself after working on it all night when he earned the stripe for doing it correctly. I think the best aspect is that through getting stripes and moving up in belts he'll get a boost to his self confidence and self worth, which is one of the main reasons we enrolled him. The classes are also a good physical outlet for him, to burn off excess energy in a positive way. I'd really recommend this place as it seems well run, with supportive people running it.

This is a great place. I've done personal training with the current owner, Jeff, for a couple years now. I've watched him and his son assume ownership of this business and really come into their own. Dozens of families come through, all very nice people who all enjoy the community that's been created. Jeff is a hard worker, a great motivator, and a great coach. Very family-oriented establishment. I highly recommend.

I have three children that attend Active and I cannot recommend this place enough! It's about more than just teaching self-defense (but that is awesome!) they stress the importance of discipline, respect and self confidence. They have created a wonderful community family that we are proud to be a part of.

Our family has been involved at Active for the past 4 years. Over that time it has changed ownership several times. Love the changes that have happened since the Kyles bought the dojo. Mr. Cameron Kyle and Mr. Jeff Kyle run a tight ship. Kids are taught respect, self control, discipline, etc., but also have a lot of fun. Highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to learn martial arts, cultivate discipline and build leadership skills.

Topnotch! My son has been going to Active for 4 months now and he is loving it! I recently started their adult beginner striking class and I'm glad I did. Their instructor's are very helpful and understanding of your abilities. I have no doubt I will be in better shape and pretty good at Tai Kwon Do in no time. Nice facility also!

We love this place!
My daughter just started Martial Arts a month or so ago.
Before she started at Active she tried another place. She REALLY did not like it at all!
From the first night she tried Active, she loved it!
She has so much fun., has learned so much about self defense, respect and focus.
If she could , she would come every day! The instructors are fun, but expect respect and really do a great job with the kids. Love, love , love this place.

My son has been taking Martial Arts at Active Mart...

My son has been taking Martial Arts at Active Martial Arts Mill Creek for about a year now and having an amazing time. Tonight was my first time taking the Adult class and I got to really understand what Ben has been going though for the last year. It was structured, there was a lot of "Yes Sir" and "Yes Ma'am" and respect. Being my first class I didn't get to spar yet, but I did get to do a lot of leg work and chase people around the mat. Which I must say was a lot more fun then I expected.

Another thing to call out: there was part of me that expected it to be like the kids classes that my son takes. There is a nice warm up, you practice and spar, then you get to play a fun game and it's all in 45 minutes. The Adult class, was stretch, warm up by running and doing leg drills, stretch some more, (REALLY Stretch). Then Practice your form and do drills, and not easy chase your partner around drills, but got the heart pumping (190 BPM Peak, 144 Avg..) and wear out your legs drills. I burned about 1300 calories and got a solid workout. I'm 43 and not exactly in shape, so I was expecting it to be hard, but what I did not expect was how fun it was, and how much it helped me really understand why my son likes it.

Looking forward to going back and having more fun, and family building time with my son!

Active Martial Arts has been a great experience for my son Ben. He's learning more than just the martial arts aspect, as this is helping him be more focused, respectful, attentive and patient.

He still has some issues occasionally due to his emotions or ADHD but Ms. Trautman or one of her student instructors/assistants always help him focus and get back on track.

In all honesty, we weren't too sure how Ben was going to like martial arts, so we started him on a trial program. Luckily, he loved it and almost a year and a half later he still loves it.

Seeing his smile when he accomplishes something that has been difficult to learn or when he earns another stripe is an amazing thing, and his sense of accomplishment makes him want to continue. :)

We have been very pleased with Active Martial Arts. My daughter really enjoys the classes. She is learning respect and control. The kids are busy and working the whole 45 min. No time to goof off. Every parent I talk to is very pleased with Active Martial Arts. It has been a great transition from Figure Skating for my daughter. She is challenged and motivated.

We love Active Martial Arts! I signed up my son in hopes that he'd gain more confidence and to assert himself more. It's been great watching him grow in these areas and my expectations have more than been met. My son is always excited to attend his martial arts classes and he asks to practice the skills at home. Ms. Trautmann is an amazing instructor who makes the classes fun while holding high expectations.

My daughter has been with AMA since she was 7. She is now almost 11. This was just as Mr. Jeff Kyle and Mr. Cameron Kyle took ownership.

I cannot speak highly enough of these two gentlemen. They are fantastic working with kids of all ages. They are patient while they teach. Never once making a student feel bad for how they are doing. They take the time to talk to students (and parents) if there are problems or concerns whether it be about martial arts, school or home.

They not only teach martial arts. They also stress confidence, respect, self esteem and so much more.

They have truly built a feeling of community and family. We have potlucks after graduation celebrations and a picnic in the park in the summer.

I will continue taking my student to AMA

Jeff and Cameron are amazing people overall. We have been taking our kids to their program for a year now and absolutely love it. We are more impressed with the values they want to install in our children. They want to see our kids grow into responsible, well rounded honoring young adults. You just don't get that anywhere!! The kids absolutely love it, and we will be going to Active Martial Arts for many years ahead!

I started my 7 year old daughter in Active Martial Arts in Mill Creek on November 2014. We found their flyer in a restaurant and it looked pretty interesting, especially since it also gave a free uniform with the free, trial class. We were already planning to try a martial arts class a week before and it was like a sign that we see a flyer for the class we wanted in our area! We took her and her best friend along and they immediately liked the class. There is an excellent amount of kids to the teachers, every child gets enough attention, making sure they learn their forms correctly. The teachers are ALWAYS upbeat and ready to teach the children. They are able to garner respect and attention the moment the kids step on the mat. We did a trial class at another studio 2 days before Active Martial Arts in Mill Creek and the difference was stupendous. This class was very professional, coordinated, proficient, fun, exciting, and full of learning skills that my child and her best friend will be able to use in their lifetime. Be it discipline, self-defense, social skills, paying attention, giving respect, and many more other techniques that are practical for anyone in life. Thank you Active Martial Arts teachers for giving my child something to look forward to each week and for something that makes me feel safe knowing she is learning techniques that will stay with her all her life and help her out if/when needed.

Active Martial Arts has been wonderful for both of my children. It is a positive environment for them in which they have have goals and accomplishments that they look forward too. The teachers here have brought focus for my 7 year old daughter and confidence for my 8 year old son. The fitness aspect is wonderful, the respect aspect is even better, and weekly the kids learn about life lessons in class. The kids touch on topics including respect, responsibility, strangers, bullying, healthy eating, and drinking water to name a few. The kids have lots of little steps and accomplishments they gain weekly so they always leave feeling accomplished and confident. I would recommend this program to anyone with children of any age.

I have to enter my email just to get ANY information? Yea right. I just want to know what kinds of classes are offered and when. How much is a membership? Why not put that vital information on your site? I don't want to sign up for a trial class, I don't want the extra spam in my email, and I don't appreciate that I have to work to get basic information.

Edit: after leaving my review, I was thinking I should change my review and give them a call for the information I wanted. Unfortunately, the owner saw fit to fire back in a condescending and rude manner (and still not providing any actual information), solidifying my one star review.

I still think relevant information should be on your website. He mentioned I could facebook, text, call, or email him, but none of that information is available either except phone (which is likely a land line).

I'll admit my review was hasty, but now you've earned it.

AMC is an amazing program for all ages. My 8 y/o son was not interested in any martial arts till he tried AMA. From then on he is so eager to attend the lessons with super energetic and well versed instructors Mr.Olson and Ms.Trautman . It is so impressive of how they build up students in all aspects physically, mentally and socially with strong integrity. They incorporate so much fun activities, exciting games with positive interactions rather than competition . I highly recommend AMA to everyone.

When describing why we chose Active Martial Arts Mill Creek, I prefer to use the Three Bears analogy. My son, Rafael, has a unique personality that made it a challenge to find the right school. Some were great, but way too strict, others too lax in their discipline. When we observed our first class, something connected for Rafael and he felt it would be just right. Having studied martial arts for many years, I couldn't agree more. Ms. Trautmann and her team combine a great mix of workout, instruction, and fun. I've seen a very positive change in Rafael's focus and he glowed with pride when he received a 10/10 on his first belt test. The costs are reasonable compared to other schools on the area. I encourage anyone looking for a martial arts school for their high-energy child or themselves to sit in on a class.

I am so impressed and so grateful for the instructions my son Grayson has been given as he achieves his belts here. The family like close feeling like atmosphere is so welcoming and such an integral part of why we love this place. Mister Kyle is very approachable to both the students and the parents. He also has a firm grasp on the need to convey and impart the values you would expect in a well structured and open environment.
