Jacob Wells Review of Exempla St. Josephs

I went to the emergency room yesterday for an issue I was having with my throat. They quickly diagnosed it as a potentially life-threatening inflammation of a part of my throat after having a CT scan. The physician assistant and most of the nurses were fantastic. I was on meds and back home after only a few hours. Now I'm feeling better and able to swallow without pain for the first time in several days... Not to mention that last night was the first night of more than a couple of hours sleep in over a week.
Only hiccup was the initial nurse who hopefully was just learning his job. He was a bit of what I would describe as a bro-man. I think he saw throat pain on my chart and immediately went to what most people currently have (which I also have on top of the other issue) which was a respiratory virus. When I describe my situation and the issues that I was having in my throat which were clearly not a normal sore throat, he completely ignored everything that I said. He was also not prepared with any of the usual equipment that he needed and after asking me questions left me three times mid-sentence while I was responding to his questions to go get other things that he'd forgotten. When he passed on information to the physician assistant he told the physician assistant that I had a simple sore throat. After I explained the same symptoms to the physician assistant I heard him later talking to that nurse saying it was not a simple sore throat and that I would be getting a CT scan to figure out the issue. No need for lower rating since everyone has to learn their job at some time, and the correct diagnosis was quickly made.
Thank goodness for good doctors and a good facility. If it had not been diagnosed quickly, I potentially could have died (or ended up with a tracheotomy at minimum). Thank you St Joseph!
