Jamie Wilhelm Review of The Well-Bred Bakery
Walked in the cafe looking forward to carrot cake ...
Walked in the cafe looking forward to carrot cake after a nice lunch. My lunch was good, the person who served me was pleasant and I tipped her 20%
Then I went up to get a slice of carrot cake and a piece of pie for my mama. Unlike my first server this new server acted so annoyed to do her job that it really put a damper on the entire experience. It's unfortunate -- the reason I am coming to this over priced little bakery is as a special treat ... to pay $20 for a couple of desserts is about the experience as much as it is about the food and her sour attitude just leaves me wishing I had gone to a different cafe. Because of her attitude I didn't tip her.
Nearly every time we come to this location we experience lousy service from some of the most sour annoyed counter staff. It appears systemic at this location. However, the Biltmore location has an awesome staff that seems to understand that treating patrons with courtesy and professionalism is part of what customers are paying for.
When I sat down with my slice of cake, I found a white hair baked into the cake. So I went back up to the counter to show them the problem, and ask for a new piece. Instead of responding with an apology or any sort of professionalism, I got a blank stare, and she asked the guy standing next to her behind the counter to give me a new slice. She didn't actually say a word to me.
He walked down to the cake, put it on a plate, handed it to me and said "there ya go". So ... apparently customers that want hair free food are just a nuisance. Honestly I was stunned how uncaring the staff appears to be about the quality of service or food.
It's darn shame -- the food is usually very good, certainly much better than the service.
