We stayed with Outer Banks Blue in Nags Head in early June. I was very comforted by the additional cleaning measures they claimed to be using in light of Covid 19. That is, until we arrived at the house. We arrived at the house ten minutes before check in time and I simply called to ask if we could have access to the house ten minutes early.... had they said no, either the policy says 4 or it hasn t been cleaned yet, I would have been perfectly fine. However, the woman I spoke to on the phone gave me a code to access the house. I guess I assumed they wouldn t give me access if it hadn t been cleaned yet considering we are amidst a global pandemic. However, we were allowed in with my elderly mother and two very young children. I told the woman on the phone it had not been cleaned. 15 minutes later, an inspector came to the property and seemed very confused as to why the property hadn t been touched. I spoke to a manager who assured me their cleaning staff were one their way and they would do a thorough job. Well they arrived.... the crew was done in 15 minutes. The main surfaces were cleaned, but the house was filthy. The company claimed they do a deep clean at the beginning of every season, but the curtains were disgusting, two sliding doors didn t work, one didn t even lock. We wiped the handrails on the stairs with a Clorox wipe and it was filthy. A deck board was falling off. Curtain rods were falling off or not functional in nearly every room. Multiple lamps broken.
I would also like to add, I m not a person who leaves reviews. However, I reviewed the property on VRBO, and Outer Banks Blue came back saying I waked In after the inspector and shouldn t have been given access. Believe me, I wouldn t walk into an unlocked vacation home with my family. I m not that stupid. I was given an access code to the home by a person at the office.
****Also be aware that apparently even in a pandemic, their policy does say you can check in at 4, but the rental may or may not be cleaned as they have until 6pm to have it cleaned. My only suggestion to the company is to change that policy during a global pandemic. Don t allow people into an unsanitized home... I guess I thought that was common sense.
