Usually really enjoy going to the Zoo but it was a disappointing visit this time - maybe the time of year (mid-July)? Not many animals out and about, the Tiger was pacing in his enclosure which is looking tired and run down. Emu was pacing in the bushes of Meet the Neighbours, not interested in any attention - very different behaviour to previous visits. Saw a dead rock pigeon in the ostrich area and it's mate desperately wanting it to be ok Didn't notice any keepers around.
Monkey island/s are overgrown so can't see much going on there. No sheep, chickens or penguins to see at Meet the Locals.
Good experiences - wonderful walk-through aviary with the Kea, amazing to be so close to them. The Twilight, awesome experience watching the Kiwi wandering around.
Really like seeing the smaller monkeys too - tamarins, squirrel monkeys, lemurs, pygmy marmosets and co-habit creatures (agouti, parrots etc). Also nice not having so many visitors there at the same time. No doubt we will visit again.
