The Latin American School of Medicine, also called...

The Latin American School of Medicine, also called Project ELAM, for its acronym in Spanish or LASM (Latin American School of Medicine) for its acronym in English, was founded on November 15, 1999, by Fidel Castro, who created it as a space of professional medical training exclusively for foreigners, as a result of the limited medical personnel with whom humanitarian aid was provided after the natural catastrophe in Haiti.
In 2019, in commemoration of its 20th anniversary, it was accredited for the second time with the recognition of excellence, the maximum merit granted to professional education institutions, by the Cuban Ministry of Health.
Currently, it is listed as an International University, is part of the Integral Health Program of Cuba and has the strictest Quality standards.
