I have used this hospital & their physicians for 30 years & always made sure they were in network with my insurance when I've had to change plans or companies. Had to go to ER in September of 2018 & wound up having an emergency appendectomy for a ruptured appendix. One month later I found out the surgeon was out of network. I contacted my insurance company (individual off market plan) & was told they would process the claim as in network since it was an emergency. The insurance paid the surgeon but he is still billing me for the balance of the bill & refusing to take the provider adjustments.When I contacted the office & told them I was not given an option for surgeons & told I had to use the on call surgeon so therefore I could not find an in network surgeon. She told me they were "entirely within our right" to balance bill since they were not under contract with my insurance. I feel like the hospital should not allow physicians to take emergency call if they are not going to accept the same insurances the hospital does. I am still fighting this as I feel this is wrong & should not be allowed. I called the hospital to file a complaint & was put to a voicemail but never received a call back.
