Ain Shams University is the third oldest Egyptian university, founded in July 1950 under the name of Ibrahim Pasha University.
Participated with Cairo University (formerly, Fouad I University) and the University of Alexandria (formerly, Farouk University) in the completion message of the Egyptian universities and to contain the growing demand for higher education, the university is one of the prestigious Arab universities.

After the revolution of 23 July 1952, it was suggested that the names of Egyptian universities have roots and historical landmarks of the country, and on 21 February 1954 the name of the university changed to Heliopolis University, and in the same year, the name of the university was changed to its current name Ain Shams University.
"Ain Shams" is the Arabic translation of the word "Heliopolis" or "On", which was one of the oldest universities in history.
