Valerie Mingione Review of 2011 RiverDrive Surgery Center

It is a shame that one person can have a negative impact on the entire facility. I thought the facility was terrific and all the staff but one: Dr. Jackus, the anesthesiologist for my second eye surgery. My first eye surgery I had another anesthesiologist who administered the right amount of anesthesia that made the entire event easy and I was completely comfortable.
My second eye surgery 2 weeks later, I had Dr. Jackus as the anesthesiologist. I told her that I needed more but she said that should be fine. Well it was not. I was totally aware of the pain and what the Dr. was doing: I felt and saw the metal object to open my eye go in, I felt the object the Dr. used to extract the cataract go into my eye and put in the cataract (it was very painful); I heard the Dr. talking but I could not communicate well. When I went home, not only did my eye throb but also my jaw and entire face hurt. I assume I was clenching down and somewhat moving since I was not properly medicated. If I had gotten this anesthesiologist for the first surgery, I would have been more than reluctant to get the next surgery. No one should go through this surgery as uncomfortable that I was due to Dr. Jackus. When I visited my Dr. the next day after the surgery, I talked with 2 other patients and they said the same about their experience the same day I was there and they complained also.
An anesthesiologist is so important for a positive experience for the patient.
I recommend the facility; however, I would avoid or ask for another anesthesiologist if you are assigned to Dr. Jackus. I hope she realizes that she needs to be more in tune with a patient's needs during a surgery.
