Hello Men, I am the mother of a daughter that has Sickle Cell disease. She attends SIUE, pursuing a career in the medical field. As a sickler, life is very rough for her.. She repeated the 3rd grade because she missed practically the whole school year due to being hospitalized. She graduated from high school 6 months after her class due to being hospitalized. She has missed a lot of things that a normal kid does because of her Sickle Cell. She cries dang near all the time due to pain but she pushes on! She is a true fighter and she keeps going and going. She says Sickle Cell is not who she is but what she has.. Through the years I ve tried to better myself so that I could help her but as a single mom with a kid that has Sickle Cell is hard because she was always sick. As a mother this is killing me because we have a dilemma and there is nothing I can do. She needs 1500 dollars to go back to school in January and I can t help her. Right now I am robbing Paul to pay Peter just to keep a roof over my head and I can t come up with the money. Are there any organizations or foundations out there that can help me keep my daughter in school. A mind is a terrible thing to waste. I m afraid that if we don t figure out how to come up with the money, she s going to go into deep depression, make herself go into a pain crisis and just give up. She so enjoys school, and will go to class with a fever of 101, just so she doesn t miss any lessons. She studies hard, a great student with a high GPA. Can anyone point me in the direction of foundations that can help our situation?
