Great little bistro with reasonable food, good see gion of drinks, quite a bit of space /tables. Food is pretty good at gastro pub sort of prices, service is friendly and attentive - we've been back two or three times now.

The food, drinks and service here is always great. Prices are slightly on the dear side, but well worth it. We booked this place for a birthday meal and have also dined as a couple throughout the year. We love the rear courtyard during the summer. The food and wine has always been delicious - look out for the specials menu too.

All ways a pleasure to visit the Abar. Although a tad expensive I keep going back. The young staff serving the excellent food are friendly and genuinely interested in you having a great evening out. I recommend the burgers and Mermaid gin.

Fantastic food. Staff were really lovely and helpful and made a big effort. Everything we had was spectacular and the wine was perfect. Recommend the Primotivo and the pork belly. Also, keep and eye out for the fish and chips. Local and delicious.

Friendly local bar in Old Portsmouth. Good bar & restaurant food. Seasonal outside seating and patio area. Fresh fish & seafood supplier on the camber and Gunwharf outlet shopping nearby. Recommended

This is second time I have eaten there in last three weeks. First time waiting staff didn t know basics of what soup of the day. Today was worse the room had two tables only with customers. Ordered drinks we waited and waited I needed to ask they forgot to press order to bar. Then we had to ask for desert menu twice and then the Normandy Creme was not that but a fluffy cream. Very disappointing

We won't be going back. Such a let down for what was meant to be a happy family occasion. The waiting staff don't appear to communicate with the bar or the kitchen staff and the result is shoddy service, very late over cooked food and a bottle of wine on our bill that we didn't order. It was a quiet Sunday evening and it wasn't busy, we were a small group of just three. How did they get it so wrong? After waiting 45 minutes for our fish and chips we asked how long it would be...the waitress gave the impression it was our fault the food was late! 'It's just going into the fryer now' they said! 15 minutes later it appeared and had obviously been over fried - many of the chips burnt and inedible and the fish was dry. There are much better venues in Old Portsmouth, avoid this one!

Hidden gem! We popped in for a cup of tea but ended up having the whitebait and chips. Absolutely lovely, wonderful staff and very knowledgeable about allergens as I have coeliac disease! Thanks for a lovely experience!

A useful neighbourhood bistro with changing menus and a cheerful staff. It is my local restaurant and I have dined with confidence on many occasions with family and friends. Apart from one glitch, which was attended to so slowly that I missed my main, the service is usually friendly and attentive. A good wine list with a modest mark up. ( Also sells its wines at an attached wine shop) Good value for money compared with commercial catering as found in nearby Gunwarf Quays.
