Truly amazing architecture. Impressive. Until getting up close or in usage. Mildew in bathrooms, cracks in walls. Huge lines at each check point, complete lack of signage throughout. This is not an airport friendly to almost anyone, but it looks nearly impossible to navigate by anyone with mobility issues. Even the ultra high output sodium lamps densely placed throughout could burn a hole in anyone s retina...and yet an amazing number of people are able to take up 3-4 seats with luggage and additional seats for sleeping.

Truly awful service, amenities and planning. Not just rude, but flat out aggressive attitudes throughout. From the checkpoints, information desk, lounges, transfer desks and even at the departure gates.

They removed a battery bank from our hand luggage and demanded to know the capacity (international laws govern the capacity and output). This was a rather small one, and had the information in English on the bottom. They refused to accept what it said and confiscated it. When asked about the specific violations, or the maximum capacity of battery banks, the guards not only started yelling at us, but started to dig through our bags more thoroughly.

One star because it is just a huge amazing piece of construction. And a snarky bonus star because we had to walk an extra 5km total during our transit to other plane. Working off the awful food from our previous China Eastern flight was appreciated.

The cost savings was entirely off set by the frustration, anger and awful experience. This is one of the few airports that I will go out of my way to avoid (the others being Addis Ababa & Dhaka)

There are som many other airports in the region that are both amazing architecture AND well planned and great service...that unless you are forced to go here...skip it. I am.
