Overall it is a city that is very used to the "it is what it is" or "it is always been this way". If you look far into the future, this city is not likely to grow at the rate of the world. It had its moments in the past now it is just fine with status quo. Collectively this city is fairly conservative. It would not be as inclusive as you would expect a Canadian city to be. The population in this city is aging fast, despite the inflow in recent years due to its cheap housing market.
This city has suffered from one after another failed politician/mayor. It has not had much luck with its city managers and leaders. It has not had leaders with true visions or even an updated world view. It feels that the city is managed by people that would say "I grew up in Ingersoll/Chatham and drove to the United States with my parents once when I was 17. I have heard of Japan or China, but I think they are fishing countries close to Vietnam that are of the same size" or "Chicken balls and burritos are my favorite exotic food item".
It is quiet, and reasonably clean. The crime rate has not gone up too much and it is generally safe.
If you are expecting a reasonable economic growth (without considering the inflow of cheap house buyers), you are not going to find much here.
