I am sorry to read that this zoo is still keeping some of it's animal's in poor living conditions for the species. Years ago - 2000 or a bit earlier, I visited this zoo as a volunteer for the Great Ape Project. I was dismayed to see two chimpanzees being housed in a concrete "jail" with no grass, no room to run and play....just horrible conditions. I was told that the male had been kept like this for over 20 years and "that he didn't know any better, so it doesn't bother him." I was also told that the zoo was building a new home for the chimps and soon Jingles and Bongo would be moved there. I visited the next year and saw the new chimp habitat which was a great improvement. However, only Jingles was there with another new chimp; no sign of Bongo. When I inquired about where he was I was told that he "couldn't handle" the move (he went insane) and they had to move him elsewhere. Nobody would tell me what happened to him. R.I.P, Bongo, as it is likely you were euthanized. Shame on this zoo for treating it's animals so poorly just to make a profit. :(
