Stephen A Edwards Review of The Mountain

We have now been on two treks (one short, one much longer) in Nepal with The Mountain Company and hope to go on at least one more, whenever people start travelling again. Roland was extraordinarily helpful in answering questions before we first went to Nepal. By chance, he was in the same area when we arrived and was able to give us even more guidance. The entire operation was extremely well organized and professional. We never had any of the concerns about equipment or supplies that we saw with some of the other companies -- Western or local -- that we passed on our way. The longer of our treks was led by a Western guide, which made us even more confident that we would have the support we needed. The local guides and support personnel were also uniformly excellent. I would hesitate to use any other company on a Himalayan trek.
One item that doesn't seem to appear on the website but that may be worth mentioning for those of us who are over 65: Roland is now requiring a doctor's letter attesting that we are in condition for the trek (at least on the strenuous treks). Getting the letter may be a little bit of hassle and may require some lead time, so you should factor that in.
