Terrible, terrible experience. I was admitted for 65 hours before being put into a room. Prior to that, I was kept in the hallway or in the post-surgery recovery room with 10+ other patients. Of those two, it was better in the hallway.
The nursing staff was unresponsive and seemed annoyed by patients requests. Not only did they not answer the phone, we could all hear them complaining about (1) the phone was ringing and (2) they had to answer it. I often had to tell them when I was due for my medication; they didn t routinely come and check on me; and I finally had my husband get water from elsewhere because I couldn t even get them to fill my glass. Even after I went to a room, I would routinely go hours without being checked on, and they forgot my breakfast one morning. At one point, it took 2.5 hours to get my pain meds after hitting the call button. I was there for four days because two doctors couldn t agree on a course of action, but they also weren t talking to each other about it. Instead, I had to relay their opinions to the other. Once, when my husband came back after briefly leaving, he had to walk someone from the front desk to my bed because the people in the front didn t know how to get there (and nobody in the back would answer the phone).
We watched a lot of patients get ignored and family members get frustrated from not getting answers (one person just left after a two night stay because it was so miserable there).
This was easily my worst hospital experience ever. We were here visiting when I was caught off guard by an emergency. After day 2, I just wanted someone to assure me that I could be ok for a few hours so I could fly home to our home hospital. Getting out of this place became a bigger priority than being comfortable because it was impossible to be comfortable here. In the future, unless we re dying, we ll go somewhere else for medical care.
To top it all off, they lost my shoes. I had to leave in hospital socks (which I also didn t get until my 3rd day there.).
