Very nice caring facility. It is apparent that Martin County considers this shelter to be important. The funding and planning is well thought out. There is need for funding and improvement in the Fort Pierce facility. With the population increase in the area, which translates to tax revenue, money should be appropriated to shelters and improving adoption programs that are effective. With the economic destruction of the previous "administration" in DC, most of the funding was gutted for animal programs, people losing their jobs and livelihood was rampant, which translated to people/pet owners dumping their animals/cats/dogs/bunnies/horses and other pets at record numbers. I have volunteered helping at shelters/wildlife rescues/entertainment parks for decades. You learn a lot working behind closed doors and what the true state of things are really in regardless of the news which is usually all negative or positive leaving out the truth of in between and what is going on. You meet the wonderful people that work there as workers or volunteers that give tirelessly who give love and care like water from a faucet. You also meet people in life that wouldn't give a dollar at fund raisers or donations that have a thousand excuses why but will spend $6 dollars for cigarrets or $15 dollars for a six pack of beer or $7 dollars for a Latte with whip cream at a local coffee shop. Life is filled with many contrasts. We sacrifice animals and human babies to sell their body parts with mostly no guilt when all the animals or babies ask for is love and a little care and yet they give more than any amount of money can buy. You have a to wonder where we are headed as a society and what real values remain. God put all these creatures here and I have gone vegan after seeing decades of what factory farming does to these animals. And now we are putting into law the wholesale harvesting of human body parts from babies. Why aren't the names of and the people that work in these organizations posted on line so that people can see who these creeps are that exploit the animals and children? They are all the same to me, complete with feelings/brains/hearts/personalities and a life meant to be free from torture/pain and exploitation by greedy, selfish, profit oriented people and industries with no regard for the animals or people they punish. Help an animal or child and feel the reward from that. Money can't buy it. It is pure love.
